Part 1:
First of all, neat little memory test! I didn’t do too badly. I wasn’t sure what letter was not underlined, and when asked about how many balls there were, I didn’t count for the tennis ball for some reason! I also paid way more attention to what types of animals there were in the picture rather than how many of them there were. I was trying to focus on the individual items.
Part 2:
Playing a video game
Phonological loop: The player of the video game is hearing certain sounds that will help them with the whereabouts of other players and/or AI.
Visuospatial Sketchpad: Allows the player to process very complex scenery and settings in the video game and gather that information to help them progress throughout the game
Central Executive: This area helps the player decide what is most important to deal with at the time/place of playing the game. This could be inside or outside the game! For instance: Your phone is ringing and it’s someone you know very well and can call back, or maybe it’s an important person calling about an interview. Your Central Executive will help decide what action you need to take.
Episodic Buffer: Remembering that you had a terrible outcome in a game you played because of a mistake you made. This memory helps you avoid making that mistake again.
Long-Term Memory: After playing the same game multiple times, the player can remember or know what to expect for certain scenarios. I know it’s super nerdy but, both my husband and I are avid gamers (when I’m not in school of course!) and I Know that there are certain situations in a video game that I will never forget! Some are years old!
