In the movie “Remember the Titans”, Coach Boone, a Southern black head football coach, played by Denzel Washington, delivers an unforgettable speech to his team about the racial tensions in society that are breaking up his team by making them wake up at breaking dawn to go for a run into the woods while attending football camp,
The clip starts off where Coach Boone tells them they are going to all follow the rest of the coaches as well as himself through the woods and if they are to get lost, not to go back to camp, to go straight home. After taking them across rivers and tress they come to a stop where Coach Boone asks them “anybody knows what this place is” (Remember the Titans) and then tells them that they are standing where the Battle of Gettysburg was fought. He begins with a brief history of what happened at that time, by stating, “50,000 men died on this field, fighting the same fight we are still fighting amongst ourselves today” (Remember the Titans). He references this battle to them because they are aware of the event and know exactly how it is to live in a segregated state, where race differences is at its highest point and is not only affecting their life but their performance as a team in football, since their team makes up both blacks and whites. He tries to reach out to them by bringing out their heritage and how even though the battle has ended the terrible hatred and fights amongst themselves is still happening.
As the Battle of Gettysburg becomes the basis of his speech, Coach Boone gets the team’s full attention with his slow deliberate tone trying to get them to grasp every single word he says. He uses imagery of battle senses where he says, “This green field right here was painted red, bubbling with the blood of young boys, smoke and hot lead pouring right through their bodies” (Remember the Titans) to get them to realize not necessarily what would happen to them if they don’t stick by each other’s side when playing a football game but what will happen to the unity of their team. It will end without even giving it the chance just like those young men did for not fighting together with unity.
As Coach Boone keeps delivering his speech, the team realizes that in order to win not only do they need to gain the respect of each other but become a big family. They will have to leave pride and racism behind and come clean as a big brotherhood. It is up to their generation to open the eyes of others and show them that they can play as a team and get along equally with any race either black or white.
Coach Boone knows well that before he gave them the speech they hated each other. They would go up against each other and tensions ran high, so he compares their situation with that on the field of the Gettysburg. He succeeds at being an inspiration to them and getting them to work together to try to resolve this racism issue in the town. As the movie concluded they became unified and are able to overcome their past issues and historical tensions that they were raised hearing. They’ve won every football game bringing not only a championship title to their hometown but equality amongst each other. Coach Boone’s words of emotion, imagery, and familiar ideas put new perspective in each and every one of the boy’s minds. He was able to help spur on a huge change that affected a whole town and made a very big difference in many people’s lives.

Respect

...Respect 1) What is Respect? Respect for me is accepting others for who they are, including both their strengths and weaknesses. Every person is different and that is what makes us a diverse society. Accepting those differences and not insulting or being rude to them means respect. It also means that there are boundaries that should not be crossed. These boundaries are social lines that should not be crossed under any circumstance. These boundaries change depending on who it is (friend, colleague, family member, etc) and the time you have known that person. The more familiar the person, the fewer boundaries there are, and the higher up in society, the more respect and admiration they deserve. For example, the boundaries towards your boss are difference than your friends’ because there are many conversational topic that you don’t discuss with your boss in order to not cross those lines. In all, respecting someone is admiring him/her for strengths and not criticizing for weaknesses. 2) What does respect look like? Respect presents itself in different ways in different cultures. In the western world, respect was often shown as how conservative people dressed or spoke to each other. For example, in order to go to church, women had to wear long skirts and use a veil in their head. This showed that they had respect toward religion and God. Now days, people exhibit these respect traits less in a physical way because each person wants to be free in their development of personality...

Unbreakable Bond

...Communication, respect and forgiveness three key factors for a unbreakable bond. If you have these three factors down, your marriage should be very successful. Each of these factors play a big role in the marriage, without one of these, your marriage will fail. If you communicate but don’t respect or forgive, then there’s just a friendship, not a commitment. . If you respect but don’t communicate or forgive then your partner might feel dominate then you and expect you to respect him/her. Over time, you will feel like you’re not getting treated as an equal in the marriage. Lastly, if you forgive but don’t communicate or respect, there’s no point having a relationship because your partner knows you’ll forgive no matter what they do and no boundaries will be set because of the lack of communication. Communication is key for a successful marriage because if you don’t talk to each other and say what is on your mind then how will your partner know what to fix about them to make the marriage stronger. You can trust your partner and forgive them, but if you don’t communicate or talk about the issues that are going on, your marriage will continue with the same issues. Don’t be afraid to say what’s on your mind; unexpressed frustrations in a marriage can pile up and weigh you down like an overloaded gunnysack. These accumulated frustrations can quickly turn into resentments. “Holding resentment is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die,” said Sally, married 50 years...

