This English class required me to focus on four different learning outcomes: writing, reading, researching, and reflecting. The writing learning outcome included creating an effective and flexible writing process to evaluate various rhetorical situations. The reading learning outcome included reading complex sources from a variety of Medias to also evaluate rhetorical situations. The researching learning outcome included searching for print and electronic sources and imply their information to ideas and integrate them into the writing projects. The reflecting learning outcome required me to look back at previous works and decide what changes can be made and how future works will be improved. Set in the Erakat household, the series takes the viewer through the life of a typical Middle Eastern family in the form of anecdotes. Erakat assumes roles of multiple family members, which, coming from a theatre background, demonstrates his capability as an actor and establishes his credibility. One could argue the main purpose of this series is to introduce the audience to a standard Middle Eastern family, which is exactly what Erakat aims to do with a satirical angle “(Bjeijeh …show more content…
After all, why do I need to do these things when I have all of this in my head? That is the exact reason I realized how incredibly useful annotated bibliographies are. Not only does it force you to identify credible sources, but it also forces you to write down your thought process in the comments section. There have been many times that I sit down to write an essay and when I find a source, my brain thinks faster than I can write and by the time I actually get to the point when it’s time to add in the explanation, I’m frustrated beyond belief because I can’t remember what I wanted to

English 111 Reflection Paper

...Since I never been interested in reading I never really engaged with what I read about. It was not until last semester in my English 111 class that I started enjoying what I read by actually evaluating the text in further detail. Active reading means reading something in further detail by evaluating and analyzing the text in different ways then just re-reading the text. By doing this you establish more support in your assessment. This hands-on-way to read, by highlighting or writing in the margins, is a way to enhance the reader ability to expand their assessment of the text. Active reading also consists of reading, asking questions, and examining the text. This is different from any other reading technics I have used in the past. Active reading...

Impact Paper

...Impact Paper When I came to the U.S.A from the India. I experienced a lot of difficulty in communicating my point across in English. I joined Managerial communication class to improve my communication skills. Professor taught the different aspects of speaking, writing and presenting things in the most effective manner. After Class, I found myself in a better shape. I have improved my communication skills, and my professor taught us the right way to improve it every day by ourselves. After this class, I am able to speak, write, and present things in a better way. Now I am more confident in getting my point across. Earlier I was afraid before speaking in English. As I used to think if I would speak, I might commit a mistake and this will spoil my reputation. This fear had kept me away from many challenging opportunities. I could not make more and more friends, as I could not speak properly. My life was very dull and depressing. But this class has changed my life by giving me an easy way out to learn and speak. As a part of the curriculum, I had to write few Reflection Papers that improved my writing skills a lot. And in order to write a good reflection paper, I had to read a lot that helped to improve my reading skills as well. And I had to give an individual presentation that was a great learning experience for me. It is not that, I never gave presentation before but this time it was different in experience. I was able to see myself giving presentation, as my professor recorded...

It is impossible to spend sufficient time on the works we will be exploring within the bounds of class-time, so you will be required to spend time reading and writing on your own; this is a practice that will enable you to bring your personal experiences with these works to our discussions in class and participate in an engaged way as part of our community of learning. But our community of learning is broader than the classroom—it also includes the community organizations you will be partnering with for your service-learning. We will be investigating and interrogating a versatile metaphor—cultivation—and how it impacts the cultures and communities in which we live...

Drama

...English through drama for oral skills development Laura Miccoli This paper presents the results of an investigation into the value of using drama in a Brazilian university classroom. Drawing on Di Pietro (1987) and Via (1976) on the advantages of using drama in language learning, from Mezirow (1990) and Schön (1991) on the importance of reflection for promoting meaningful learning, and from Donato and McCormick (1994) and Lukinsky (1990) on the e¤ectiveness of portfolios as a tool to promote reflection, the paper presents a case study of the use of drama in an oral skill class, describing the course structure and classroom procedures. It includes learners’ voices as taken from their portfolios, and evaluates results, presenting setbacks and possible solutions. Finally, it encourages the use of drama and portfolios for transformative and emancipatory learning. Introduction As teachers we are always looking for ways to improve our classes and motivate our students. Yet, teaching conditions may not be as ideal as we would like them to be. Sometimes we get too many students; often they have di¤erent proficiency levels; sometimes both problems arise in the same class. This was my situation: I had to teach a conversation class where the level of proficiency of the 37 students ranged from basic to advanced. Knowing that a traditional format would not work, the experiences of interactionists like Di Pietro (1987) and the actor/teacher Via (1976) helped me decide to bring drama and...

...Reflection Going through the English 102 has taught me so much more than stuff about writing in the discipline. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don't know. Most importantly I have learned how important writing is. In most of my classes I did read, explain, and write papers; however, I quickly found out that there was so much more to it. One specific experience I had was being able to write an effective paragraph. English 102 also taught me how powerful the written word and language can be. It’s either you want to impress or express. Words tell so much. I know that my ability to write and express my ideas, thoughts and knowledge has grown stronger. I have always struggled to put my thoughts on paper in a manner that is coherent and correct according to assignments. I can remember being told numerous times by my teacher, Ms. Dannilyn Macato to "organize your thoughts" or "provide more support and examples". These are the things that I have worked on and improved over this semester and I feel that my work shows this. The papers I wrote when I first started with this subject were bland and short. In these early papers, I would just write about certain things that were not so organized. Writing in the discipline really helped me shed that bad habit and write better papers with better ideas. I have learned how to write various styles of papers in different forms and different fields...

Refelctio on Pracitce

...implications of discrimination in nursing care and examine the importance of anti-discriminatory perspectives in nursing. In this paper, the case study I will elaborate is of an elderly woman who was of a non-British ethnic origin and spoke little English. A junior nurse visited her home to provide care but her attitude towards the patient has been discriminatory and abrupt, a situation that calls for serious reflection on the issues of racial discrimination at the clinical setting. The patient was apparently treated with leg ulcer. The questions that have to be considered here are: Where in the observation did discrimination occur and how this could have affected the delivery of care given? And how has discrimination influenced the lady’s care? The concept of anti-discriminatory practice as a contemporary issue within adult nursing is discussed here considering observational evidence and similar case studies. Reflection in Nursing: Reflective practice in nursing is guided by models of reflection. Reflective practice model serves as a framework within which nursing or other management professions can work. Reflective practice model is also a structural framework or learning model that serves the purposes of a profession and is particularly applicable to health related professions. Any portfolio of practice includes a model of reflection as reflection helps in determining what was positive or negative or a learning experience within the profession. Reflective practice highlights...
