This will aid in the recovery or assistance of the mentally ill who end up in the criminal justice system owing to factors beyond their control. There are a number of legal obstacles that delay treatment for the mentally ill who interact with the Canadian criminal justice system. First of all, mental health laws at the provincial level endorse committal in the event of violent crimes only. The only means for accessing treatment facilities for mentally criminals in Canada is being declared “not criminally responsible on account of mental disorder” (Nicol, Mackay and Dupuis, 2013). Those in the GBSD and SBHS not in favor of keeping the child development program after renovations say that it would be too difficult to find a replacement teacher for the program once the current director, Lorena Dupuis, retires in the next few years. Dupuis not only teaches the preschool class and high school class at the same time, but also is in charge of teaching the foods class and family living. While it is true that finding a replacement with the exact same qualifications could be difficult, that is in no way a solid reason for closing down a successful learning facility to both future and current GBSD students.
