Education and Protection Against Ebola

University of Phoenix

In today’s society we come in contact with many different germs. Germs are everywhere, they’re in on door knobs and countertops to name a few. Germs can be contracted from a person who hands are dirty or a person who is sick. If a person sneeze or cough it’s important for them to cover their mouth and wash their hands to keep from spreading their germs. It’s important to use universal precaution and it’s important to educate yourself on the diseases that are being spread today. Ebola is one of the most talked about viruses that is going around today. It is so very important that everyone uses caution when coming in contact with people and it’s also important to educate yourself on the virus its self. This essay is to persuade everyone that Ebola is a deadly virus and to persuade everyone to educate themselves and lately take precaution to stay clear of this virus and other viruses that are around.
The United States has many viruses going around that can be passes from one person to another. Some viruses are curable and some are not. The HIV virus is a virus that has been around for many many years. This disease is passed through body fluids, sharing needles, unprotected sex with a person who is infected, and child birth to name a few. There is no cure for HIV nor is there a vaccine used to prevent anyone from getting it from an infected person. This is why it is very important to protect yourself from people who are in increased risk groups for HIV or people who are infected with the disease. Some viruses such as the flu virus however does have a vaccine that is available to people during the flu season. I urge everyone who works at a hospital, school, daycare or healthcare facility to get the flu vaccine. Ebola is a deadly virus also known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever. Ebola is usually found in several African Countries. Just recently Ebola has made its way to the United States this is why it is imperative that everyone educate themselves on this virus and understand what effects the virus can have on their life. Educating you self and using universal precaution. Some ways to educate yourself would be to watch the local news to see what’s going on in your area and watch the world news such as CNN. There are other ways to stay educated and informed as well. There is the World Wide Web which allows access too many different websites and can give you valuable information which can be beneficial. One main site I use is www.cnn.com, I also use Twitter and Facebook. These are reliable sources to gain knowledge on what’s going on in the world. Ebola is one of the main topics of conversation today. Ebola is a disease of humans and other mammals caused by an Ebola virus. Symptoms start three days to three weeks after contracting the virus. (Library, 2014). Fever sore throat, muscle pain are the common symptoms. This deadly virus is not like other viruses where you go to the hospital and get treated and maybe get medication to clear things up. This virus requires isolation and there is a very low chance of recovering. There is an estimation of a 50% fatality rate (Fox, 2014). This virus cannot be passed through air. (Library, 2014). However there are people in the United States who has contracted the virus. This is why it is important to limit travel to countries that are infected and it’s important to keep your hands washed and out of your eyes and mouth. This will cut down on germs entering the body. It’s Important to use disinfectant spray to cleanse you work area and your home. Blench is a well know disinfectant so is Lysol. There is no vaccine or treatment and it’s difficult to stop Ebola from spreading, the disease strikes its victims through direct contact with the blood or other fluids from the body of an infected person. (Ebola:Staying Safe against a Killer Disease, 2014). “Wash your hands often. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer – or cleaner -- containing at least 60 percent alcohol. Avoid eating primates, bats, and bush meat or wild meat. Stay away from mines and places where bats and other rodents may live.
If Ebola has been identified directly around you, the C.D.C. and W.H.O. strongly suggest wearing protective clothing. Cover your face and hands. Goggles can help protect the eyes. Try to remove Ebola germs with cleaners that fight infection” (Ebola:Staying Safe against a Killer Disease, 2014)

School Nutrition

...National School Nutrition Program Eboli Knight George McGeehan English Composition 115 May 21, 2015 To be healthy or to not be healthy is the question? Today kids are not always eating a healthy meal and to make up for the loss the national school lunch and school breakfast program was established. I do believe that this is a good idea to keep our kids from being obese and teaching them healthier eating options. The National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs were established to align them with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Most schools are increasing the availability of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat free and low fat fluid milk in school meals; reduce the levels of sodium, saturated fat and trans fat in meals; and meet the nutrition needs of school children within their calorie requirements,” (Federal Register, 2012). Our kids will still be able to enjoy their breakfast and lunch, it’s just a little healthier than what it used to be. To improve lunches and breakfasts, schools are required to offer fruits and vegetables as two separate meal components. Fruit daily at breakfast and lunch, vegetable daily at lunch, including specific vegetable subgroups weekly. A daily meat/ meat alternate at breakfast, fluid milk that is fat free (unflavored and flavored) and low fat (unflavored only). Students are required to select a fruit or a vegetable as part of the reimbursable meal. “The National School Lunch Program supports student nutrition in...
