Murder has always been a part of life. Although normally when we hear about it , the murderer is an Adult. However for some it becomes a taboo subject to accept that there are Juveniles who commit heinous murder as well. It becomes even more challenging when deciding what consequences the Juvenile will face. It is crucial to understand that there can be many factors that play into a role which might influence the murder the Juvenile has committed. In other words, Juveniles should not be treated as adults and thus possibly given a life sentence . Many elements of the juvenile should be taken into context. That however was not the case for 79 young adolescents who were sentenced to die in prison. Gail Garinger states in the article “ Juveniles Don’t Deserve Life sentences” that “ These children were told that they could never change and that no one cared what became of them. They were denied access to education and rehabilitation programs and left without help or hope”. Denying access to juveniles who most likely want to recuperate, the Juvenile system endorses that no one deserves a second chance. The fact that there are adults out there who only received minimal sentences is unfair to those juveniles who being trialed as adults because they aren’t being given the same opportunity in life as supposed to Adults. A teen who was convicted of burglary was sentenced to prison 25 years to life. Rather than another teen who killed 12 people at his school along with another friend. By imprisoning these teens into adult population prisons this increases the chances of them being raped or abused both mentally and physically. Let’s suppose a juvenile has already been physically abused or mentally abused because of their home environment, why would putting them through a harsh environment help them ? What purpose would it serve? People who go to prison are there to receive consequences for their mistakes not brutal punishment. Punishment will only give juveniles less of a chance for hope. The justice system can be unfair many times. This is one of those cases.
