Family and career
There are so many things that matter in people’s life, but the most important ones are family and career. People always have a hard time to balance between each one. It’s hard to build a family relationship and also work on having a good education and career. Balancing between both will be a struggle for some people.
I want my life to be fair and balanced between my family and career. I’m single right now but for sure I’m planning on getting married in a couple of years and having kids in the future, I’m planning on having two to three kids maximum so I can provide them with a good life whether if its education wise, money wise, or family wise. In addition I want to balance between my family and give them the time they need and my career life to be a good mom who’s fair between her being a good mom and a successful women in her career.
I believe that the mindset corporate America conducive to the type of work and family because most jobs have flexible schedules. Also they have holidays off, days off some of them have their weekends off let’s not forget the vacations that most jobs have for their employee for a week or two that are already paid for. However, all this depends on what kind of a job the person is having. Let’s say doctors most likely will not be able to spend a lot of time with their families as much as a business manager who could go in anytime and leave anytime.
The United States should assist mothers and fathers during the mother’s pregnancy time. Some companies give the mother two months off work for maternity. The mother needs time to spend with her newborn and also to relax. That maternity time is for her to start balancing between doing whatever she used to do before and in addition having a new member in the family. Her time to realize that she has a new responsibility to take care of other than her house, husband, job, and relatives. She has someone who needs most of her care. I also believe the United States should assist the father too. I believe once a father is about to have a baby he should get a little raise in his career. Companies should give paternity leave too, at least for the first week the baby is born. He should be there for his wife and his newborn. The father also needs to realize the amount of money he will be spending for his newborn and the amount or responsibility the house will have. Both parents need maternity and paternity time to organize their work schedules that would help fit with taking care and giving all the care a baby needs and all the attention to their jobs so they won’t lose their positions.
Sometimes life won’t be a piece of cake for us. Some of us might have to quit jobs or school to give the care for their children. Especially the mother will most likely take off her job or her school if she’s still a student in order to start to get used to her new life. Fathers will need to double their hours they will need to earn the money for their children. I want to get a job that will help me give time for my house. I want to get married after I’m done with my education so I can get a good job that will help me get money to save up for the new life I will start and provide the needs for my family specially for my children to give them all the care, education and simply the life they want and need. I want my children to live a better life than mine. They won’t have to worry about working at a young age to earn money to spend on themselves. I will make sure that I won’t have kids unless I’m able to give them anything they ask for, I just want my kids to earn a good education so they can work for their kids too.
There should be organizations that support parents to want to combine between family and career life. I think at first both of the parents should give a notice to the company that they are expecting a baby in a specific month. The organization should work with them on how they will be working, and how many hours they will have too. Fathers should get a raise at least as support for him to work harder in the company and provide his kids with the supply they need. If the company supports the mother and the father they’ll be more supportive at work and they won’t have to look for another job that will provide them with the schedules and salary they need.
However, parents should not take advantage of the company helping them to work their life better. There should be rules on how to work and when to take off. Over all the company doesn’t want to lose their business for them trying to help their employees. Companies will always have rules for their employees to follow. It’s like giving the parents some support on their careers life but also giving them the opportunity to do their job on time. Parents should never take advantage of their companies or their jobs because it will be very easy for companies to hire new people and that would cause a big problem for parents to lose their job. Parents should always be smart and keep their job safe. That’s like having a balance on both family’s responsibility and work’s responsibility. Balancing would be easier for parents at this moment because they already had the opportunity to be next to their newborn baby and give him what he needs. In other words fathers should be eligible to balance between both his family and his work life. But it’s definitely hard for the mother to leave her newborn and return back to work, because she basically have more duties toward her newborn baby. Such as, feeding him, taking care of him, and giving him all the attention he needs.
By the end I would say that balancing between the family life and the career life is a bit hard and people would have to put more pressure on themselves for them not to lose their job. For example when a single mom finds out that she’s pregnant and she has to find a job to save up money for her kid and most of the companies won’t give her the job because they know she’s going to need a two to three months off work for pregnancy and labored time for her to take care of her newborn baby, however I hope that I can balance between both and I hope that I would marry someone who would understand that I have goals I want to achieve. Someone who is willing to support me achieve them and get even higher. Someone who will want me to balance between the both not force me to leave my job only to take care of the house and the baby. Most men will let their wives leave their jobs because they think theirs is more important. From my point of view it all comes down to both partners if they are willing to help each other and support each other they will have the balanced life between job and family. If they both understand that they have responsibility now, in the other hand they have goals they want to achieve. Having kids was never the end of our goals, it should be the reason for us to work hard and harder to achieve those goals in life and get way better because our kids will be the reason for us to success. I want my children to look up to me and my future husband and how we worked hard to get them where they will be in the future. So they will follow our footsteps and take them as a guide for them in their future life.

