The plot of Girls in the game, is very interesting because she’s doing everything that a dumb girl would do just to keep someone around. I find it interesting because I know people in the real world who acts just like her when it comes down to trapping a man for money. In the book she she said ‘’ for the chicks it’s a game of chase: Everybody’s after the nigga with money or chasing after their deadbeat baby daddy.’’ In the story Tiara was a nineteen year old single mom who thought if she trapped her babies father he would stay around. Tiara was a ghetto stripper trying to get money to support her and her son. Before her son she was able to wear a jeans and a tight fitted shirt but it then got replaced with sweatpants and oversized T-shirts.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Bookreport

...parties and much more. This report starts with a summary of the book, descriptively introducing the prime characters and setting while leading to the conclusion At first, we’re introduced to Charlie the protagonist, who seems to be a rather smart, yet troubled boy. He’s 15 years of age and a recently freshman in High School. The novel is written in letters, starting with Charlie sending out letters to an anonymous receiver, while only giving his first name, to also remain unknown. Charlie doesn’t have many friends, considerably due to his major intellect compared to the other kids. He had a friend named Michael, who unfortunately killed himself for a reason Charlie didn’t know. He actually wondered a lot how Michael could avoid talking to him about his problem, which surely must’ve had a huge impact on his mental state of mind. Charlie and Michael used to do sports together, just to have something to do, not because they urged to, but because there wasn’t much for them elsewhere. Now, Charlie is pretty much alone and as for girls, Charlie doesn’t really know how to communicate with them either. The first person for Charlie to really talk to is a senior named Patrick who people calls “Nothing”. He gets to sit with Patrick and his stepsister Sam, who he later gets a major crush on. They all went to a diner where Charlie finds out, that Patrick is gay, but he’s truly honest about it. Patrick is the funny guy and Sam is the beautiful and smart girl, while Charlie has his charming...

Impact Of Jim Crow Laws In To Kill A Mockingbird

...In the book her father Atticus is a lawyer in the small town of Maycomb Alabama, he takes up a case in which a black man (Tom Robinson) is accused of raping a white woman Mayella Ewell. The Ewells are considered the some of the poorest and least mannered people of Maycomb however they still has an advantage over Tom because she is white and he is black. If Tom lost he would be given the death penalty. Atticus presented an immense amount of evidence against the Ewells however, in the end he lost and was killed trying to escape from prison. This just goes to show how unjust the system was at the time. Jim Crow Laws made it impossible for a man of color to win against a white man because of the laws set in place, if a black man touches a white woman he runs the risk of being charged with rape and in the end the everything the white woman says has to be the truth because there is a law that says the word of a white person is greater than that of a colored man. What makes it all worse is that there was no direct evidence to go against mayella's claim of the rape but there was so much going against the fact that Tom was the one who raped her. For instance Tom had a crippled hand and no official doctored report states that she was raped the only thing to imply that she was raped was the fact that she was covered in bruises aside from this no official doctor's note was given. Despite the fact that his is just a book it depicts a very real subject matter...

Gender Roles in Disney Movies

...Gender Roles in Disney Movies It is undeniable that the company that is leading to many generations in their child age is Disney. Who does not remember Mickey and Minnie Mouse?, Who has not thrown a tear when Snow White was poisoned by the evil witch?, Who did not want to ever be in the place of handsome John Smith or Pocahontas herself to revive their love story?, that tender these films, is not it, for example the Little Mermaid and Sebastian the crab song, who does not remember that song from "under the sea”? Has anybody ever wondered why the dwarves themselves did not do the housework when they came home once Snow White "moved in" with them? Or why an Indian as Pocahontas, falls for a murderer of thousands of his countrymen as was John Smith? Or why witches are always bad? Or why women are always in the background in these films (Hubka, Hovdestad & Tonmyr, 2009)? The world of Disney Princess began in 1937 when Snow White entered the world with the Seven Dwarfs (McRobbie, 2008). Since then it continued to add princesses in this world and the most recent movie was Tangled (Rapunzel) in 2011. In the past years, due to the lack of portraying ethnicity, Disney movie makers were highly criticized by their audience. Therefore, Pocahontas appeared in 1995 and after three years in 1998 came Mulan, which created a racially diverse collection of Disney princesses. After a decade The Princess and the Frog was released in 2009. It is important to understand that Disney plays an important...

The Short Story Charles

...Laurie knows how to cheat the system. Laurie is a loud, rambunctious, naughty kindergartener blind to his parent’s eyes. When his behavior becomes a problem in class Laurie blames it on Charles…a figure of his imagination. Laurie proceeds to home, telling his parents how Charles was disruptive in class, not even mentioning his own bad behavior. Once his parents hear bout Charles he becomes and institution in the household. Laurie seems to know too much about Charles to only know him from school. In the text it stated, “Did Charles tell the little girl to say that?’ he asked respectfully. ‘She said it twice,’ Laurie said. ‘Charles told her to say it twice.” When I was reading the story the first time, I didn’t recognize there was more importance to that passage. When I read it the first time, I thought it was just another conversation between Laurie and his father. However, Laurie couldn’t have known that Charles told the little girl to say the appalling word twice. Another example of how Laurie seems to know a lot about Charles is when he said, “Because she tried to make him color with red crayons,’ Laurie said. ‘Charles wanted to color with green crayons so he hit the teacher and she spanked him and said nobody play with Charles but everyone did.” Yet again, how could Laurie have known Charles wanted to color with a different colored crayon. The irony of the situation was that Laurie’s parents thought Charles would be a bad influence on their faultless son when...

