The "business case for diversity" curtails from the development of the replica of diversity within the workplace since 1960's. The inventive model for diversity was positioned around affirmative action drawing strength from the law and a need to act in accordance with equal employment opportunity objectives. This observance based model conferred to the thought that tokenism was the reason; an individual was hired into a company when they differed from the dominant group. Business Intelligence Applications

...What Is Business Intelligence? Business intelligence has become a critical element of information technology. It’s an old term with general or even ambiguous meaning. It has been used synonymously with decision support, analysis, and data warehousing, but today business intelligence has a more specific definition and a better understood application. Taken literally, business intelligence is just that—intelligence or understanding of your business. You get that understanding by analyzing your business operations. That analysis is accomplished by collecting the information that represents your marketing, sales, and service activities, the behavior of your customers in responding to these activities, and the behavior of your internal systems and your suppliers’ systems in responding to your customers’ behavior. Once you have collected this information, and its collection is a continuous process, not a one-time event, you organize and store it in a manner to facilitate its access, processing, and presentation through a broad range of techniques including, reporting, query and analysis, OLAP, and data mining. Finally, you use the results of applying these techniques to improve your business operations and start the analysis cycle all over again. This business intelligence process can deliver significant, bottom-line results. Implementing its technologies and applying its process can help make your business more effective and more efficient, increasing revenue, decreasing costs...

...Business Intelligence Applications Paul Villela CSCI 4304:Database Systems Dr. Carolyn W. Green 2 December 2014 Business Intelligence Applications On the May 4th, 2014 episode of Mad Men (appropriately entitled “The Monolith”, a clever nod to the iconic black monolith which provides the impetus for the evolutionary leap from beast to man in Arthur C Clarke’s novel “2001: A Space Odyssey”) Sterling Cooper & Partners, the fictional ad agency around which the show revolves, purchases and installs a brand new IBM 360 computer. While the vast majority of the office greets the massive, expensive machine with much apprehension (“What man lay on his back counting stars and thought about a number?” asks Don Draper, head of the Creative Department (played by John Hamm)) (Stevenson, 2014), Senior Partner and visionary Jim Cutler (played by Harry Hamlin) understands the power and potential of just such a machine, particularly in the field of advertising. Sterling Cooper & Partners gain an edge that their competition would not have for several more years, as well as a service they can offer their customers, one many of whom would not provide for themselves for even longer. What Jim Cutler was envisioning was a strategic idea currently referred to as Business Intelligence. A Brief History of Business Intelligence The concept of Business Intelligence (BI) began as a direct descendent of an information system called the Decision Support System (DSS), a system used for complex...

Business School Application Essay

...Contribution and Diversity Questions Your background, experiences, and values will enhance and diversify Kellogg. How? (1-2 double-spaced pages) The Darden School seeks a diverse and unique entering class of future managers. How will your distinctiveness enrich our learning environment and enhance your prospects for success as a manager? Every essay question on the admissions application is geared toward the same thing. Committee members want to find out who you are, what makes you different from everyone else, and how you will contribute to the school if accepted. This question asks these things outright. Because it asks so directly what the admissions committee wants to know, this is one of the most common questions you will find. The question has a structure similar to the Why M.B.A.? question. It asks both Why us? and Why you? However, the nature of this question lends itself to a more personal response. Whereas the Why M.B.A.? question asks what you have done, what you want to do, and how that relates to the school, this question asks about who you are and how it relates to the school. The Why M.B.A.? question asks about your experiences, and this question asks about your qualities. Just as you brainstormed about your experiences, actions, and goals for the first question, brainstorm about your qualities and characteristics for this one. What sets you apart from everyone else? What words do friends and family use to describe you? For some people, the focus...

