Mmo Addiction; Fact of Fiction?

...the many different desires of people. A question has arisen because of the popularity of these games – should people be concerned with the addictive nature of these designs? In an MMO, a person plays a character or avatar of their own design, within the limits of the game, and logs into a server where hundreds or thousands of other people are logged in at the same time. Sometimes people work together and sometimes they work against each other, but it’s always a social environment. MMOs have moved gaming from a pastime to a lifestyle. Many players dedicate their lives and all of their spare time to playing. Unfortunately there have been many negative repercussions because of how much time people dedicate to these games. There’s a history of problems commonly associated with other addictions, from families falling apart all the way to the deaths of players of MMOs. There is a real concern of how playing MMOs can impact people’s lives. To understand this problem, you have to look at what allures gamers to this style of video game. Many people look for ways to escape the monotony of their day to day lives, whether it’s losing oneself in a book, getting lost in the drama of a hit television show or logging into their favorite online game. MMOs are based on the entire premise of reinventing yourself as someone or something completely different than what you are in real life. The player becomes something...

Some sites accommodate distinct viewers, while others attract people based on similarities, such as common languages or shared racial, sexual, religious or nationality-based identities. ...INTRODUCTION TO MACROECONOMICS E202 $ ¥ Dr. David A. Dilts Department of Economics Doermer School of Business and Management Sciences Indiana-Purdue University-Fort Wayne June 1, 1993 Revisions: May 1994, December 1995, July 1996, November, 2000, May 2003, May 2006 PREFACE This Course Guide was developed in part because of the high cost of college textbooks, and in part, to help organize students’ studying by providing lecture notes together with the reading assignments. This Guide is provided to the student online at the Department of Economics website. Jayla Heller, the Department’s secretary has been kind enough to go through all of the frustration and hard work to put the guide in the appropriate format and put it online. To her goes my gratitude. The department, neither school, nor the professor make anything whatsoever from this Guide. In fact, the department’s budget and the professor’s own resources are used in the writing of the Guide, and the numerous draft copies that are produced in the revisions of this document. Like the sign in the Mom and Pop bait shop on Big Barbee Lake says, “This is a non-profit organization, wasn’t planned to be – it just worked out that way.” Well, actually it was planned to be a non-profit enterprise in this case. The professor also wishes to acknowledge the fact that several students have proposed changes, improvements, caught errors, and helped to make this document more useful as a learning tool. Naturally, any errors of......

Furthermore, nations have been known to use mega events such as the Olympic Games, FIFA World Cup, and World Fair to rebuild image and draw in tourists to serve the economic development of the region. While the Olympics are one of the most studied mega events, most of them emphasise on the Western perspective probably because only three out of twenty-six Summer Games have been held in Asia. The most recent one is the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which is the focus of this research. In particular, this study aims to explore China’s image change after the event and the influencing factors that contribute to the change. One’s perception and image change are emotional and subjective; therefore, this research can gain a better insight through qualitative approach. Twenty participants from sixteen countries were recruited and interviewed for 20-30 minutes regarding the Beijing Olympics and related news around that time. The findings showed that China achieved moderate success in rebuilding its image in the economic and technological aspects. Many interviewees were impressed by its organising ability and modernisation. However, China failed to change its image through the Olympics when human rights violations and media policies were concerned. It was still perceived as a country that persecuted dissentients and suppressed......
