1. Blum: “…resenting these surgeries not as vain and superficial but as a route toward glowing self-improvement not as acts of self-loathing but as evidence of self-esteem” (802). 2. Kimmel: “And Atta was the odd man out in his family. His two sisters both became doctors-one a physician and one a university professor.” (654.)

Jealousy plays a big part in human behavior, and how people control their lives. It’s a competitive world nowadays and people get frustrated when others are succeeding around them. This ties into cosmetic surgery and how people want to achieve the same look as their idols around them. They are frustrated and society grants them a prescription to be “better.”

1. Petrocelli: “In stark contrast to the motivations espoused by adolescent, collegiate athletes, or professional steroid users, we found that frustration seems to be a primary motivator for the recreational steroid user” (757.) 2. Kimmel: “In the eyes of such downwardly mobile white men, most white American males collude in their own emasculation” (651.)

In today’s world, masculine is a powerful and “needed” objective for most males. If someone doesn’t have this masculinity, it is frowned upon, because of society’s recognized perception of how people should act. This concept is perceived by most steroid user’s today, and they believe that they weren’t powerful enough for society’s eyes.

1. Kimmel: “It is from such gendered shame that mass murders are made” (655.) 2. Lorber: “Most people, however, voluntarily go along with their society’s prescriptions for those of their gender status because the norms and expectations get built into their sense of worth and identity…” (732)

Reflection

...Reflection: The Leadership Mystique Leadership is strongly depending upon the complexity patter among leader, follower, and situation. Successful leaders often fulfill two roles. Taking on the charismatic role allows leaders to envision, empower, and energize their followers through motivation. In the has hand, there is a fine balance when leader must take an instrumental role and approach as an organization designer, keep control, and reward behavior appropriately. Our goal as a leader is to determine the company’s needs and derive our commitment to that direction. In order to pursue the route, it all starts with a vision. Once defined it take that leader to themselves and all they influence with this vision. The vision is driven by the environment and leader ability to understand how which direction the environment moving in problem solving. Skills Any Leader Should Possess

...What skills any leader should posses. Not only in the work place, the military, or the government, should their be true sense of leadership but also in our households. The boss is the leader in the workplace, the President is the leader in the military, the people are supposed to be the leaders in the government, and moms and dads should be the leaders in a household. People look up the these people not as just humans but as people who will further their career or end it. They see them as people who will save their lives, or save their kids' lives. They see them as people who will mold the world into what we "the people" see best, or like right now to some, make it worse. With this these people are put into leadership roles, and as followers we don't want to see them as shady or not trustworthy. Therefore leaders need to be honest, dependable, and presentable. The people you lead are a reflection of yourself. Therefore you need to hold your morals, such as honesty to a higher level. Put faith into your employees and they will put faith into you and know that they will get an honest answer. This will ensure better profits, and loyal followers. For a business that means greater chance of success. For the government it means loyalty and less riots or government shut downs. For the military it could mean as much as saving a whole companies lives, or having fewer indiscrepencies with soldiers. In the household it could mean the world to a child, and will set the moral standard...

This I Believe

...Some people believe in empathy, some people believe in power, others believe in commitment. I believe in the power of relating. When a leader relates to a follower, they understand what the follower is going through in the particular situation. When this happens it makes everything else go smoothly. And when things go smoothly then everything else falls into place. Having the ability to relate to people gives you a great connection with the people around you, it allows you to connect with them in a way that is like no other. When a person knows that they are not alone in a situation or knows that you have been through it or can (relate) to them then it builds confidence. You are leading them through a situation that is unfamiliar to them, and with relating to the situation you help them through it and give them light in the darkness. In my family my mom and dad would always have the power to relate to what I was going through. They always had a way of relating to what I was going through in life. It didn’t matter if it was a simple thing as in a bad grade on a test or whether my coach got on me at practice, they were always there for my support and understood what I was going through. One person that always knew I could relate to them and help them through situations was my brother. My brother is 3 years younger than me. He has always looked to me for answers. He knows that I have been through it all and he knows that he can come to me as a leader to help him through...