Effective Application of 3p Is Operating Model Leads to Value Addition to Business

...stakeholders in order to exist in the market. In such a situation, Information Systems of a company is highly expected to add value to business. Business Value means all forms of value that determine the health and well-being of the business firm in the long run (WikiPedia). Such value addition is not easily or freely achieved without huge effective and efferent effort. Some IS organization often gives huge effort to achieve excellence or to add value to business by only aligning IS Strategy to Business or preparing IS strategic plan or adapting of any IS governance / management framework/ ISO standards like CoBIT5, ITIL 3, ISO 27000/ 20000. But such approach is NOT often enough for value addition where there is almost non-existance of IS governance or related operating model. That is why, KPMG rightly stated “Many organizations either do not possess any form of IS Governance or it is out of alignment with business goals and strategies.” – IT Advisory article titled IS Governance Services, KPMG 2004. I have similar personal realization while I fortunately worked in 6 different organizations as CIO, VP, Director and Manager of IT in Telecommunication, IT Enabled services and Humanitarian industries. I observed that there are 3 types of enablers (factors that, individually and collectively, influence whether something will work – Cobit5: A Business Framework for the Governance and Management of Enterprise IT, 2012) in IS operation. Either one of them - People or/and IS Process...

...Owning and running a business has always been my dream. I always had a strong conviction that I would start my own business and run it successfully. My parents had tried this before but, they had failed due to poor managerial tactics. To overcome those certain pitfalls, I realized the need to find out the best business solution methods and avoid the path that my parents went through. However, I never imagined that I would study business in one of the best business schools in America. The idea of joining an American University occurred to me when I was admitted into the 2012 Harvard College Summit for Young Leaders in China. This event was an eye opener and prompted me through a series of discoveries of the American culture and education system. After a thorough analysis of the American’s way of life and their education, I was convinced that this is where I would perfect my business skills and prepare myself for my career business. The behavioral features that interested me most about the American students is their innovativeness, independence, open-mindedness, and their ability to work as a team. These are some of the skills that really impressed me, and, which, I thought would go a long way in enhancing my chances for starting and running a business. During the HCSYLC event, I invited two Harvard students to choreograph a dance that was quite successful. We related quite well and the experience I had with those two gave me an insight on how intelligent and innovative they were...

...Examining the Application Business Ethics and Laws in the Tobacco Industry Abstract “Ethics is not something exterior to the economy…rather, ethics is and interior principle of the economy itself, which cannot function if it does not take account of the human values of solidarity and reciprocal responsibility.” (Pope Benedict XVI) I agree with Pope Benedict. Organizations use the process to plan, acquire, analyze, and disseminate insights to guide their business decisions with the ultimate goal of maximizing business performance (Cooper & Schindler, 2006). All organizations, no matter how large or how small, will use business research at some level. The purpose of this paper is to discuss how research is used in the wind energy business in relation to developing and building wind farms. Business Research in Wind Energy A good research initiative is valuable to the success of any organization. In the wind energy business several major components must be considered in the building of a wind farm. Strong wind is an endless natural resource to be transformed into capital for both an individual landowner as well as for the wind company. However, before development of a wind farm can be undertaken, the company must first find a windy site and determine if the site has nearby transmissions lines. Once wind and transmission is determined, the value to landowners and the value to governments and local communities must be ascertained and brought to those groups. A wind project will not be successful without the buy-in from the local government, the community, and the landowners. ...Business Application Discussion Board A transformational leader is a leader that can invokes a change in individuals and social systems (Kendrick, 2011). Being a great transformational leader requires a leader to understand their position, gain trust from their followers, and importantly not abuse their power. There is no greater business to run than the United States of America. John. F. Kennedy may be one of the most famous transformational leaders in American history. He was able to inspire people to do more and be more. As a great transformation leader President Kennedy was able to demonstrate remarkable flexibility and resourcefulness (Hammer, 2006). John F. Kennedy first displayed his transformational leadership when he was an officer in the United States Navy. During World War II his PT boat was cut in half and he helped save the lives of many of his crew members (Day, 2011). One of the most famous quotes from a transformational leader came in President Kennedy’s first moments as President of the United States. In his 1961 inaugural address President Kennedy spoke to all Americans when he said, “And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” This set the tone for his leadership style from the beginning (Alta, 2012). Another example of President Kennedy’s transformational leadership style was how he handled America advancing in space exploration (Gliem and Janack, 2008). He promised America...