Regarding Old Smoke and follow the metric for this assignment described in the course syllabus. If I was Charles Renfold I would closely weigh the options and look at what other companies in my field are doing with smoking policies. Companies are passing more and more no smoking laws for employees even going as far as employees cannot smoke on the grounds of work. With these considerations I would come up with a designate smoker’s area for my smoking employees. Charles will need to consider her opinion because she is the only employee that can complete an extremely important report for the company. Charles could show his smoking employees how to complete the report for his managers. I find it disturbing personally that a company still allow employees to still smoke inside the building. Then to allow employees to air out the room by opening windows this obvious cannot be healthy for anyone involved. I feel breaks should be built into the work day to insure productivity is still kept at a maximum. Maybe two breaks and lunch for all employees. I think of the companies that are banding smoking from the entire campus how is this being handled. I would definitely build in breaks into the work day and make...

Assignment Two

...Assignment Two 1 Assignment Two Victoria Blackmon Strayer University Professor Dominique Sweeting BUS 309 November 21, 2011 Assignment One – 2 1) Explain how you would handle this situation if you were Charles Renfold? I would ask Darlene to come back into my office. I would politely remind her that she had a job to do and regardless of our personal feelings about smoking we had work that had to be completed. I would also remind Darlene that her feelings would be considered and let her know I intend to find a solution that will satisfy everyone which included scheduling a meeting with the department to address the issue. After that conversation, I would ask for Darlene’s patience while I work with everyone through the issue. I would mention some of the things I plan to do in the short term while we reach a permanent solution. I would also mention to Darlene that maybe the approach she took toward me as her supervisor may not have been the best choice. I would not necessarily reprimand her for being insubordinate to me at that moment because I would not want Darlene to feel like I was threatening her but it would be noted in my file on her to be discussed at review time when the tension may not be as high as it is now. I would offer suggestions to Darlene on obtaining the files needed to complete the report like getting...

..."Old Smoke" Case 8.4 Michael A. Kidd Professor Jane Bolduc Osburn Business Ethics – BUS 309 February 20, 2012   Explain how you would handle this situation if you were Charles Renfold. When we look at this scenario, I can only imagine how many times this same situation happens in workplaces all over the world. For Charles Renfold, handling the situation will require tact, understanding, and patients. Now, if I were in Charles’s position, I would begin by sympathetically acknowledging Darlene’s concerns and grievances, giving complete understanding and validation to her ill and nauseating feeling from the bad odor of old cigarette smoke. Letting her also know that I understand completely when working in an uncomfortable environment, especially those with offensive sights, sounds, and smells, it can be quite a hindrance to complete tasks and assignments in a timely manner and with proficiency. As her supervisor, I would look into trying to provide an alternative work space then that of the environment with the bad smell, and even though Frank and Alice have been trying to air out the room, I would also explore the possibilities of providing better ventilation in the small confined areas. Reminding Darlene that yes the company is aware of the states law about providing a ‘smoke-free’ work area for those non-smokers who desire it, I would ask Darlene to try and understand the difficulty...

...Assignment 2: Project Paper Maria Kemp Professor Broadway Lithonia Campus Bus 309-Business Ethics 12/18/2014 Strayer University My first child was born on March 18th 1990, I knew then that my family and raising my child was my number one priority. You see, I grew up in a home where my mother worked over sixty hours a week and we (her children) were known as “latch key kids”. We were expected to come home from school every day and lock the doors and stay inside out of the neighbor’s sight until my mother came home, which was later that evening sometime after 7 pm. Growing up in this environment taught me the being without parental supervision can and did get me and by three brothers into a lot of trouble. I decided if I ever had children I would devote my time and attention to helping them develop their minds, spending quality time with them, exposing them to different cultures and museums and being an active part of their upbringing. Please do not misunderstand me; my mother was a good mother, who loved her children and would do anything for them, but some of the things we did as young children I know it was because we were home alone and wanted to just experiment. So in July of 1990, four months after my first son was born, I took a job as an Administrative Assistant for a Nursing Home Facility. My starting salary was $32,000 a year. I was excited about my new position. Shortly after my ninety days was up, I was asked to work every other Saturday and then it became...

When I say that Sullivan is “student success focused,” I feel as President that I owe a definition of this statement to all who are considering Sullivan University. First, Sullivan is unique among institutions of higher education with its innovative, career-first curriculum. You can earn a career diploma or certificate in a year or less and then accept employment while still being able to complete your associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree by attending during the day, evenings, weekends, or online. Yet most institutions of higher education operate on a nine-month school year with almost everyone graduating in May. We remained focused on your success and education, and continue to offer our students the opportunity to begin classes or to graduate four times a year with our flexible, year-round full-time schedule of classes.
