Assignment 1: Innovation from Google’s Free Food Strategy

Business 302-Management Concepts
Chanel Stryker
May 1, 2016
Professor: Michael Brizek

Google is the world’s leading search engine and is also an amazing company to work for. Googles mission is to organize the worlds information and make it universally accessible and useful. "The current pre-dominant business model for commercial search engines is advertising" (Spencer, n.d.). Google's search engine has ranked number 1 in the Alexa index proving itself to be the leader in search engine usage. This can also be noted that Google has become synonymous with web search. Often you will hear how people would "google" the information rather than "search" for it. "The other side of Google's hugely successful business plan is innovation" (Spencer, n.d.). This is demonstrated in the products and services that Google incorporates into its brand. (Spencer, C. n.d.). Google was named number 1 by Fortune for best company to work for. Google makes sure to provide its employees with all of the best and make sure they have a workplace that employees enjoy. Google believes that if you are satisfied with where you are employed and you have everything you need it increases productivity and innovation. Since Google offers the best to their employees they obviously seek the best; however, the strategies they use for hiring are out of the norm and some may say unorthodox. In a conversation with The New York Times’ Tom Friedman, Google’s head of people operations, Laszlo Bock, detailed what the company looks for. And increasingly, it’s not about credentials. Google looks for the ability to step back and embrace other people’s ideas when they’re better. “It’s ‘intellectual humility.’ Without humility, you are unable to learn,” Bock says. “Successful bright people rarely experience failure, and so they don’t learn how to

...In the past, television is a luxurious item to a number of families; however, it gradually becomes popular nowadays because it does not cost an arm and a leg any more as before, so most of the homes have already accessed to it. According to scientists, watching TV has nothing benefit for people, particularly for children. They also assert that watching too much TV often does have negative effects on youngsters. The first effect is children turn to be lazier in view of watching TV exceedingly. For example, it is time for children to learn the lesson, but the exciting film is so appealed them that they are not able to cease watching to give attention to learning. Scientists also show that children’s brain does not work when watching TV but passively receive information and images from it. Consequently, they are lazy in thinking and unlikely to generate creativeness. Another impact of watching TV is healthy problems like increasing obesity and ruining their eyes. A case in point is sitting for long hours in front of the TV screen will make the body do not move and decrease the metabolism, leading to obesity. In addition, sitting nearly TV screen is a consequence of eye diseases such as short-sighted, long-sighted, astigmatism, to name but a few. Researchers indicate that television emits blue light that also produced by the sun. The wavelength of light produced is 400-500 nm, potentially triggering the formation of free radical and injuring the photochemistry in the retina of children...

N. Arizona Es150 Reaction Paper

...Emily Benjamin ES150 2/12/2014   Reaction Paper #3: Black Indian Slaves Narrative     George Fortman’s interview concerning his past gives an extremely detailed account of the events that shaped the man he is today. He begins his interview by recounting the horrific past of his Native American people. He tells of the deception his ancestors lived through, as well as the journey that many of them did not live to see the end of. However, two of his ancestors, John Hawk, a Blackhawk Indian, and Rachel, a Choctaw maiden, survived the “trail of death” and brought their two children, Courtney and Lucy, to the cane lands. John Hawk soon after became ill and passed on, leaving Rachel and the two girls to become slaves and chattel. Courtney soon became a mother to Eliza, a half-breed daughter from Master Ford George. As Eliza grew older, she too bore a child for Master Ford George after spearing him through the heart and giving birth on her own, away from the plantation. This child is George Fortman, by whom this interview is held. George and his mother are well taken care of by the George family throughout his childhood, as they both work as slaves for the family. George is educated by Mistress Lorraine, Ford George’s widowed wife, and lives to see the beginning and end of the Civil War. I found that the most troubling piece of information from George Fortman’s interview is his recollection of his mother’s own troubling past. From her confusing childhood as a halfbreed, to watching...