...thought of as a union between two people that love each other and want to be happy for the rest of their lives. When in actuality marriage is “the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband and wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law” happiness’s relative and has nothing to do with having a long lasting marriage. It would be nice if all marriages could be happy long lasting affairs, but they aren’t. A lasting marriage depends on 5 things. The first is the significance the couple gives marriage, the second is love, the third is respect, the fourth is compatibility ,and the fifth is division of power and fear of being alone or losing security. Dissent on this topic and the qualities I have pointed out is normal but through my experience and different relationships I have seen these are the things that make a long lasting marriage. To have a lasting marriage the couple needs to feel that marriage is something sacred they also have to stop thinking of marriage as a temporary relationship status. Marriage is a contract between two people to unite assets; in some cultures marriage is for life and in others marriage will only last for as long as it is beneficial to both parties concerned. The seriousness of a marriage depends on how the married value the term, or status the term marriage brings them. The modern notion is that a marriage is for happiness and it should only last until you are discontent with the relationship. I have...

Disrespect

...I think disrespect is one of the biggest issues in the united states military. Respect is something everyone wants, not many have, and few want to give. Unfortunately, respect is not something that is given all the time. Maybe this is because respect is not clearly understood. What is respect? The Webster’s Dictionary defines it as an act of giving particular attention or high or special regard. Another definition shows respect as a feeling or attitude of admiration and deference toward somebody or something. And disrespect is defined as the lack of respect. This does not explain completely what it is, but at least it gives us an idea about what it may be. As a matter of fact, there are many forms of respect. There is physical respect. Physical respect is shown through body language. The way you might move your arms and hands while talking to someone, or the way you might stand, and even your facial expressions. People have different definitions than others when it comes to respect, so when it comes to physical respect, you have to be careful on how you present yourself. In the army, when talking to an NCO, lower ranking soldiers should always stand at parade rest. This is part of the army standard. Another form of respect is mental or emotional respect. This is the way you perceive someone. Verbal respect is also a form of respect. This form is the one that is most abused. When a lower ranking soldier is speaking to an NCO, they should always be professional and respectful towards...

Respect & Discipline

...Respect & Discipline The definition of respect is showing a positive feeling of esteem for another person or entity. But, respect is not tolerance; it has to be a genuine feeling of honor and not just putting up with the other person. Respect is an important first step in building a relationship and I value my relationship with the Army. Respect is not something that is done when it is convenient, it is done at all times. The Army teaches this as part of the 7 Core Values for many reasons. Even though the Army teaches us that respect is something that is given to the ranks, it is important to have respect for every soldier that I am in contact with whether or not I like them and whether or not they are ranked above me, below me or with me. It is not about respect for the individual as much as it is about respect for the rank. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect but especially those I am serving my country with. We all have to be part of the same team and treat each other the same way we expect to be treated. It is what keeps us a strong and unified. By having our superiors teach us the value of respect, they are uniting us for when we have to do combat. We have to rely on fellow soldiers as well as our superiors and without respect we would not care about helping each other. I can not expect others to treat me with respect when I am not showing them the same. This is taught to us in boot camp and we are expected to maintain the 7 Core Values at all times without...

Healthyrelationships

...I believe that respect is the key to having healthy relationships: respect will always make a relationship with your family, friends, significant others, or the general public stronger. When I visited my fiancé in Germany I saw many types of disrespect. The married guys would go out to clubs and bring back girls. We went out on a sunny day and walked through the streets of Nuremberg. The sun was beating down on our face and reflecting off the rooftops. The streets were clean and the buildings were so colorful it looked like a picture out of a child’s storybook. Then the guys threw their garbage on the ground instead of walking to the enormous metallic garbage can that was four feet in front of them. My fiancé and I discussed the disrespect that was being demonstrated by other soldiers and decided to respect others and ourselves to maintain our relationships healthy. Families should have a certain level of respect which many families lack. If families respect each other then communication will become easier. This would lead to families arguing less and trying to see the other member’s point of view because we’d respect each other’s ideas. This would then lead to a happier family. Friendships also require respect. Friends are people who we can trust and talk to without being judged. We must realize that all people are different and have different ideas or wants. Friend should respect one another’s beliefs and if a friend tells another something in confidence then that friend...
