You came to college to be on your own, make your own decisions and grow as an independent person. Technology is quickly growing in today's society. The integration of computers has grown tremendously, however is sometimes restricted because of the rules of the professor. Technology, should not be restrained and governed in the classroom without the input of the student because of the professor's opinions or preference. Some professors don't allow laptops, and other technology to be opened and utilized during class to be able to take notes and use the internet to answer questions. Students would like to be able to use their own technology to best advance their learning while not being a distraction to others.

Learning Experience Paper Psy/103

...Learning Experience Paper When experiences in life happen, we learn from them. They can be positive or negative learned experiences but none the less we learn what works or what doesn’t. All experiences create responses within us. Those responses can be conditioned or unconditioned. Learning from your experiences growing up allows for the growth of yourself through the perception of what you feel has changed you as a person. Self-reflection after experiences happened shows you how they affected you and what you can do to change that learned behavior or response. My Learning Experience and Response Growing up my parents were abusive to each other and us children. When arguments between my parents would occur my bedroom was the battle ground. My father seemed to think that threatening his life and asking me to “Kiss him goodbye.” Would keep my mother around. When she finally got the courage up to leave, she said it was because my little brother said how nice it was when my dad was on a hunting trip. Leaving my dad made my mother frightened and would tell us how she felt my father would kill us in our sleep, and she would go into detail often about what she felt he would do to us. Later my father’s family got involved, and they all came and beat up my family. My two younger brothers were crying and one still in an infant seat I had to take out and try to protect from them as they tried to grab them and run. Being the older child, it was more my responsibility to protect everyone...

College Success

...Now, as a college student, I have learned so much more from what I knew in my younger years. One thing that I learned and what I wish to pass on is my belief of what success is. Going through college, I have failed many times. My path on the pre-pharmacy program has not been a smooth one, to the point that I had to extend beyond a 3 year undergrad to a 3 and a half year undergrad. Starting college I did not have the best study habits nor focus to do well in my classes. This led me to have a mediocre GPA, but I was barely going to make the cut. Unfortunately, I overslept for a biology practical in the summer session, causing me to fail the lab which results in failing the class. This was devastating to my GPA as well as to my morale....

...gives some examples and graphs on price discrimination strategies, price ceiling and what happens when the government regulates prices to give them a price ceiling to protect the consumer. I also want to discuss a perfect competitive market and the short and long term effects if demand rises or falls, also, why some long-run average curves are so steep. Lastly, I will explain the rationale and implications of the new guidelines used by DOJ and FTC for evaluating mergers. Problem 1. Sub shop In my sub shop, called Subtown, after some research I have found that with the pricing structure that is currently in place it has not attracted as many college students as I believe we could serve. The average student at the nearby college eats out three to four times a week for lunch and close to five times a week for dinner with the average meal being nine to twelve dollars. The total population of the nearby college is about twelve hundred students. Since the demand for fast food for lunch and dinner for college students is relatively elastic because there is already seven other fast food establishments in the area that are in close proximity to the college as well. One of those is another sub shop, one is a sandwich shop, and there are three burger places a Chinese food place and a taco place. None of these establishments offer a price discrimination strategy in favor of college students. Subtown came to the conclusion that a price discrimination strategy would be the best way to go...

The Habits Of Highly Effective People, By Stephen Covey

...self-awareness when it came to my life and future. I never even thought about it before I took this class. When I typed in the word "self-awareness" into Google the definition of it was, conscious knowledge of one's own character, feelings, motives, and desires. Throughout On Course by Skip Downing and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey, they talked about different strategies on how to improve self-awareness in your life and how to create success in one's life from these strategies. While I was doing the reading I could not help but agree with both Downing and Covey. I agree with Covey and Downing that self-awareness is a crucial strategy to create success in one's life because you...