Steak-N Shake Research Paper

...Most people, like me, usually don’t have an answer to “Where should we eat?” when we are asked. Whenever I get asked, majority of the time I say, “I don’t care” because I usually don't care where we eat. However, sometimes I know where I want to eat and right now is one of them times. I think we should eat at Steak-N-Shake or Chix. Steak-N-Shake is probably the best place to go eat if you want to drive all the way there. They are known for their steakburgers and milkshakes, hence the name. They have the best food and service for a cheap price. Their milkshakes are handmade and the fries are always fresh. Plus, you can add different seasonings to the fries. One of my favorite sandwiches I like when I go there is the Frisco Melt. You get two...

The Rock N Roll Run Research Paper

...“Keep running, you're almost there!” These words reverberated in my mind when I did my first half marathon and the image of Dory singing “just keep swimming”. It was a long arduous journey, but in the end I am so humbled to have run this race for the families in Africa who don’t have clean water. From the countless nights of writing emails to potential donors and the several cramps from months of preparation, the Rock n’ Roll run in Seattle was an awarding experience. The mission was not easy, but empowering individuals out of poverty by planting the seeds of change was worth all the energy. Giving hope to kids in Africa by showing them unconditional love changed my life. I have realized that people together can pull the roots of poverty to make a positive shift. I ran this race with World Vision, a global non-profit organization, whose mission is to give clean water to families in Africa. I took part in this event mainly because I learned how many people in the world don’t have access to this simple necessity and wanted to make a change. I was exposed to this wonderful organization through my church who blesses many people in third world countries. From a very young age, I always had a passion for helping people in need. In middle school I raised...

...is in P This paper tries to define an algorithm to find out if an input value is a prime or not in minimum amount of time with least possible complexity. It says that prime numbers are of great importance to mathematics especially in branch of mathematics called number theory. Out of the different properties of a prime number this paper is interested in the property of finding whether a number is a prime or not as many applications of cryptography need very large prime numbers. The general known procedure to find if a number is prime or not is to try and divide every number m≤ (√n) and if m divides n then n is not a prime. It says that this test is known from very ancient times but this test is very inefficient as it takes Ω (√n) steps to find if the number is prime. This paper tries to give a method to find out if a number is prime or not in log (n) steps which is very efficient. The paper says that Fermat`s Little Theorem almost gives an efficient way of finding if a number is prime however it states that there are some composite numbers that satisfy the conditions of Fermat`s Little Theorem and are not primes. Since then many mathematicians like Miller, Rabin, Solovay and Strassen have used Fermat`s Little Theorem as it basis and have created efficient algorithms to find out primes. The main goal is to find unconditional deterministic polynomial time algorithm for prime testing. And this paper achieves this goal as it gives a deterministic Ô (log^15/2 n) time algorithm...

...the top 10 economics journals. This study highlights this fact and has found tenure to be a likely cause for the lack of Asia-focused articles. This stems from the strong emphasis universities place on the publishing of articles and with the belief that there is a lack of reliable data on Asia, researchers are less inclined to conduct studies on Asia given that top economics journals require accurate and dependable data for publishing. 1 FYP Project Number: HE_2AY1415_09 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS We, the authors of this paper, would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Chia Wai Mun, Associate Professor, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Nanyang Technology University, for her unwavering support and constant guidance throughout this project. ...States and the largest in Canada. • The three largest competitors held over 50% market share between them, with the remainder split among hundreds of suppliers, none of whom was thought to hold more than a 5% market share. • Lily-Tulip has market share of approximately 15% with current production of paper (wax coated) and extruded foam cups. Table 1 identifies market share by product line and cup size. • Cup sizes ranged from 8 ounces to 48 ounces and were used to hold hot and cold beverages. • Generally, smaller cups were for hot beverages and the larger sizes for cold. 1 • A trend had emerged towards larger cups for hot beverages, primarily in the convenience store market. Table 2 presents 1984 industry demand. • While it is considered that the fast food and convenience store markets have matured, growth in cup usage is expected to mirror growth in the general population (1984 U.S. population growth rate was 0.89%i). • The industry has significant excess capacity due, in part, to the introduction of foam technology and a general slowing of the growth in demand for disposable cups. Product Information: • There are six variations in cup models: Paper (Wax coated), Paper (Poly coated), Foam, Plastic, Extruded...
