Assignment 3.1

1. Describe how would you develop and implement a strategic leadership model for performance excellence in an organization? Why should managers invest in the time to learn many of the tools presented in this module? Provide examples.

2. What is design failure mode and effect analysis (DFMDA)? Provide a simple example illustrating the concept.

3. How would you use and recommend the Seven Management and Planning Tools and statistical thinking in your current job?

4. Explain how creativity and innovation is embodied in the various tools and approaches described in this module.

Support Activities 3.1

How would you use and recommend Porter’s model of competitive advantage to the company you are working for?

For Further Thought 3.1 1. What principles of the In Search of Excellence Program would you implement in the company you currently work for or in your current or future business?

Self-Assessment 3.1

1. Why are action plans important in strategy deployment?

...1. Tables 1 through 5 contain the financial information describing the effects of level production on inventory, cash flow, loan balances, and interest expense. Reproduce these tables if Tim's suggestion were implemented; that is, change the Production This Month column in Table 2 from 400 each month to 150, 75, 25, and so on, to match Sales in the next column. Then recompute the remainder of Table 2, and Tables 3, 4, and 5 based on the new production numbers. Beginning inventory is still 400 units. Beginning cash is still $125,000 and that remains the minimum required balance. This is done on the attached excel file. 2. Given that Gale Force is charged 12 percent annual interest (1 percent a month) on its cumulative loan balance each month (Table 5), how much would Tim's suggestion save in interest expense in a year? The original interest amount is $254,250. With the new production, based on sales, the interest amount comes to $50,750. Savings in interest is $203,500 3. Up until now, we have not considered any inefficiencies that have been introduced as a result of going from level to seasonal production. Assume that there is an added expense for each sales dollar of .5 percent (.005). Based on this fact and the information computed in question 2, is seasonal production justified? The additional expense comes to $72,000 and the total interest comes to $51,924 ( due to more borrowing due to additional expense). The total expense is $123,924. The original interest...

Organizational Behavior

...individual interacts on a daily basis. These ideas can be good or bad but either way it affects how we act towards people and ourselves. In some cases we have to take a step back and analyze the reasons why we act the way we do. There are ways we can do this by writing how we feel down, having someone analyze us, or taking surveys. The LSI survey is a way we can see where we fit in amongst other individuals. This survey helps assess our personality characteristics and other traits according to how we interact in society. I took the survey to see where my personality traits rate with other people. I will go over the results and how a person can learn and change from them. The LSI survey is a circle that is broken in many parts. There are 3 areas that the circle is broken into which are satisfaction needs, task orientation, and security needs. The primary part is the satisfaction needs whereas the backup tells you what causes these traits. When it comes to the scoring of the survey I had my highest in the constructive styles 1, 2, 11, and 12. These help with self-enhancing thinking and behavior that causes satisfaction. Number 1 is the humanistic encouraging The Humanistic-Encouraging scale measures our interest in people, our tendency to care about others, and our ability to encourage them to improve.
