It was near dawn when three women set out to cook the world’s finest tamales. They began to make a list of potential ingredients that they would need. They knew that the process would be long and laborious, but the outcome would be unforgettable. The women began to go through the broad pantry shelf by shelf. First they grabbed the thin corn husks from the top shelf. Then they went to the refrigerator and grabbed the white bucket of lard and the fresh chile peppers.