Choosing Oralism or Deaf Culture for a Hearing-Disabled Child of Hearing Parents

...Introduction When a child is diagnosed as deaf, parents are faced with a critical decision to make in the first few years of their child’s life. Deafness as defined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), means “ a hearing impairment that is so severe that the child is impaired in processing linguistic information through hearing, with or without amplification, that adversely affects a child's educational performance” (34 Code of Federal Regulations [section]300.8[c][3] [2013]). Parents can choose to either communicate with the child in English, the major language of society, or teach the child manual language such as ASL and become a part of the Deaf culture. This decision is especially hard for parents to make who were never exposed to the non-hearing world before, and see deafness as a medical problem that needs to be fixed. This can become critical for the child’s future years and development as a person in the society since the child will always be viewed and judged as different. It is mandated that each child with a disability will be viewed individually to make the best decision in how to treat and help the child. The oral approach, audism, is a method in which children learn to use whatever residual hearing they have, in combination with lip-reading and contextual cues. The children will also thus use an auditory approach, in which they receive amplification devices to correct their hearing and to make use of the residual hearing they have as much...

Critical Essay by Steven Kaplan

...Before the United States became militarily involved in defending the sovereignty of South Vietnam, it had to, as one historian recently put it, "invent" the country and the political issues at stake there. The Vietnam War was in many ways a wild and terrible work of fiction written by some dangerous and frightening story tellers. First the United States decided what constituted good and evil, right and wrong, civilized and uncivilized, freedom and oppression for Vietnam, according to American standards; then it traveled the long physical distance to Vietnam and attempted to make its own notions about these things clear to the Vietnamese people—ultimately by brute, technological force. For the U.S. military and government, the Vietnam that they had in effect invented became fact. For the soldiers that the government then sent there, however, the facts that their government had created about who was the enemy, what were the issues, and how the war was to be won were quickly overshadowed by a world of uncertainty. Ultimately, trying to stay alive long enough to return home in one piece was the only thing that made any sense to them. As David Halberstam puts it in his novel, One Very Hot Day, the only fact of which an American soldier in Vietnam could be certain was that "yes was no longer yes, no was no longer no, maybe was more certainly maybe." Almost all of the literature on the war, both fictional and nonfictional, makes clear that the only certain thing during the Vietnam War...

Isu Journal

...Plot: This book starts off in the Central London Hatching and Conditioning center, where the Director of the hatchery and his assistant, Henry Ford, are giving a tour of the facilities to a group of young boys. The Director explains to the students the process of Bokanovsky and Podsnap by which humans are grown inside bottles and then conditioned/brainwashed to believe the moral “truths” that the World state wants to implant in them. This conditioning, also known as hypnopaedia or sleep-teaching, instructs the citizens to believe in the value of society over the individual. Each person exists to serve the community. It’s their job to be consumers and workers, which in turn keeps the economy stable and strong. Buy lots of clothes. Use lots of transportation. For example they use electrical shocks o young children to make them afraid of books and flowers, this allows the government to install fear of knowledge and nature in the society. To assure the stability of the society, the bottles are divided into castes: the alphas, Betas, Gammas, Deltas and Epsilons. The alpha embryos are the highest cast for they are designed to become the leaders and thinkers of the world state, they are smart, tall, and muscular. Epsilons are the total opposite; they are short, dumb, and ugly. The government implies that the best way to keep non-Alphas stupid is to give them dangerous substances, such as alcohol and oxygen deprivation, while they’re still in the test tube. Epsilons are also grown in...

We were in a situation where we were losing the annual equivalent of my take home pay to income tax. Our rent was significantly more than what we would be paying if we bought a starter house or condo. I did the numbers and buying looked good and we qualified for a mortgage. "Why do we have to buy a house? I don't see why we should worry about the government taking our money, after all, they do good things with it, right?" I am not joking. This is almost exactly what he said. My mouth was agape. I filed for divorce soon after that conversation. And if he did something dumb, guess who got to clean up his mess? Yes, yes, yes, it is VERY important in a relationship. To the second part of the question: I have to say I was young when I married, so I was looking for a nice guy who treated me well. I didn't think much about intellectual compatability. I believe I was too young to realize...

...ROLE OF NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR WOMEN IN PROTECTION AND EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN: AN EVALUATION Subject title: Family Law- I Submitted to: Dr. Anju Tyagi Submitted by: Aratrika Das Class/Year/Semester: IInd year III semester Roll: 16LLB12 2013 National Law University, Delhi Chapter I: Introduction It is often said that the status and position of women in society is the best way to understand a civilisation, its progress and its shortcomings. In case of India, women have come a long way from women sages and scholars in the Rig Vedic period to women in the armed forces, IT sector, politics, industry and other significant areas while balancing their role as a daughter, wife and mother. This journey towards modernization has not been easy. Women have had to fight the traditional Indian male-dominated society to emerge as stronger and independent entities. While all these are positive developments, cases of rape, harassment at workplace and dowry deaths are rampant. Illiteracy and ignorance about their rights are still prevalent among a majority of the women. It was in this background that the Committee on the Status of Women in India (CSWI ) recommended nearly two decades ago, the setting up of a National Commission for Women to fulfil the surveillance functions to facilitate redressal of grievances and to accelerate the socio-economic development of women. The National Commission for women (NCW) is a statutory body for women established in 1992 by Government of India under...
