Huntsville Project

...Course Project – Week 4 Essay Questions After inputting the variable cost information for the resources (manpower) used such as; the project manager, general contractor and the manufacturing engineer and the fixed costs assigned to project deliveries such as; $32,000 for building design, a construction of $2,100,000 and $780,000 for plant equipment. At this point it would appear that with a proposed budget limit of $2,750,000 set by the company’s Board of Directors that we are on target with an estimated total budget of $2,633,532 for the Huntsville Plant Project. As you can see we don’t have very much room (budgetary) for any missteps therefore, it will be necessary for very member of the team monitor and control individual budgets and areas of responsibility. Within the Huntsville project is divided into key project phases and probably the most important phase to ensure the success of the entire project is the planning phase. There a few critical deliverables that must be completed within the ten (10) weeks set aside for planning. Just to point out a few key “must happens” such as; procure the plant’s worksite, obtain all needed permits and approvals and the selection of an general contractor not to say we can relax or slack on any part of the project’s tight budget and schedules, again the planning phase is only ten weeks with a budget of only $285,754 the project’s first test. After the planning phase is the preparation phase were the project is really defined and...

...- 1 PM586 SEC H PROJECT PART 1 SEITZ HUNTSVILLE PROJECT PROJECT REPORT Introduction Project Planning is the key to the success of a Project. Seitz Huntsville Project is a very large project with a budget of $2,750,000 to be completed in only 18 months. Janis Clark, the Project Manager for Seitz Huntsville Project seems very determined in implementing this Project, having all the support from board of directors and access to functional elements at the corporate plant. Steve Pokorski, the Vice President of Operations, and Joe Downs (was also a Project Manager candidate for this project), the Director of Plant Engineering, were also asked to help Janis in anyway, even if they had to go out of the way. 2 Janis Strategy Mark Green, the Project Sponsor asked Janis to furnish the Project artifacts before proceeding further and Janiss approach was to convert her task list to Project Charter, Scope Statement and WBS. Since she had already created a task list, it was easier for her to build a WBS but that certainly is correct path. Janis, to the best of my knowledge, should have created a Project Charter first with the help of her assistants. A charter document is the WHAT of a project and if not planning properly, the Project is destined to fail. Charter document is used to communicate between the Project Teams, Stake holders and the rest of the company about the Project. This document is the foundation of the Project. It authorizes the project manager to proceed with the project. After...

Project Management Charter

...Overview A student project is required in PROJ586 and is to be completed on an individual basis. Use of Microsoft Project software is required. The project will consist of the Huntsville plant construction effort, the details of which are in the "project tabs" in the course shell for each week's assignment This course project assignment follows the Huntsville project from a Project Charter (where the effort is initially approved), through the Project Scope Statement (where the scope is elaborated in more detail), through the WBS (where the major tasks and sub-tasks are documented), and finally to a completed project schedule in Microsoft Project, with resources and costs added in. Along the way we also complete a Risk Plan and a Communications Plan for the Huntsville project, and deal with scheduling and resource issues, all normal and customary actives in most project environments. However all a bit mysterious to the uninitiated! So I'm going to try and walk you through all of that with these Part-1 through Part-5 instruction documents. Please do listen to the Course Project Tour Video (in the Course Home/Course Project tab). It lays out in summary all the deliverables for the Course Project. Since the effort is worth 25% of your grade, you really need to understand what we are asking for and when all the pieces are due! Project Management Week 4

