According to Liebler and McConnell (2012), “Preceding the development of a job description, there should be a thorough job analysis that serves as a single source for the various uses to be made of information concerning a specific job” (p.155). In my observation of the Public Health County Director job description, I notice that general structure didn’t start with the summary description until after the minimum qualification. I felt like the future applicants would like to see first, the summary of the job description; and then goes into the job duties, minimum qualifications, and other job factors. As Fried and Fottler (2015) suggested, “Excellent job descriptions are of value to both the employee and the employer” (p.154). In the job overview, …show more content…
Key accountability determines an accurate percentage of time the incumbent should be spending on over the course of the year. Therefore, it would have been wise for the employer to provide and performance standard sections or added into the work activities; which would have conveyed the expectations of the job, depicts the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to be successful in the job. Also, provides the basis for measuring performance. “Some combination of available job analysis methods (observation, interview, questionnaires, job performance, diary, technical competency, competency model, and electronic or Web-based methods) should be used because all have advantages and disadvantages” (Fried & Fottler, 2015, p.171). A minimum qualification was not listed under a “job factors section,” but still falls in that particular category. Since the job factors section of the job description outlines the knowledge and skills required to successfully function I the job. The online job description, there was a “benefits tab” that showed what type of extra incentives the employee would be offer, such as insurance and annual leave (basis on full-time employee, sick leave, bereavement, family medical leave, and etc…), which was wonderful to know about. I see this as a benefit to the employer because this would help in having a larger range of recruitment and retention. I know for any employee it would be great to see, that an employer foster or contributes to overall compliance with legal, regulatory, contractual and accrediting mandates, which is serves as a basis for determining exemption or inclusion under provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and collective bargaining
