My Goals and My Path to Achieve Them

A truly self-directed, intrinsically motivated, active learner is a person that possesses certain attributes. Jeff Cobb, a writer for Mission to Learn, attempts to categorize these attributes into 15 aspects of a self-directed, intrinsically motivated, active learner. Cobb lists the following as key aspects; “Takes initiative, is comfortable with independence, is persistent, accepts responsibility, views problems as challenges-not obstacles, is capable of self-discipline, has a high degree of curiosity, has a strong desire to learn or change, is self-confident, is able to use basic study skills, organizes his or her time, sets an appropriate pace for learning, develops a plan for completing work, has a …show more content…
I have a very low self-esteem. I don’t need others telling me I will fail because I tell myself that every day. Then I turn around and prove myself wrong. That brings me to the other weakness. I am extremely bullheaded. It benefits me sometimes with my low self-esteem but it tends to mess up my organization at times. Even with a number of “what if’s” built in to my plan, my bullheadedness can keep me from taking the alternate route right away. I tend to cling to a dying appendage of the plan until the very last moment. I would like to fix that part of me as time goes …show more content…
My plans for studying are adjusted each week depending on my school work load and job work load. I make sure to devote enough time to both. I schedule alarms on my iPhone to remind me what assignment and what class to work on and when. This helps me keep my learning straight and on the right path.

My strategies are self-evaluating. My first step is to assess. Each week when I am making my plan I am reassessing to make sure all possible issues are built into my plans. I hold myself accountable by seeing how many times my plan had to deviate that week. This helps me know if I am making too many allowances or putting one thing off that shouldn’t have been for another. This will help me evaluate future plans to make sure I find the right combination for the current situation I am facing. With this in mind, and with constant re-evaluation, I think I have a great chance to succeed and achieve my ultimate

...education. Although advocates of digitized information believe that millennial students will embrace the paperless classroom, this is not proving to be the case. This research addresses gaps in our understanding of student resistance to giving up paper-based learning resources by examining attributes of the paper textbook that are perceived as necessary for knowledge transfer and that are not present in digital information modalities. Method/Design and Sample. Phase 1 used focus groups to identify the content of items that were incorporated into a quantitative instrument in phase 2. A sample of 386 undergraduate students taking marketing courses at a Canadian urban university completed the online survey. We then used Confirmatory Factor Analysis to test the factors linked to resistance to discontinuing paper textbooks. Results. Students’ resistance to giving up the paper textbook positively relates to the way in which the paper textbook facilitate learning and study processes, is permanent and under the students’ control during and after the course is finished. The fluid and dynamic nature of digital content compared to the more consistent and predictable nature of information on paper appears to be a barrier to the acquisition of knowledge for the purpose of assessment. Value to Marketing Educators. This study provides insights into the underlying reasons for student resistance to discontinuing paper-based learning resources, and benefits marketing educators and developers of...

...Self Analysis In this essay, I’m sharing with you some of the struggles I endured as a teenager and explain how I learned from the lot of mistakes I made. Looking back and reflecting on my life I can now see that I have made many mistakes. Most of my mistakes I have made were due to my lack of patience and never listening to the older family members. If I had listened to their words of wisdom, I would have saved myself a lot of trouble and headaches. Instead of taking their advice, I took my own path and did things my way. Just like any teenagers, I want to spend my time doing crazy and stupid things. I hate being nagged by my parents. They always want me to clean the house, wash dishes, study and all the crazy stuffs I hate. They always said that “This is for your own good” and I got so irritated every time I hear those words. As a teenager, I want to do things on my own. I want to enjoy life. Play arcade games, hang-out with friends, go somewhere. It seemed as if the more I did not listen, the deeper the hole I dug myself. I remember my mother told me “What goes around comes around.” I started dating a lot of girls around when I turned thirteen. I did not take into consideration the feelings of the girls that I talked to at all. I met a girl and fell in love with her but she didn’t feel the same way about me as I felt as I felt about her. My heart was broken and all I could think about was the lecture I received from my mother about karma. And now,...

Choosing Your Path in Life

...Choosing Your Path in Life Kayla Plencner ENG125: Introduction to Literature Instructor Hannah Martin September 23, 2013 Choosing Your Path in Life In a person’s life, many decisions have to be made, like the decision to get your homework done now or put it off until later, with the possibility of it being late or falling behind. We all face the decision on which path(s) to choose in life. Robert Frost’s 1916 poem “The Road Not Taken” demonstrates how the poet emphasizes ambiguity, which is “the use of language that has more than one meaning, creating uncertainty about how to interpret what has been stated,” (Clugston, 2010) that is associated with life choices. He also uses a metaphor, which is “an image that imaginatively compares one thing with another, showing how each has qualities that resemble the other,” (Clugston, 2010) by comparing the two roads with life choices of right or wrong. This poem captured my interest because it represents the decisions people make every day and the after effect that these choices may have on one’s life. In this essay I will use the formalist approach, which is “most widely used in literary criticism; it focuses on the form and development of the literary work itself,” (Clugston, 2010) to better explain my analysis. The poem is made up of four stanzas that include five lines each and the rhyme scheme of the poem is ABAAB. Although this is a short poem that does not take away from the fact that it has powerful meaning. People may...

Civil Engineering Personal Statement

...Fascination for Science & Technology and keen interest in the ever-growing world of technology motivated me to take up engineering as my career path. Right from school, my penchant towards Mathematics, Science in general and my innate quantitative and analytical abilities led me to take up Mathematics and Biology as my major subjects in high school. The power of Infrastructure and the everlasting development of Construction over the world astounded me. This being the trigger for my passion, I chose the major in Civil Engineering in my Under-graduation with an intense urge to delve this challenging field. During my under graduation program I had the opportunity to learn the various nuances of the science behind the Civil Engineering which together with the practical course work reinforced my interest more into this field. Locating my specific field was not difficult, especially with the instructions given to locate the correct path. I will definitely peruse the site more in depth at another time. The occupation I am currently in and the one I am working my way towards were fairly accurate in the skills needed, education requirements and experience levels. What was not accurate was the median wage information. In my current position I am slightly over the 25%, but a several thousand below the median level. For the occupation I am working towards, the individuals I know already in the occupation are at more around the 25% than the median. An interesting fact I did see and looked a little into was my occupation, both the one I am in and the one I am working my way towards are both offered through an apprenticeship program which advertises on this site and offers a paycheck while you learn your trade in lieu of raking up thousands in student loans. I must say this would have been a welcome site two years ago when I started with school at the age of 39. I could have been done and in my chosen occupation without the $30,000 in debt. 2. Literal Analysis

...Prof. Hurt Spencer Analysis # 2 Candide Candide is a satire novella written in the year 1750 by the French philosopher Voltaire. It is a story of optimism, which is focused on the life of Candide, and his journey through the outside world that transformed his way of thinking about life. The question for this literary analysis is if Candide gain insight during the story, and my answer is yes. Humanity can relate the life of Candide with real life. I believe that this was the purpose of the story, which is to send everyone a message of how to develop ourselves through life. I believe everything that went through Candide life was happening in order to get him out of his bubble. As we know from the novella, Candide was living in a paradise before he was captured, what happened after he was captured, was a way to show him that the world is not quite what it seems to be. In other words, the bubble in which he was trapped burst, after this he had to learn how things were in the outside world. I can easily relate to Candide in that manner, before coming to the United States I was living in what I would say is my own paradise, everything was done for me, cooking, laundry, and cleaning. After I moved out from my home country and came here to study I started to do everything by myself, the experiences that I have had here have change me. I have become more mature since then, and when the day that I go back home comes I would have become a better person for my family and friends...
