Employee Portfolio: Management Plan Summary
When giving assessments at work, one of the most important areas a manager/employer must look at is the emotional state of the employee that is working for them. Many changes at work can have major emotional influence on an employee when unexpected (Lancaster, 1998). Things, such as hiring, firing, promotions, demotions, as well as just a change in what area they work in can take effect on them, not including whatever they are feeling outside the company that may be brought in (Lancaster, 1998). After taking a detailed look at the results of the assessments the manager noticed that each person has their strengths and weaknesses that are positive and may need some work.
Lamar Fry has many strengths. He is an overall confident person, with great enthusiasm, who believes in himself and the work that he produces for a company. This is a positive for the company because they need individuals who are not scared to work and believe in themselves as well as showing positivity. He is also aware of his surroundings. Caring for people and their emotions as well as being aware of his own shows great empathy for others. Making sure that he is a deliberate thinker is another one of his strong assets. His strengths show that he is capable of becoming a leader, making serious decisions as well as getting along on team assignments. His weaknesses he lacks encouragement is when dealing with certain job positions, may not be understanding of other’s emotions and may make rash decisions and needs to be careful of what he says. He should be recommended to take “What affects my emotions?”. Terrence Johnson is by far the best out of the three. His strengths are he is a responsible employee who knows how to make proper decisions. He can complete a task without getting distracted, able to keep emotions under control, positive person and thinks rationally. His weaknesses are that he can become unmotivated at times, even though he will get the job done, it just won’t be a happy experience at the present time. Has an issue with showing his own emotions and cannot comprehend other emotions as well. Can be a little demanding and can act on a whim from time to time. His characteristics show that he can be a team leader, even a manager or supervisor who will get the job done. He can motivate others to do their job well and keep everyone in check. He can work on teams, but expect no excuses. He should take an assessment on “When do I show emotions?”.
Kathryn Earl had some good strengths in her assessment. She is an independent person and confident in what she does. One she finds meaning in her job position; she can become happy with what she does for a living. She is also a very caring individual who not only cares about herself, but others as well. She is persistent and makes big decisions when necessary. Her weaknesses are showing negativity or dissatisfaction for what it is that she is doing that she does not like to do at that point in time. She lacks confidence and has little emotions. She can act on a whim, can be demanding and once she is unhappy, it is hard to get her out of that feeling. She is also rash at making certain decisions and can say anything she feels without watching what she says from time to time.
She is better working alone rather than on a team. She would be good with working with customers, but she would not be good at working on teams. She should take an assessment on “What interests me?”. According to Stempinski (2011), “Negativity thrives when people expect a logical explanation to a situation that doesn't have a logical explanation” (Staying positive at work it may not be as hard as you think, Para. 4). She needs to realize that things will not be perfect every day at work, but instead find something that is loveable and make that a part of her everyday routine. It may not be much, but it is a start.

Mgt 311 Employee Portfolio Motivation Summary

...Employee Portfolio: Motivation Plan of Action Summary MGT/311 Employee Portfolio: Motivation Plan of Action Summary Motivation plays an important role when it pertains to professional development in employees. The management team at Riordan Manufacturing is currently in week three of an assessment period of three employees. The purpose of these assessments has been to try to understand the employees’ state of emotion, characteristic traits, and job engagement. Week three focuses on motivational techniques and a plan of action that is specifically designed for each employee evaluated based on the employee self-assessment survey taken two weeks earlier. Personality Traits It has been documented in these assessments that just because an employee is unhappy with his or her current job state do not necessarily mean that he or she does not show a sense of pride in the work to be completed. Laura, for example displayed dissatisfaction with her current job state and the wages, but given a task to complete, this employee dedicates a great deal of her time to ensure that the project is completed in detail as well as on time. Linda is a devoted employee who shows management that she is a self-starter and often completes tasks without requiring direction to do so. The issue management has with this is often the task gets started and completed without added guidance if needed. Olivia, though improving, has shown supervisors contempt toward...

Management Plan

...Employee Portfolio: Management Plan Barbara Mozley February 17, 2014 MGT/311 Organizational Development Steve Broe Employee Portfolio: Management Plan In this summary I will discuss how the series of self-assessments results employees had taken to aid myself in how to manage the employee’s better. With the assessments I have received back from the employee’s, I need to create an Employee Portfolio for each of the employees to help guide in developing ways to best manage them. How might these three employees characteristics affect the performance of the organization and are there any recommendations for additional assessments[?] All in all I believe these three employees’ characteristics have a positive effect on the performance of the organization and are self-motivated, self-actualized employee, and the employee who needs close supervision is when management can provide an environment in which the employee’s enjoy what they do and feel like they have a purpose and have pride in their work. One thing I did notice though is that management does need to help the workers to develop skills for better work performance as well as to be able to advance in the company. Also management needs to give employee's a clear sense of direction of what their job scope is and have a clear picture of what work needs to been done. Management needs to...

Employee Portfolio

...Employee Portfolio: Management Plan Sharon MGT/311 August 18, 2013 Employee Portfolio: Management Plan Performance in an organization is important to the running of a successful business. Three employees at Riordan Manufacturing were given the Pearson Prentice Hall Self-Assessment to evaluate their skills, abilities, and interests. All three employees scored a 65 when asked how satisfied they are with their job. This low number may indicate that they have a negative genetic predisposition towards life. Not surprisingly, each employee hit the median range of 35 when asked if they were engaged in their job. When a person scores high in this range, it usually means that they are more satisfied with their job and the commitment to their job. Emotions that people experience have an influence on his or her behavior in an organization. In general, people and organizations benefit from positive emotions. Both positive and negative emotions can be contagious. Displaying positive emotions around others can put them in a good mood, while displaying negative emotions around others can put others in a bad mood (Robbins, 2008). Due to scoring on the lower side of being satisfied with their jobs and the median range with their engagement, it is possible that these three employees could represent a negative impact on the performance of the organization. All three employees have a high emotional intelligence which affects self-awareness, self-management, self-motivation, empathy, and...

...Jessica Boyd Week 3 Employee Portfolio: Motivation Action Plan April 21, 2014 Susan Mills Employee Portfolio: Motivation Action Plan One of the most important aspects of a supervisor’s job it to ensure that his/her employees are happy and satisfied with their career. Motivation is defined “as the process that accounts for an individual’s intensity, direction, and persistence of effort toward attaining a goal” (Robbins & Judge, 2011). In the motivation plan that follows there are several different motivational theories that have been chosen for the three employees at Riordan Manufacturing which will be used in the effort to increase performance within the company. Samuel Boyd– Goal Setting Theory After reviewing the self-assessment survey taken by Samuel Boyd, there are many motivational theories that could be used; however the theory that will produce the best results for him is the goal-setting Theory. Samuel’s assessment indicates that he is willing to try new things but allows personal or professional setbacks to keep him from going after his ambitions. In order to motivate him management will use the reward system which will connect to the goal-setting theory and making sure his is setting obtainable, realistic goals. This will motivate him and encourage him to continue to strive for more out of his career. It is management’s understanding that Mr. Boyd has set unrealistic goals in the past which is the main reason for his frustrations and ultimately giving up on...
