Narrative

The Amazing Goats
In the land of Bahh, there was a smart goat, named Tom. Tom was different from the other goats in Bahh. Most of the other goats didn’t like to discover, invent, or build, while he did.
One day there was a science-show in Bahh. Tom was so excited, that he called his brother, Mot, to compete with him. Tom was thinking, so he could find an idea for the show.
Finally, Tom came up with the idea to build a teleporter. It took him 5 days to build it. Tom tested it out with a toy car. He first pressed a button that said go. Then out of nowhere, the teleporter began to rattle and shake and the car disappeared.
To did not know where the car went, so there was only one way to find out. Tom called Mot to go in the teleporter with him to discover where it takes them.
Mot came to go in the teleporter. When they pressed the go button, they screamed and found themselves in a very dark place. There where no people or animals it was just silent.
Tom and Mot were scared, but they still had the courage to explore. They walked for about seven miles and they found a city called The Negative Zone.
In the Negative Zone there were robots. Tom and Mot were so scared that they ran. When they ran the robots chased them and caught them. They put them and caught them. They put them in jail for no reason.
Tom and Mot had to figure out a plan to get out of jail. They thought the robots liked the music so much they let Tom and Mot go. When Tom and Mot got home they promised to never build a teleporter again.

What Would You do if You Were Invisible?
When I woke up this morning to check myself in the mirror, I couldn’t see myself. All I could see were the things behind me. I thought I was a vampire, but I looked at my hand and found out I was invisible! I couldn’t see my hand or any other body part!
I ran down stairs to tell my parents, but they couldn’t see me or hear me. I was kind of happy, because it was a school day. When my parents went up to my room to wake me up they were shocked to find out I wasn’t there.
They screamed my name for about 30 seconds, so I wrote a note a note saying I walked to school. My parents calmed down and went to work. When they were gone, I was so excited to go out and scare people.
I walked to the super market and held a doll and scared people with it. The people thought there was a flying doll with a knife trying to hurt them. I took some video games and candy without anyone noticing because they were scared of the doll.
It was 3:00 P.M and my parents would think I’m at home now. Suddenly I turned visible again. I was a bit sad because being invisible was fun. On the bright side I still got to play my new video games that I took from the store and watched myself on the news, saying Flying Doll Haunts Super Market.

Descriptive

Noah’s House
When I woke up in the morning I didn’t expect anything. I just walked in my small blue room and went into my big bathroom. I looked in the foggy mirror and noticed dry green tears in my brown eyes. I took it off and brushed my yellow teeth. After I brushed my teeth it looked white and sparkly.
Then all of the sudden, my mom told me I was going to Noah’s black ugly house. I was not excited. I waited about 1 long hour. During that time I was staring at my boring old clock. It seemed so long that I stared at my cute black dog.
After an hour Noah’s mom came in her blue car. When I went inside it was filled with dirty socks, melted candy, and sand. It was really awkward driving with Noah’s mom. When we got to his house I walked down the door way and saw a red sign saying beware of dog.
When Noah opened the door he was wearing a white t-shirt that had stains and holes. He also wore saggy jeans that were ripped. He said hi and we played a fun video game called, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare.
Then suddenly the worst thing happened. I sat on an opened face peanut-butter sandwich. I got really mad when I saw the wet brown peanut-butter on my favorite short. Noah started to laugh and spit on me. So I called my mom to pick me up and go home.

Dear Cristiano Ronaldo
Please come to my school and show these kids how to play football. The kids do not know how to do skills such as step over or around the world. It would be really cool to see a professional football player like you at my school.
The first reason why I think you should come is because The kids in my school don’t know how to play soccer like you. Some kids would toe punch and dribble really bad in a weird way.
The second reason why I think you should com is to teach these kids how to do skill. The only way our school can win football matches is if we use skill on our games.
The third reason is because it would be really cool to see a professional football player like you. Usually our school doesn’t bring professional football players like you.
These are the reasons why you should come to my school. You would be so helpful if you teach our shool how to play football. We might be number one because of you.
Yours truly,

Final English Paper

...This year, in my English 1302 class, I have learned writing skills that I will utilize for the rest of my college career. Communication through text is a critical skill of modern day society and should rightfully take place as required curricula. I have grown through my efforts as a writer and my increasingly practical knowledge of essay construction, source integration as well as an understanding of the importance of this course. In my post-diagnostic examination, I received 56 out of 74. This was four questions less than my pre-diagnostic examination in which I received 60 out of 74. I feel I have grown as a writer further than just correcting the last minute grammatical and spelling errors in order to complete my final drafts. Instead, I have also blossomed in the skill of communication through my writing. I have learned the required structure of an essay, and how to construct a literature review as well as a researched argument. I still require practice in some areas of grammatical structure, such as comma splicing, as this was a recurring problem and an area of weakness for me. I have learned that a properly formed essay requires an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion. In the introduction, the thesis should be clear and is normally located at the end of the introduction. I learned the introduction requires an exigency describing why my topic is significant. In the body paragraphs, topic sentences are crucial. They should point back to the thesis and explain...

