Introduction. The English language started his first steps very long time ago: about fifth century with first settlements of British Islands. Now it`s the most popular language in the world: most of schools in each country give their pupils the subject, the big companies offer job only to english-speakers, in big cities there are all advertisements with translation to English and so on. Today every language has some word from English and also there some of them that became an international. Today more than 15% of the Earth`s population can speak English, so it`s not hard question from wich language the most popular word came. Of course you know this word, it`s "okay". When somebody asks you about your feelings you may say "i`m OK!", when somebody agree with something you may say "He`s okeys" and there`re a lot of examples more.
How many times per day do we use word "okay"? 5? 10? Or even more? But do we know anything of it except of the meaning (or only one of them)? I made this project to show you how it`s deep, how many faces it has and just to teach you how to use it in a correct way. Also i want to tell you about it`s history or rather histories, because linguists now days don`t know which of them is true. All it started when my teacher had offered me and some of my schoolmates to take participation in contest about English language and after that i found some interesting information about word "okay". It was really informative to me to read some stories about it's formation so I`ve decided to search the Web to learn more: I read some articles about it`s formation, using, grammar and so on. When it became in the big deal, in full project, I asked my schoolmates and friends both russian and foreign. The deal is that not only studying people don`t know about all ways that we can use it but sone of native speakers too. Using Melvyn Bragg`s book called "The Adventure of English Language" and many sites from Inthernet I prepared for you the history of "ok", it`s grammar, pronouncing, the inforamation of using of it and results of interview. The aims of my report are to show you in how many ways we can use the word "okay", how use it correctly, tell you about it`s way "from the thorns to the stars" and find it`s internathinal usage. For that it is required to do following tasks:
· to find respectful sources to learn the ways of it`s using;
· to find the right way to spell and pronounce it;
· to find grammar of it;
· to find the origins of it;
· to ask my mates about it.
· to find the ways of using it in different cultures. The object of study is word "okay". The methods of study are searching information in books and in the Internet. The work consists of introduction, five chapters, conclusion and bibliography. At the introduction it`s proved the choice if the subject; it`s done the purpose and tasks of study and it`s methods. The first chapter is about formation of word that based on stories. The second chapter is about spelling, grammar and pronouncing of the word. The third chapter is about using of the wrod. The fourth chapter is about the international usages. The fifth chapter is about an interview. The conclusion sums up the study. Bibliography includes books and web-sites. This work has the practical importance because it based on the most usablrr word, it can improve you grammar skills and make your pronouncing become better. 1. The formation of the "okay". The Wikipedia and other sources give us more that fourty versions and there are the best of them:
· First Version or "The verison of Old Kinderhook".
This version tells us that the "O. K." is the reduction of Old Kinderhook, New York State, the place where Martin Van Buren was born. Van Buren choose it like his nickname that became an advertising slogan "Old Kinderhood is O.K." to his political compaign.

· Second version "The version of the joke".
The joke by redactors of Boston`s newspaper in 1839 when phrase "oll korrect" (the wrong writing of "all correct") was based on the headline of first page.

· Third Version or "The version of war".
During the war, many years ago, the soldiers used to write on the letters the expression "Zero Killed" in order to say that everything was good. Therefore, they used to abbreviate the sentence with 0K: and then the it became a word to say thet everything was fine.

· Fourth version "The or version of German dialect"
The president of USA Jackson used to write "all correct" using German like "oll korrect" when he sign some administrative decisions.

· Fifth version or "The version of Oklahoma state".
The Oklahoma's settlers are certain that the word Is reduction of there state.

· Sixth version or "The versions of languages".
There are a lot of hypothesis of appearance of "okay" front different languages, there are some of them:
Okeh - from language of Chocto they means "yes"

O Ke - Mandigo's language, means "all right"

Oc - from French, means "yes", "right".
·
Wav Kay - from men of Wolof, means "yes, certainly"

Omnia Correcta - Latin meaning of "all correct"

Och Aye - from Scottish, means "oh, yes"

Oc - made from Latin "hoe", that means "yes"

· Ola Kala - Greek, means "all right"

· Seventh version or "The version of loader's mistake".
When the way of container transport was started, the loader had to sign containers with "all keep" to show that everything is save and sound, but the level of there knowledge was to low so they decided to write the abbreviation of phrase with it's first letters and the made one mistake more - instead of "A.K." there was a "O.K."

· The eighth version or "The version of German rank".
Some of linguists think that "ok" is the reduction of German rank "Oberst Commandant".

· The ninth version or "The version of "okay" rum".
French linguists say that it is the reduction of Haiti's town Aux Cayes, where were made the high-level rum.

· The tenth version or "The version of Read".
The professor of language of Columbia University decided that "ok" was made from name of meat biscuits "Orrin Kendal" that was sending to soldiers of USA during the civil war.

