Job Positions/Job Analysis
The 17 billion dollar franchise model company that most know as 7-Eleven is 82 years old, operating over 36,000 convenience stores across the US with a mission to be better. (Undercover Boss-7 Eleven, 2014). This enterprise offers thousands of different job positions that permits the organization to have continued success. Most organizations perform a job analysis to guarantee that the selection procedures they utilize to choose between job applicants are effective but defensible and measure knowledge, skills, abilities and personal characteristics to perform the job requirements (Stewart & Brown, 2011). The 7-Eleven enterprise has several positions that are essential to the customers, like the Night-shift clerk and the Delivery truck driver. These two positions impact the consumer on different levels, unlike the night-shift clerk the delivery driver has little contact with the client. A delivery truck driver and night clerk are entry level positions. The night clerk ensures that all customers are serviced and that merchandise is readily available for purchasing. Delivery truck drivers are responsible for ensuring products are in the store for the client. Customers expect the store to be opened with proper staffing 24-hours a day and have suitable merchandise to meet their needs.
The night shift clerk must have working knowledge of the store technology to complete customer transactions and check inventory. This position requires the ability to maintain a clean, safe and organized environments for customers. A full understanding of inventory tracking, updating and other inventory procedures. The night clerk should have basic knowledge of customer service, cash registers, computers and cooking devices used in convenience stores. A clerk should have skills to quickly adjust in fluctuating settings. The clerk will possess basic selling techniques. This position requires the ability to maintain a professional demeanor and principles of quality customer service.
The delivery store driver must hold a valid commercial driver’s license and have the ability to work a flexible schedule. Store drivers may work alone or as a team and be in good physical condition. Must have the ability to transport and deliver products and merchandise. Must have working knowledge to read and interpret maps and GPS directions. Store driver should process the skills to comprehend a shipping and receiving manifesto. The position requires ensuring that deliveries are timely. Must maintain a professional attitude and standard of service when dealing with challenging situations. The skills to operate material handling tools such as hand truck, pallet jack or forklift, etc. Possess working knowledge of commercial driving regulations and roads in the area.
Method of Collection The process of gathering job analysis information certifies that a business has the most dependable and current material to make legal and imperative occupational decisions about a job. In the job analysis function, observation and questionnaires were used to collect the information needed. The observation method was used for both the Night shift clerk and delivery truck driver analysis because it allowed the HR Specialist to gain immediate understanding and information about the position being analyzed. Job Analysis observation was suited for these two positions because the work behaviors are repetitive, and some degree of movement (Stewart & Brown, 2011). The male night clerk was observed live for eight nights over a 3 month period, so the HR team could get firsthand information and ask questions based on that particular shift and environment. In the live observation of the delivery driver position, two separate delivery drivers were observed five times within a 2 month period. The disadvantages of the observation were considered, such as small sample size and avoiding bias worker performance (Dunleavy, Morris & Howard, 2015). For validity and reliability reasons the HR team passed out questionnaires too. The questionnaires were inexpensive and permitted the ability to reach more workers (Stewart & Brown, 2011). The paper questionnaires were supplied to several stores and warehouses that ask employees to self-report their work practices, work accomplished and time consumed preforming the task. It was not an overwhelming response to the questionnaires but it permitted legitimacy to the observation data collected.
Create a Job Description
The data collected and analyzed in the job analysis process set the foundation for successful completing a job description (Martin, 2010). A well-written job description should give a generous amount of information to the potential applicant, so the individual can make an informed decision. The night clerk is an entry-level, non-exempt position that requires an individual with excellent communication skills, self-motivated, energetic, team player with excellent customer service abilities. The duties and responsibilities include assisting the customers with their purchases, keeping the store clean, stocking, cleaning the store’s cooking supplies, cooking and preparing food and beverages. Since this shift is typically overnight, the clerk will ensure the store is prepared for the next day. A store clerk working evenings or overnight must be available to work flexible shifts including holidays and weekends. The night shift involves standing for long hours, bending and lifting material that can be up to 100lbs. This position but may require high school diploma or equivalent with previous experience working a cash register, grill, and other convenience store machinery. The night clerk will be required to greet all customers with a smile and welcoming attitude. The delivery truck driver will safely deliver products and merchandise to the designed store within the deadlines. A driver should maintain a clean and safe truck. This positions permits the driver to load the merchandise and unload at the store. The applicant must have a valid commercial driver license and high school diploma or equivalent. The delivery truck driver must adhere to all company operating policies and procedures. This position requires that all local and state driving laws and road regulation are followed. The delivery driver position is non-exempt. This driver position involves sitting for long periods, bending and lifting material that can be up to 150lbs. An effective job description can offer important benefits to the HR department and company overall (Fentin, 2014).
Compliance of State and Federal Regulations
Job descriptions can be an essential instrument in the operational and legal administration of a business. The job analysis and descriptions are in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act because they categorize the jobs as “exempt” from overtime or “nonexempt” (Speaker, 2014). The night clerk and delivery truck driver are wage earning positions that can earn overtime. The crucial functions of each positions are listed to ensure the job descriptions do not exclude any qualified candidates. They list job specific details such as lifting over 150lb or possess a valid CDL to avoid violation of American with Disabilities Act or EEOC. In compliance with ADA, an employer must offer equitable accommodations to the acknowledged physical or mental restrictions of eligible candidate with a disability, unless it imposes an excessive hardship (Berman-Gorvine & Nadel, 2014). Job descriptions are legal documents that must be detailed, reviewed often to ensure they meet federal and state regulations (Fentin, 2014).

Summary/Objective
The night shift clerk is responsible for assisting all clients with their purchases, accepting nightly deliveries, restocking all merchandise, and ensuring the store is ready for the next day.

Functions Necessary

1. Assist customers with purchases and questions. 2. Stock shelves and counters with products and merchandise. 3. Fix and refill containers for hot and cold beverages. 4. Utilize cash register for sales transactions 5. Keep the store and all cooking and beverage utensils clean and safe 6. Must be welcoming and customer focused 7. Required to possess excellent communication skills 8. Observe all store rules and company policies and procedures 9. Greet all customers with a prompt and pleasant demeanor