English 111 Reflection Paper

...Since I never been interested in reading I never really engaged with what I read about. It was not until last semester in my English 111 class that I started enjoying what I read by actually evaluating the text in further detail. Active reading means reading something in further detail by evaluating and analyzing the text in different ways then just re-reading the text. By doing this you establish more support in your assessment. This hands-on-way to read, by highlighting or writing in the margins, is a way to enhance the reader ability to expand their assessment of the text. Active reading also consists of reading, asking questions, and examining the text. This is different from any other reading technics I have used in the past. Active reading...

...Catherine Edwards Ledbetter English 1010 8 September 2015 When I was about 17 years old my friends and I would go to this place we call “The Clift’s”. It had the best and chilliest people I have ever met. Everyone had the best vibes. It was the most peaceful place I’ve ever been. We used to do rebellious things behind the curtain of trees. The best part: The warm beautiful lake that I got to dive into for hours. The Clift’s has always been a place where I felt free. When we would go to the Clift’s my friends and I would all go pile in the hot car and drive around and eventually would come to the conclusion that we should just go to the Clift’s, like we always did. There were always new people to meet, and they all felt the same way I did about my special place. They all had positive vibes and were all pretty cool. The forest was the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. It was bright, green, and deep. As I walked through the forest the trees would touch me, and the branches that had fallen would crack under my feet. One of the reasons why I went there as a teenager was to experience things that I wasn’t able to do in the outside world it felt like. I could smoke as I pleased. Most people just smoked cigarettes and marijuana, some did other drugs but that’s all I really wanted to do. Drinking was always fun, too. It gave me a sense of adventure and made me feel as I could party forever. Drinking and smoking gave me the ability to be hyper and dance, and made me feel...

...Damien Cowger English 3080J 10 April 2013 Something Awful: Would You Tell the Truth? I found “Something Awful” to be a very enjoyable story. This story was about three couples who got together, Mark and Beth, Joe and Sally, and Elaine and Jack and decided to play a little game. The couples were sitting around at Joe and Sally’s house drinking alcohol and passing around joints even though two of the couples had children there. I felt like this added to the story due to the fact it showed their character. It shows that there is still some immaturity amongst them and added to the way they acted later in the story. The game they decided to play was called “Something Awful”; the point of this game was to confess the worst thing you’ve done or the thing you feel worst about and tell the group about it, then at the end they would vote on who they thought did the worst thing. To me this also displays the characters immaturity because I find this to be a juvenile game to play for the age of these people. One thing that stood out to me in Elaine and Jack’s relationship was the way Elaine just held her glass up in the air when she wanted a drink. That would really annoy me if I were Jack. I felt like this showed that Elaine was the more dominant partner in the relationship. I thought that also added to the way Jack was looking at Sally all night due to how he felt about Elaine and her dominating personality. I found Sally to be the most interesting person in this short story. She...

English-Only Debate Paper

...Running head: ENGLISH-ONLY DEBATE PAPER English-Only Debate Paper Anne-Cecile Grundy Grand Canyon University ESL 523N September 26, 2010 Abstract English language learners are a very heterogeneous and complex group of children, with diverse gifts, educational needs, backgrounds, languages, and goals. They are the fastest growing section of the student population in schools and offer challenges and opportunities to the American education. In this study, the writer will explore the arguments of both sides of the English-only issue, which started decades ago and is still very active today. Emphasis will be placed on the comparison and contrast of the positions presented by advocates and opponents of the English-only debate and will be supported with state’ voter-driven initiatives and laws relating to English language learners. English-Only Debate Paper In the eighteen century, education in the United States was provided in different languages: German, Dutch, French or Swedish. After World War I, when German was a proscribed language, the American population started to think about an education solely in English. However, until 1968, the language policies were left to the discretion of the school, church, city, or state. At this time, the federal government dictated how the non-English-speaking students should be taught, and therefore, started a very controversial debate in the public education sector (Porter, 1998). “In September 1995, Representative John T. Doolittle...

...I have had many on my friends ask me about my college classes over the last few months. The main class that they ask me about is English 101. There are many different tips and tricks on how to be successful in an English 101 class. Students should come to a college class with a different mindset than they would if they were in a high school class. To become a well-rounded and successful student in an English 101, students will have to bring a computer, participate in class, and not procrastinate throughout the semester. Students who are in an English 101 class should always bring a computer to class with them. Teachers don’t always tell the students when they should bring their laptop even though the class might use them. The computers are great in class when students are engaging in conversion about something they don’t know, because all they would have to do is Google whatever the topic is about and get information about it. Sometimes when students are posting their assignment on a school based website the attachment doesn’t get...