· The eleventh version or "The second version of Read".
Also he has one more hypothesis: it was made by phrase "open key" that was using in telegraphic language.

· The twelfth version or "The version or version of sign".
The American director of railway's buildings signed some documents with his initials "O.C." to show that everything is right.
· The thirteenth version or "The version of knowledge".
In the World War I the was a phrase "order known" that soldiers used to show their commanders that they understand what they have to do.

2.The spelling, grammar and pronouncing. 2.1. Spelling. Okay, OK, and O.K. are all acceptable spellings of the word. OK is more common in edited writing, but okay appears about a third of the time. O.K. is preferred by a few publications, including the New York Times, even though it is not an abbreviation of anything in modern use. Examples
· OK: OK, maybe it’s not there yet. [Wall Street Journal] OK, so what myths are we talking about? [Guardian] It might be OK for a beefy Wallaby to stare down a bunch of powerfully built Kiwis as they launch into a ferocious, blood-curdling haka. [Sydney Morning Herald]

· Okay Okay, okay, I’ll stop right there. [The Star-Ledger] FDA okays Thermo Fisher test to help kidney transplant [Reuters]

· O.K. We’ve done O.K. in the downturn because we started selling online in 2007. [New York Times] 2.2. Grammar. There is no certain way how to write word: "okay" or just "ok" because different sources give different variations. The Oxford English Dictionary, The Marriam-Webster and Ausrtalian Concise Oxford tell that the "ok" is the preferred variation and "okay" is the acceptable form. Oxford Canadian Current English opposite points that "okay" is the primary form and "ok" is the alternative.
According to all of theese sources the acceptable forms are "OK’ing", "OKing", "OK’ed", "OK-ed", "OKed", "OK’d", "okayed", "OK’ing", "okaying", "OK’s", "okays".

2.3. Pronouncing. There are two variants of pronouncing: the British and the American. UK: /ˌəʊˈkeɪ/ USA: /ˌoʊ-/ The difference is not big, just one sound in the begining of the word. So it`s not a big deal how are you pronouncing because everyone will understand you.

3. The using. 3.1. "Okay" like a noun. As a noun "Okay" means agreement, approval or permit and like other nouns can be in plural form. There are some examples:
· Is it okay for John to come with the girlfriend tonight?
· I can’t take decision without my mom’s okay.
· These articales should be provided to all the redactots for their okays.
· He will give his okay soon. 3.2. "Okay" like an adjective. As an adjective, it’s synonymous with acceptable, passable, or good. Something that is OK is positive, but not as positive as it could be. It also works as an interjection used to express agreement or approval. There are some examples:
· Is it okay if I come to school without some books?
· That film wasn`t bad, but it wasn`r good, it was okay. 3.3 "Okay" like a verb. From last paragraph it`s verb sense to agree or approve. There are some examples:
· When will my plot be OK’d by the director?
· My parents okayed our plans for the weekends.
· The redactor is OKing our articales.
· Dad OKs party in my house at weekend. 3.4 Where you can use it. You can use "okay" in sarcastic tone or like an elongating word to somebody who is talking about totally crazy things and/or very stubborn in their view.
· A: "I really saw the army of faires in the forest!"
B: "Em.. Okay.."
· A: "Alex did it! I`m sure!"
B: "Okay.. If you think so.." Also word can be used as an question wich means "Do you understan?" or "How are you?".
· "You can not hold him, okay?"
· "Okay, Nancy?" "Okay" can mean "Stop!" or "Enough!".
· A: "I will be singing till I hear the applause!"
· B: "Okay! Okay! They will give you applouse!" All of spreakers also can use "okay" in their speeches, wich means interjection in the begging of it like call for audience`s attention and signal that speaker is about to start or it can be a section break in any part of it to sign a shift in topic.
· "Okay. And now we are starting!"
· "Okay. The next is the formation of word."