Personal Responsibility and College Success

...PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND COLLEGE SUCCESS 1 Personal Responsibility and College Success Francisco C. Lujan Gen/200 February 24, 2012 Brad Volmar Personal responsibility is the lifestyle we choose to live whether it’s maintaining our health, self discipline & respect, spirituality, one’s outlook on life, decisions one makes, and accepting responsibility for one’s actions. A person’s attitude, ambition, and self- discipline can determine educational success. All three of these traits are used in our everyday living can lead to academic achievement. Setting goals whether they be short or long term can be a deciding factor on our future also. It is my belief that people are given the talents and abilities to be what they want to be but it is their decision to make it happen. I am living proof that personal responsibility is a strong factor for who I am today and who I’ve become. Prior to having my first daughter while living in Hanau, Germany, I did not have the responsibilities that came with being a father and in fact it took some getting used to over time. I noticed that...

Personal Responsibility

...way; however you and only you can be responsible for your life and choices you make because no one can affect you and the way you choose to do things and to complete college you have to be responsible and push yourself. As Len Wilson said Wilson (2012), “Personal capital is closely related to person responsibility, when personal responsibility is defined as a person’s “response-ability,” that is, the ability of a person to maturely respond to the carious challenges and circumstances of life.” I believe that Wilson said it quite right. Ones’ choices show his or her responsibility. They can either do the right thing or whatever they want to do. You and only you can be responsible for your life and your choices. You are given choices everyday where you have to pick from option A or B sometimes life gives you more than two. You have two choices: You can go to college to get a degree to achieve a better paying job or you can work a full time job and work for minimum wage. Which one would you pick? You choice changes’ your whole life that one decision could take your life one way or another. If you went to college you would be there for 4 years achieving your degree. You would perhaps move to a new town, city, state or even country. Make new friends, date new people, work a part time or even a full time job, get your degree, and start working. If you went straight into working a full time job making minimum wage it is harder to get promotions to make more money. You would make new...

...Daniels graduated from Lynchberg State College two years ago. Since graduating from the college, he has worked in the accounting department of Lynchberg Manufacturing. Daniels was recently asked to prepare a sales budget for the year 2011. He conducted a thorough analysis and came out with projected sales of 250,000 units of product. That represents a 25 percent increase over 2010. Daniels went to lunch with his best friend, Jonathan Walker, to celebrate the completion of his first solo job. Walker noticed Daniels seemed very distant. He asked what the matter was. Daniels stroked his chin, ran his hand through his bushy, black hair, took another drink of scotch, and looked straight into the eyes of his friend of 20 years. “Jon, I think I made a mistake with the budget.” “What do you mean?” Walker answered. “You know how we developed a new process to manufacture soaking tanks to keep the ingredients fresh?” “Yes,” Walker answered. “Well, I projected twice the level of sales for that product than will likely occur.” “Are you sure?” Walker asked. “I checked my numbers. I'm sure. It was just a mistake on my part,” Daniels replied. “So, what are you going to do about it?” asked Walker. “I think I should report it to Pete. He's the one who acted on the numbers to hire additional workers to produce the soaking tanks,” Daniels said. “Wait a second,” Walker said. “How do you know there won't be extra demand for the product? You and I both know demand is a tricky...

Business

...Will receiving a college degree improve your career opportunities? To me this is a very great question. I have always wondered what will happen when I obtain my college degree. I have been doing research about my job field to see if the job success rate was high in that particular major that I am taking. My biggest fear is not finding a great job after I finish college. I have seen a lot of my fellow students fail in finding a job after that graduate. I have looked up five reason why receiving a college degree can help with our career after graduation. One of the topics would be money. Getting a college degree will directly influence your earning potential and your income will multiply manifolds. Having more money will enable you to see through tough times you may face in your life. Having a nil balance in your bank account is not a bright prospect if you are in need of money immediately. A college degree will help you earn more and make your future secure. The next topic would be job opportunities. Regardless of what anyone might say, the more qualified you are, the better the employment opportunities would be for you. A college degree will land you a better job than a high school diploma. The last topic I would like to discuss would be education. Having a college degree enables you to think about going for a professional or master’s degree program. Without an undergraduate degree, you will not be able to enroll in any institution for your further education. Remember...