Moving to a Different Country

...Steps to Moving to a new country Mayar Lampkin Everest University Ever wonder what it is like to move to a new country? Well wonder no more I will tell you. Moving to a new country can be fun and exciting adventure but it takes a lot of work and planning. Before you go and experience the new culture make sure you do research on the country. Another is to make sure you have the right paper work and documentation. The last step is to make sure you pack up essentials. It sounds like a lot and hard work but in the end it is all worth it. Doing research about the country you will live in is very important because you will be informed about the cultures and customs of the country. Also researching what cities are safe to live in and what cities are dangerous is good way of keeping yourself safe and out of trouble. Make sure to research living situations is it mostly apartment/condo living or is it houses? Knowing that information is good for when you are packing because you will know how much space you will have. A good way of research is finding a group on a social media website and asking them questions about the country and living situations. This step will be the most important step out of all three. Having the right paperwork and documentation is very important or you can get in serious trouble and or road blocks along the way. Making sure you know what you need is important. Paper

...20 September 2011 Topic Proposal The topic that I am using from the Affluenza book is Stuff Wars at the Airport on page 35. The angle that I am approaching this topic is from an airport employee stance. I worked at an international airport in several different capacities and think it provides a unique perspective. My guiding questions will be the basic such as: * What is the topic? * Why has this topic been chosen? * What is the focus of the topic? * How is the perspective and understanding conveyed to the reader? The concerns for this topic are the type of information that can be found other than personal experiences but believe that resources can be found in several areas on the internet, online databases, and library. Deciding on how specific is another concern, but believe that staying within the confines of the stuff wars specifically at the airport will keep the topic within the boundaries of the project. It is difficult to determine the time frame it will take to research the topic. It will take approximately two weeks to come up with an appropriate thesis and outline for the project. It could take two weeks to focus the topic on specific questions to ask but as soon as that is complete, it is easy to make a list of factual and interpretive questions for the reader to understand the research. After all has been completed, the research has a good foundation and is ready to start. To complete the essay will take one week to compile, rewrite, and finish...

Costs of Goods Sold

...of the inventory. When everything is said and done it equals out to the cost of the goods that have been sold. Cost of goods sold is the accumulated total of all the costs used to create a product or service in this case it is which has been sold. All of these costs fall into a general sub category of direct labor as well as the materials, and overhead stock. The cost of goods sold is considered to be a part of the labor and payroll taxes. So when things come in the stuff that is older should move forward and the new stuff should go in back. I believe that when it comes down to it the way we handle the sales of the products then the company should not have a problem with keeping track of the funds coming in and going out. Below I have added the example of how it should work. I have done two different...

...living situation and her background. When he was done talking with the client, we started the paperwork. I started asking the questions on the forms, my supervisor would step in to explain something or ask more questions. After the initial paperwork was filled out we had to go over forms that the client had to sign. Although I was able to remember some of the stuff on the forms, I was unable to remember everything on them, so my supervisor stepped in to better explain the forms. In the end the intake took around an hour to complete. After the intake, my supervisor stated that I did okay, just that I need to work on being able to explain LINK services and what the paperwork states, as well as being more comfortable exploring with questions. During the intake, I felt pressure to be able to explain things properly, which is partially the cause of forgetting things. I also felt that I wasn’t really given that much opportunity to explore some of the questions because my supervisor took over. It was almost as if I was thinking too much into it and was too worried about during the intake properly that mind spaced on some of the stuff that I was supposed to go over. ...against the group happened when I was in college. I worked at clothing store at the local mall. One of the requirements for working there was that you had to wear the clothes that were sold there or clothes similar to them. After working there for a month or so I stumbled upon a few of the girls taking clothes off the shelf and putting them in the back room. I was then told that sometimes the girls there would “borrow the clothes and wear them to work in that day and then put them back on the shelf for customers to buy. I did speak up and tell them I thought it was wrong. They then informed me that even the manager of the store did it. That she would even get merchandise and take it home and keep the tags there and pay for some of the stuff a little bit along. I was in shock. I proceeded by calling the home office and calling the district manager and reporting the issue. A few weeks later the district manager came in the store. I was then fired. All the girls told the district manager that I was causing arguments within the group and I was a trouble maker. I did find out later that the home office did their own investigation in the store and all of the girls even the manager ended up getting fired. Even though I was fired from the job, I felt good about doing the right thing. I could have easily conform to the group for the sake of my job but due to my ethical beliefs I could not do...