...English 101 “Dreams Converted to Reality” In “The Symbolic Language of Dreams”, Stephen King speaks in depth about his writing process. King has written over fifty novels and sold over three hundred and fifty thousand copies worldwide. Most of us cringe at the thought of re-living some of our worst nightmares, but that’s not the case for novelist Stephen King. He uses his dreams and nightmares to sculpt his stories to his liking. King believes that dreams are the way our minds translate the nature or solution to our problems, and speaks in depth about this connection with his writing process. In “The Symbolic Language of Dreams”, Stephen King reveals that writing and dreaming are closely correlated, and writers prefer routine to achieve a semi-dreaming state. King uses dreams extensively in his writing process. He believes that dreams have a precognitive effect on the story and uses those experiences to bring the eerie feelings to life in his novels. When he was writing “IT”, King reveals that he came to a halt in writing, and needed to come up with something. He fell asleep and had a very scary nightmare; he awoke terrified and delighted, all at the same time. It would be safe to say that we’ve all had dreams reflecting on a current situation or problem, especially ones that weigh on us the heaviest. We can draw a conclusion to our problems from dreams, which is also what he relates to his readers. King describes the writing process similar to digging...

... PAST TENSE: Of all my bad and nice experiences in highschool, camping is my favorite even though it only happened in the school premises. We had camps when I was 4th year in highschool. My favorite camp is the first when the juniors and we, the seniors, collaborated to have our first camping for our rover scouting. It was a surprised for us that it isn’t only just camping because they implemented strict rules and policies for three days and two nights. One of the rules is to always be on time and always do things quickly. We are assigned to find our groups, but then I and my bestfriend were late in the meeting of the group of our section so we don’t have any other choice but to build another group with the other sections. At first I didn’t expect that it would be successful for our group because we’re not that close. Before the camping, our teacher gave us the list of the things that we should only bring. Our camp started assembling by 4 in the afternoon. We are given tents to build shelter or the place that we will be sleeping in. At that time, we also met the persons that are assigned to give us our tasks from our main commander and also to guide and help us. We are first assigned to elect the leaders for our group, and after that the main leaders was task to go them for further instructions. ...HUMANITY There are many aspects pertaining to literature that cause readers to consider it good literature. Some may analyze the plot, setting, narrative structure, character, mood, or theme. Others may choose to analyze or focus on literary techniques such as imagery, hyperbole, personification, or irony. Though we may choose to focus on any of these facets, as well as many more, the one condition that we all seem to be looking for in literature is connection. We want to be able to relate to the characters in the works we read. We want to read stories that we can comprehend and identify with; stories that allow us to associate ourselves with the characters, see the story through their eyes, put ourselves in their shoes, feel their pain, and celebrate their victory. Good literature fully explores the depths and aspects of humanity through empathy, morality, madness, vulnerability, and pride. The White Troops Had Their Orders, but the Negros Looked Like Men by Gwendolyn Brooks exemplifies empathy through the white troop meeting the black troops, likely slaves, for the first time. The poem starts us off by showing how the white men had been trained to look at the black men. They had been given the formula on how to treat them until their empathy sets in after seeing the black troops for the first time. “But when the Negros came they were perplexed. These Negros looked like men” (Brooks, 2495). In fact, they appreciated the similarities so much, they didn't have the time or frame...

...name for national pride. The Europeans had this great competition for power, scrambling for sections of Africa to gain it. They wanted the rest of the world to see their greatness. Evidence In his lecture at Oxford University on Feb 8, 1870, John Ruskin proclaimed, “Make [England] again a royal throne of kings...seizing every piece of fruitful waste ground she can get her foot on...that their first aim was to...advance the power of England by land and by sea.” He wanted England to be in control and to have power over as much land as they could get their hands (or feet, as he stated it) on. England was prideful and her first target was to increase her power by land and by sea to keep up her reputation. These aspects motivated the English opportunists, who felt that they had the need and right to colonize Africa. Evidence However, England was not the only European country to feel this way. In the book, Does Germany Need Colonies?, Freidrich Fabri wrote that “[Germany] was the Number One trade and sea power. Should the New German Reich wish to prove and maintain its newly won position of power for a long time, it will have to take up the same culture-mission and delay no longer to acknowledge its colonial task anew.” Germany used to possess the most trade and sea power, and if this country wanted to maintain its position of great power for a longer time, it would be better to join the race for control and ownership of these colonies. Reason #2: Cultural Reasons ...
