I chose the article Mom of Accused Cop Killer in Hattiesburg: ‘The Drugs Had Him’. The source of this article is the LA Times (May 11, 2015). It talks about marijuana and pills being involved on daily basis. It talks about how families can get hurt and not just their own. I chose the article because the title caught my eye and seemed interesting. This article honestly caught my eye because it seemed like an interesting read on how drugs came into play with murdering a cop. This article speaks about the shooting that occurred when an officer pulled the car over. On May 11th 2015 three suspects were pulled over and the officer called for backup because of a feeling. That feeling was right because Marvin started shooting and killed two officers of the name Benjamin Deen and Liquori Tate. Mary Smith the mother of Marvin Banks was addicted to drugs and possibly had a mental disorder the mother thought. On May 11th 2015 Mary Smiths son Marvin Banks, Curtis banks were involved with murder also another suspect. Marvin Banks who was addicted to drugs was charged with Capital Murder for the involvement of killing two officers, and Curtis Banks was charged with accessory of the fact of Capital Murder. She tried to get him to go to Pine Grove Behavioral Health Addiction Services but he wouldn’t do it he would just sit at home and get high. Her younger son was told not to do hard drugs from is older brother Marvin but when you see your older brother doing it, you may not put too much thought into not trying it. Unfortunately Curtis got himself involved with the shootings that killed two police officers. So now the mother will have both her children in jail for a long period of time.
