These two books are so similar a reader might think that one of the books had copied the other! Differences in Red Badge of Courage and Soldier’s heart are slim however, there are some important ones. The books are the same in some ways because both stories take place during the civil war. The main characters in both stories also share the same personality traits and experience some of the same troubles as the other, this may be why they seem alike throughout the two books. In conclusion, both books are similar but they also have some major differences. Charley the main character in Solder’s Heart, is from Minnesota while Henry, the main character in Red Badge of Courage is from New York. During battle the two characters acted differently, Charley stood his ground and followed his general’s orders but on the other hand, Henry ran away from battle and was labeled a deserter. Another difference is, Charley is injured differently then Herny, Charley is shot while fighting in battle, and Henry is hurt while fleeing away from his group. Another way the stories differ is the endings, in Soldier's Heart we get to see the negative effect the war had on Charley, however we do not get to see how the war effected Henry or how he reacts to the gruesome battles in the Great Badge of Courage. In the book, both main characters enlisted for the war despite their mother's not wanting them too. Henry and Charley were both injured during the war, while fleeing or fighting in the face of battle. While experiencing the awful thing that is warfare, Henry and Charley thought back to happier times and better memories such as beautiful women and the parades that were thrown for them. In conclusion, both characters in the Red Badge of Courage and Soldier's Heart share some of the same experiences because the story takes place during civil war, where they fought for the same