Why Is It Important To Go Back To College

...When you go off to college, you leave behind some important people in your life. I moved four hours away from my hometown and left my family and my friends behind. Sure, there were some tears shed, and I always said I’d come home to visit and make time for everyone, but turns out, not everyone wanted to make time for me. She and I became friends when we were sixteen. We hit it off immediately when she started working at the same grocery store as me. She had a car, so we’d always go out to dinner or drive around town looking for an adventure. We went to concerts together all the time. We’d drive hours to meet our favorite celebrities and watch them perform. We took each other to get tattoos and piercings. We did everything together. Then I left for college. Even if you don’t realize it, you’re so much busier in college. You can’t just drop everything and go to a concert or go to the movies, or go get a new tattoo. You’ve either got studying to do or you’re just too poor because you can’t work as much. If you have friends who aren’t in college, they don’t understand as much. Yeah, they’re probably busy working and doing their own thing, but they can’t truly understand because they’re not in your shoes. I tried my best to keep in touch with my friend for a while. Sure, there were times we’d go for a while without talking. At one point,...

Are Colleges Worth the Price of Admission

...Summary: “Are Colleges Worth the Price of Admission?” by Andrew Hacker and Claudia Dreifus, presents proposals “that might begin to set things right’ (TSIS, 180) in education. Both professors, Hacker and Dreifus, studied institutions and interviewed higher education leaders, policy makers, and students across the country (180). According to their voluntary assignment, they acknowledged at first, their belief that “all Americans can do college work,” which basically provided a thesis for every proposal to follow within their article. Suggestions, such as persuading students to liberate their imagination instead of just focusing on a financial goal after graduating, or “replacing tenure with multi-year contracts” (181) so that all professors begin to take more initiative to improve, gave way to a deeper analysis of specific colleges and their priorities. My Response: In the article, “Are Colleges Worth the Price of Admission?” by Andrew Hacker and Claudia Dreifus, both professors maintains a perspective that is convincing, to a degree. “We believe all Americans can do college work, so universal enrollment should be our nation’s goal” (180). In making this comment, Hacker and Dreifus urge us to do the obvious. Of course everyone should have the same opportunity to be accepted at the collegiate level, but there are several problems that have to be addressed and taken care of prior to the suggestion of this desire for all. If there was universal enrollment, will that lead to...

Racial Discrimination

...party is denied these favors or opportunities. Discrimination is not just among races or ethnic groups, it is among different genders, religions, preferences in partners, and different economic qualities. The people of the world today argue about discrimination all the time. Why is it still among us? Why do people still rant and rave about it? What can be done? Why don’t we just let it be? These are the questions that people ask all the time. But, in fact, none of these questions are ever solved because of the beliefs of society. Society has put discrimination into stereotyping and many other different forms, but the point is that discrimination is here to stay and most likely will never leave. Affirmative Action is used for a diversity in the workplace or university so that discrimination can not be apart of the work environment. But, this is not the case. If discrimination was not among us than why is Affirmative Action still in play. Affirmative Action’s whole use was to get rid of discrimination but, owners of companies or schools still can find a way around the system. We can write a Custom Research Paper on Discrimination for you! This is a big factor in universities today. Chaos

...Introduction Scientists have been coming up with theories for thousands of years now. The theories have been tried and tested have been altered and improved to better understand why certain things happen in and out of this world. Many of these theories are still in the works and our not fully comprehendible and scientists have been working hard to achieve breakthroughs in these areas. One such theory has achieved several breakthroughs within the past couple of years and that theory is called Chaos Theory. This theory first started out mainly as a sort of fictitious happening only read about in novels until lately when scientist have discovered that this theory may have more effect than previously deliberated. In Leonard Smith’s book, “Chaos: A Very Short Introduction” he gives an understandable account of what the Chaos Theory is and how it affects the environment around us. Leonard explains to the reader how the Chaos Theory works through mathematical diagrams, models, and simulations to show the possible results the theory could claim on the environment around us. The book is for the most part easy to understand and gives the reader a sufficient understanding even if the reader does not have a background in mathematics or science. Chaos theory first came about when scientist decided they wanted to be able to predict the future more accurately of certain events happening. The theory takes a look at the initial beginning of a system and tries to determine its future...