...Project Management Systems Week 4: Planning and Monitoring the Projects: Cost, Budget, and Earned Value Jan 22-28, 2012 The Huntsville Plant Project Planning and Monitoring Costs, Budget and Earned Value Analysis It is important that the SEITZ Corporation understands our progress in relation to both the project team and the SEITZ Corporation’s strategic goals and objectives, regarding the progress of the Huntsville plant. As a continued effort to report the progress that is being made on the plant project we would like to report how our project team is planning and monitoring costs, budget and earned value. As the project manager, I have used Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to identify that the project is currently within budget. We have assigned fixed costs to the following tasks: * Building Design = $32,000 * Site Cost = $216,000 * Permit Cost = $3,200 * Building Cost = $1,200,000 * Equipment Cost = $780,000 * Equipment Installation = $120,000 * Truck Cost = $135,000 * Landscaping = $26,000 Total fixed costs = $2,512,200 In addition to assigning the fixed costs we have identified the total cost for the allocated resources to be $119,268. Between the fixed costs of tasks scheduled and the allocated resource hours that are utilized during the ‘Planning Phase’, we are looking at a budget of $283,882 thus far. Currently the ‘Planning Phase’ is set to take 10 weeks to complete with a total of 1,066 hours of allocated resources...

Project Management

...Micah Harris March 18, 2012 Based on the information used with the project plan, The Huntsville Project will not be completed on June 30, 2012 but instead on July 17, 2012. To move up the completion time, there are only a couple of options. For starters, hiring additional construction workers for the construct building phase would be beneficial. The cost of the project would increase but we will be very close to the expected completion date. Another suggestion would be to decrease the procure equipment phase. If we were to reduce that stage by two weeks, it would put us right on the mark of the completion date. Based on the finding of the resource information, I would proceed with both of these options to give the project some slack room in case of any issues during the process. Another finding with the project schedule is that we have resources that are over allocated. Our Facility Specialist is over worked during the Selecting an Architect phase and Selecting a Real Estate Consultant phase. One solution would to be to extent the Select Architect phase from 5/10/2011 to 5/24/11. By doing so our completion date would also move to 7/31/11. Another option that we have would be to extent the Selection a Real Estate Consultant from 4/29/11 to 5/24/11. Even though this option seems like it would be detrimental to the overall completion date, which is not the case. This particular phase is would have the completion date the same as...

...Huntsville Plant Project Risk Matrix Assessment Vilma Belliard Devry University, Keller Graduate School of Management Professor Susan Orr 2/08/13 A risk is an uncertain event that, if occurs, can jeopardize accomplishing the project objective. Risk identification includes determining which may adversely affect the project objective and what the impact of each risk might be if it occurs. (Gido/Clements, Pg. 285) I have created a risk matrix that identifies the potential risk that can place a burden on the project scope, schedule and budget. My main concern and identification is the recruitment and training of new employees. We have been provided with 6 weeks to train new employees, some individuals come with experience and several will be new to the plastic container industry. New recruits will require additional time to learn all of the functions of daily operations. If they are not trained in time, this will put a burden on the creation of the production plan. The pre-production plan can be used as a training activity to ensure that they will be able to assist in the production plan. Solution: Apply a headhunter to scan resumes for candidates with required experience and qualifications. Request additional training time for new employees; propose 9 weeks for individuals with no industry experience. If the board and budget allows, provide paid training to those individuals who are willing and able to start early. The second identification that is of major...

Consumer Behavior: Jetblue vs Southwest Airlines

...Consumer Behavior Consumer Behavior: Contrast Jet Blue vs. Southwest Airlines Trident University MKT501 CS1 Identify key external factors that affect the passenger airline industry and explain how that impact occurs There are several external factors that affect the passenger airline industry. Some of the factors that affect the industry are economic crisis, instability in aviation fuel price, and environmental factors. I will elaborate more in detail in the following paragraphs on these factors. The first area I want to talk about is our countries current Economic Crisis, and in my opinion drives all the other factors that affect airline industry’s the most. The current economic situation is not good and therefore will have an effect on what a customer will or will not do. Air travel is very expensive as it is, in my opinion, so a sluggish economy will add more pressure on an individual or family thinking of flying anywhere. The second area that affects the airline industry is the cost of aviation fuel. If fuel prices are high, the airline will have to charge more for tickets. As I mentioned earlier, higher ticket prices is not what the public wants in our current economy. The airline industry is a business and in order to make money and continue to provide the service, the company has a breakeven price, approximately 66% of their operating cost (Airline Economics Break Even Load Factors Paragraph). If the company doesn’t...
