Costing Methods for Super Bakery

...COSTING METHODS Costing methods for Super Bakery University of Phoenix ACC/561 December 19, 2011 Timothy W. Williams, Ph.D. Costing methods for Super Bakery Super Bakery is a virtual corporation created in 1990 by Franco Harris, developing a network of supply for “donuts and other baked goods aimed for the institutional food market” (Kimmel, et al, 2009, pg 867). According to Kimmel, et al (2009), “only the cores, strategic functions of the business are performed inside the company. The remaining activities, selling, manufacturing, warehousing and shipping are outsourced to a network of external companies,” (p.865). Management Strategies The current management strategy was job order based upon the outsourcing of the jobs. While the company was realizing a 20% annual growth rate, management still found that the current system was allowing a wide variation in cost control. (Kimmel, et al, 2009, pg 865).When it was noticed that “orders with high margins were subsidizing orders with low margins” (Kimmel, et al, 2009, pg 867), in the current strategy, the need for a new strategy became apparent. The move to an activity based costing system (ABC) that will show the costs produced by each activity performed rather than the job appears to be the correct choice. Managements Installation of ABC Super Bakery Inc will benefit from the implementation of the ABC system because the costs are tracked by each account in conjunction with......

Fnancial Statement Analysis

...Financial Statements in Business Bethany Herman ACC/561 July 13, 2015 Tom Myers Financial Statements in Business Businesses review and use four primary types of financial statements to reflect their financial position. The four primary types of financial statements businesses use are the balance sheet, income statements, statements of equity, and the statement of cash flow. The financial statements used to display financial information to the public are all incorporated with showing a full financial picture of a company. Each of the four financial statements interacts with one another to give investors and the public a good insight into the overall finances of a company. “Financial statements, which are accounting reports, serve as the principal method of communicating financial information about a business entity or an individual to outside parties such as banks and investors. In a technical sense, financial statements summarize the accounting process and provide a tabulation of account titles and amounts of money. Furthermore, financial statements report the financial position or financial status of a business or an individual as well as financial changes at a particular time or during a period of time. The basic purpose of financial statements is to communicate to external and internal parties information about financial decisions that have been made.” According to (2015). The balance sheet is used to show a company’s financial......

...Costing Methods: Super Bakery, Inc. George Mancuso ACC/561 Accounting March 18, 2013 Lisa Parker Abstract Super Bakery, Inc., a virtual corporation is a supplier of mineral-, vitamin-, and protein-enriched doughnuts and other baked goods to institutional food distribution centers nationwide (Kimmel, Weygandt, & Kieso, 2009). The company has grown at an average rate of 20% annually since 1990 but persistent challenges of identifying opportunities for cost efficiency in using traditional costing methods requires new strategy. Desire for new “system that would more accurately assign the costs of each order” (Kimmel, Weygandt, & Kieso, 2009, pg. 865), Super Bakery is exploring activity-based costing (ABC) management. Super Bakery, Inc. In 1990, former Pittsburg Steeler’s player Franco Harris incorporated the Supper Bakery, a nationwide supplier of mineral-, vitamin-, and protein-enriched bakery goods to the institutional food market (Kimmel, Weygandt, & Kieso, 2009). As a virtual corporation, Super Bakery’s core business functions are maintained within the company. Other business functions such as “selling, manufacturing, warehousing, and shipping—are outsourced to a network of external companies… to add maximum value to the company while making the minimum investment in permanent staff, fixed assets, and working capital” (Kimmel, Weygandt, & Kieso, 2009, pg. 865). Currently the company is using a traditional costing method that does not identify the......

Recruiting Violations in College Athletics

...for a program known for winning national championships and boasting that it had stayed out of the N.C.A.A. doghouse” (AP, 1). Alabama is notorious for keeping their indiscretions with Compliance low profile and often escaping media attention, but clearly not in this case. In February of 2011, Ray Glier of the New York Times reported “that four days after the N.C.A.A. sent a letter to the University of Tennessee about the recruiting activities of the Men's basketball coach, Bruce Pearl, in September 2010, Pearl is alleged to have committed another recruiting violation. The university released the NCAA's official letter of allegations on Wednesday detailing the charges against Pearl and his staff, which are considered major violations and could result in sanctions, such as being barred from postseason events” (Glier, 1). Tennessee has been in trouble with the NCAA before and it will inevitably find them again, but the harsh truth at “Good Ole Rocky Top” is that no one really cares, as long as the Vols keep winning and generating revenue for the University. The aforementioned instances are just a taste of the kind of trouble SEC schools have created for themselves over the course of the last 25 years pertaining to academic and recruiting indecencies. Recruiting violations and academic misconduct on the part of University administrators are transgressions not limited to member institutions in the Southeast. These problems run rampant across America every year. A few......

...surplus regions; (5) developing more nutritious and safer foods to enhance the diets of poor people; and (6) undertaking agricultural research in ways that are more empowering to the poor. Hazell and Haddad discuss strategies for achieving each of these goals with the least trade-off in national agricultural growth. In short, Hazell and Haddad suggest strategies to target agricultural research on poor peoples’ problems in ways that are “win-win” for growth and poverty reduction. Although the rates of return to public agricultural research are known to be high, public funding for agricultural research has nevertheless declined, especially in developing countries. Yet more is being asked of agricultural research and extension systems. If new technologies and research paradigms are to be developed that specifically address the needs of the poor, then funding for international and national agricultural research must be increased. Per Pinstrup-Andersen Director General IFPRI Emil Javier Chair Technical Advisory Committee/CGIAR Foreword v The authors wish to thank Derek Byerlee, Dana Dalrymple, Alain de Janvry, Michael Lipton, and members of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) for their valuable comments received on an earlier draft.