4.The international usage. 4.1. In languages.
· Brazil, Mexico, Peru and other Latin Americam countries: the word sounds totally like in English.
· Arabian counries: the people of Arabian countries use to write their own word with the same meaning that became from the original one and sounds like "ouki".
· Japan: the word there is equivalent to "all right". Okay is often used in colloquial Japanese as a replacement for 大 丈 夫 (daijōbu "all right") or い い (ii "good") and often followed by で す (desu — the copula). Also in Japan, it is spelled Okkei and pronounced as in English with minor stress as OAK then Kei.
· Taiwan: in this languages usages include the aforementioned "OK了" (Okay le), "OK嗎" (Okay ma), meaning "Is it okay?" and "OK啦" (Okay la), yes/no construction, "O 不 OK?" (O bu Okay) "Is it okay or not?."
· French: "okay" is used to communicate agreement, and is generally followed by a French phrase (e.g. OK, d'accord).
· Philipine: In the Philippines "okay lang" is a common expression, literally meaning "just okay" or "just fine."
· Malay: In Malay, it is frequently used with the emphatic suffix "lah": OK-lah.
· Vietnamese: In Vietnamese, it is spelled "Ô kê".
· Indian: In India it is often used after a sentence to mean "did you get it?". 4.2. Gesture. All of us know the OK-gesture, it made of touching of forefinger and thumb while the other three are rasid up. The gesture was popularized in America in 1836 as a symbol to support then Presidential candidate Martin Van Buren. This was because Van Buren's nickname, Old Kinderhook. But similar gestures have different meanings in other cultures. 4.3. In techonologies. · All of those people who worked or works with computer with English language turn on know that "Okay"-button means that you understand what computer showed to your. · Also in the computer it may mean that you give your agreement to do something. · OK is used to label buttons in social networks in modal dialog boxes such as error messages or print dialogs, indicating that the user must press the button to accept the contents of the dialog box and continue. · It always written like OK, rather than O.K., Okay, or Ok. · Mostly all of Android`s devices users know the command "Okay, Google" that activates voice input. · Users of Google Glasses use command "Okay, Glass" that can acticate ane function of it: take a photo, make a note and etc.

5. The interveiw. I ask my schoolmates and freinds some questions:
· How often do you use word "okay" in your everyday speech?
· Do you know anything about it`s history?
· How many meanings does it have in your opinion?
· What is the right variation of writing of it: "ok", "okay" or "O.K."? And there are the results:

The conclution. "Okay" is the most popular word in the world, so it`s really necessary to know it and understand it, not only like an adjective, but like a noun and a verb too; it`s necessary to know it`s spelling as well. Today there is no linguist who knows wich way of formation is true, there are a lot of ways and we can easily explain it: a popular word from far away age can mean anything in past but it is not a big deal, we live in present and certainly know the meaning of it today, and use it. There are three ways to write it and two ways to pronounce and all of them are clear to people, so you can use it anyway. Many cultures has adopted it many years ago and transformed it in their own language as well, so "okay" live not only in English language, word also "occupated" technologies and if you don`t learn language, you know what does it mean. Is not this a real popularity? As we have seen, there are many ways to use the word "okay". I hope that you enjoyed my presentation and found something new for you. I suppose not everyone knew in wich way he or she can use that simple word. Now, when i`m ending, I sure that everyone here have seen many faces of "okay"!

...They tell us when we are little to be brave, to conquer our fears and finally let go of our mother’s hand as we walk into elementary school, to stop checking behind the shower curtain to make sure no one is behind it when we go to the bathroom, and to actually step on the spider crawling on the floor rather than running away while screaming; but what they do not tell us, is that those fears will eventually be replaced with greater ones. It was not until March 30, 2014 that I actually came face-to-face with my greatest fear. I remember the day like it was just yesterday. After spending my last day of Spring Break studying for AP Chemistry, I was finally headed home. My decision to take the fastest route home was something I would later regret. It all happened so fast. One minute I was singing along to my Florida Georgia Line CD, and the next I heard a voice yelling, “help me, help me,” repeatedly. In that moment I felt no pain. I forced my way out of my vehicle. The look in her eyes is something that will stick with me for the rest of my life. My legs started running over to...

My Life to Save

...Prologue I leaned over the toilet for the fourth time this morning spilling whatever was left in my stomach. I dry heaved for the next five minutes trying to rid whatever was giving me this ill feeling. Once I finished I wiped the sweat off my forehead and laid back against my cold tub. It felt good against my warm skin. I removed my sweat drenched shirt and just laid against the tile floor. I have never experience such pain and nausea in my life. I didn’t want to think about the many possibilities that could be wrong with me. "Ki you alright?" asked my eight year old brother behind my bathroom door. "Yes boo just go get me a bottle of water." I could hear him scurrying off down the stairs to the kitchen. I tried my best to stand up but I just felt too weak. All of a sudden my body grew very tired and I couldn’t get my body to move. I heard my door open and a scream. "Mom, Dad hurry!" yelled my brother Jasone. I didn’t understand why he was screaming until I followed his horrified eyes down to my floor and there was blood everywhere. I slowly reached up to touch my nose and I felt the blood all over my hands and I knew something was definitely wrong. My brother rushed over to me and held my head in his lap as he cried. I tried to reach up and touch him but it all hurt too much. "Lord please I’m not ready to die." I said to myself. "Mom!!" my brother cried out again. "Jasone what is you doing in your sister room and screaming on-" she couldn’t continue her sentence as she...

...You can’t forget that,” I argued. “Those people’s lives mattered, and they can never be replaced. Their families and friends will never get over losing them. Their deaths matter just as much as the people who died in 9/11 and the Holocaust.” “Lili, I know they’re people and that they matter, but come on! If you focus on how sad that shooting was, then you’ll just be a sad person!” “Maybe I am a sad person,” I lowered my gaze. “Well, I’m a happy person. You should be happy! Why are you okay with being sad?” “I’m not okay with being sad! I can be happy too, but I think you and I have very different views of what it means to be truly happy.” “Okay, what makes you happy?” “Books, writing, and the violin.” Joshua shook his head. “Oh my gosh, that stuff is so boring!” “Boring? That ‘stuff’ is my life! Writing is my passion. Books are my comfort. The violin is my muse.” “Okay, okay! I’m just sayin’, I think those things are boring, but that’s great if you like those stuff.” “What makes you happy, Joshua?” “…I like making people smile and laugh.” This time, I shook my head. “That’s not healthy. You shouldn’t rely on other people for your own happiness.” “Why not?” “Because people will let you down. They are unpredictable and unreliable.” “So who are you supposed to rely on...

...Character strengths I chose to write about a person that I know; she is very strong as an individual and has gone through so many trials and tribulations in her life that to me she’s an excellent example of what a beautiful person is. No matter what she has gone through she always kept a smile on her face. This person encompassed courage in more ways than one. Her name was Jackie she was my aunt. “Courage is the emotional strength to overcome fear in the face of opposition and adversity” (Steve R. Baumgardner and Marie K. Crothers 2009). My aunt was a woman who off to a rough start in life did the wrong things she used drugs and she contracted HIV. For a while she was in denial about having the disease and wouldn’t at all admit to it. However from somewhere in her she gained courage, she knew she was ill and she decided to face the illness head on, she sat us all down and told us about it. She told us not to cry because she had excepted it and she’s okay with it. She kept a smile on her face until the very end this takes a great deal of courage. Courage is something very important to me because it’s a trait that anyone needs in life. You can’t walk on faith without courage. That is exactly what she did until the very end of her life, she knew the night she left in the ambulance that she wasn’t coming back but she reassured everyone that she was going to be okay, that alone took a great deal of courage to go to a hospital alone knowing you are never coming back. I immediately jumped out of my chair, grabbed my bag and followed closely behind her. She led me down a hallway to a small room, opened the door and I stepped in. A Terrible Dream

...A terrible dream I was relaxing at home watching television when I suddenly heard someone calling my name “Seik Yee, help me! Help me please!” I turn my face to the person who calling me, I was so astonishment! I saw my friend Jack. “Jack! Are you okay? What happened to you?” I asked. He stared at me blankly and started speaking in Mandarin! His Mandarin was very good as my Malay, which was zilch. I spoke some Mandarin. “Wo hen xin ku, jiu wo” he kept on repeating. “Fang wo zou, Fang wo zou” he said. This translated to “I’m suffering, please help me. Let me go. Let me go.” We usually conversed in English and his behaviour was strange and I was confused and worried. Jack’s face was drenched in perspiration and he was getting increasingly agitated. I was sure that he wasn’t having a heart attack though. I had seen the movie ‘The Exorcist’ before and his demeanour reminded me of one possessed, just like the movie. Suddenly, someone rushed to my side and a crowd had gathered. Jack’s eyes were expressionless and he didn’t recognise me although it was impossible for him not to notice me. He continued talking aloud but now I couldn’t understand what he was saying at all. It seemed to be heavily-accented Mandarin and Chinese dialect of some sort I couldn’t identify. The person who rushed to my side just now suggested he had suffered a heart stroke and a few people helped move him into shaded area. He was almost delirious by then. Suddenly, a group of monks nearby came over to see...

Online vs Traditional

...The Comparison Between Online and Traditional Classes Kayla Staples National American University Kayla Staples EN1550 Online vs Traditional Classes There are many different pros and cons to taking online classes versus traditional in class classes. A counselor or teacher is someone that could help a student determine which type of classes best fits the student. Before deciding on such a big decision, a student must first take into consideration how disciplined they are as a student to get their work done. Discipline as a student is a number one factor when it comes to deciding on a online or a traditional class room class. Being an online student takes a lot of discipline because you do not have someone standing there telling you exactly how to do your work. You also do not have someone there who can help you right away with questions you may have on your assignment. An online student needs to be organized and able to complete tasks on a certain deadline without being reminded daily. Being a traditional class student could be a better route for someone who does not have much discipline outside of the classroom. While being in class, you have to get your work done in a certain time and you have that time to do it in class. You teacher and peers are in class with you if you ever get in a stump on an assignment and need to ask questions. Flexibility is another factor that needs to come into play when a student decides on which type of class to take. If a student...
