"Someone Like You"

I heard that you're settled down
That you found a girl and you're married now.
I heard that your dreams came true.
Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you.

Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light.

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.
I had hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over.

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead, "
Yeah

You know how the time flies
Only yesterday was the time of our lives
We were born and raised
In a summer haze
Bound by the surprise of our glory days

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.
I'd hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over.

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."
Yeah

Nothing compares
No worries or cares
Regrets and mistakes
They are memories made.
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."

I said, there in the dark, and as she turned to me I saw her face was streaked with tears. For a minute, I didn't know what to do. I thought again of that picture tucked in her mirror, of her and Michael just weeks ago, the water so bright and shiny behind them. And I thought of what she had done all the millions of times I'd cried to her, collapsing at even the slightest wounding of my heart or pride. So I reached over and pulled her to me, wrapping my arms around her, and held my best friend close, returning so many favors all at once. . . . ************************************ ...

Effective Listening

...listening requires sustained concentration (regardless of the length of the message), attention to the main ideas presented, note-taking (if the conditions are appropriate), and no emotional blocks to the message by the listener. You cannot listen passively and expect to retain the message. If you want to be an effective listener, you must give the communicator of the message sufficient attention and make an effort to understand his viewpoint. Guides to Effective Listening Skills Here are some practical suggestions for effective listening which, if followed, can appreciably increase the effectiveness of this communicative skill. Realize that listening is hard work. It is characterized by faster heart action, quicker blood circulation, and a small rise in body temperature. Researchers have found that the higher we climb on the organizational ladder, the more difficult listening becomes. In day-to-day conversations, show the communicator you are interested by looking and acting like you are. Prepare to listen. To receive the message clearly, the receiver must have the correct mental attitude. In your daily communications, establish a permissive environment for each communicator. Recognize your own biases. Learn what your biases are and channel them properly. You can then keep them from interfering with the message. Resist distractions. Good listeners adjust quickly to any kind of abnormal situation; poor listeners tolerate bad conditions and, in some instances, may create distractions...

When he looked at her neck he was reminded of how difficult it was to unstring a turkey. Is it my fault, he wondered, or hers - or was it the fault of her birth, some glandular deficiency, some inherited characteristic? Within the Glass Walls

...Description: What could be more hell-like agonizing than waking up in a mysterious room with the people you’d least want to be stuck with, with all of you having nothing to remember about who you were and why you are there? And then a man would enter, call himself the custodian and reveal that you are no doubt in hell itself. As you observed the room, you begin to far consider it as hell since it is not a thing as you imagined hell to be. The room had no corners with only about ten normal steps in diameter. It is also glass-walled but with nothing beyond it in sight. Then you noticed the ceiling which produces the brightness of the room. It is a whole ceiling flat with light wherein no switch in the room can be sighted. The floor was also fully made with cushion, making it comfortable to sleep at, except the man emphasized that drowsiness in that room does not exist. Minus the fact that it has no furniture or anything, it could have been a pleasant room, way better than hell as imagined. The custodian left, and since the room has nothing left to offer, you have no choice but to notice the two other people there with you. The girl must be in her early twenties. She seemed to be in middle class with a flabby body structure and a white complexion. One irritating thing about her is her screechy voice, which have been surrounding the room since she gained consciousness because of her constant crying. The man on your opposite side, who must be in her late forties, chose to be...

Another Evening at the Club by Alifa Rifaat

...ANOTHER EVENING AT THE CLUB By: Alifa Rifaat In the state of tension, she awaited the return of her husband. At a loss to predict what would happen between them, she moved herself back and forth in the rocking chair on the wide wooden verandah that ran along the bank and occupied part of the river itself, its supports being fixed in the river bed, while around it grew grasses and reeds. As though to banish her apprehension, she passed her fingers across her hair. The specters of the eucalyptus trees ranged along the garden fence rocked before her gaze, with white egrets slumbering on their high branches like huge white flowers among the thin leaves. The crescent moon behind the eastern mountains and the peaks of the gentle stirring waves glistened in its feeble rays, intermingled with threads of light leaking from the houses of Manfalout scattered along the opposite bank. The colored bulbs fixed to the trees in the garden of the club at the far end of the town stood out against the surrounding darkness. Somewhere over there her husband now sat, most likely engrossed in a game of chess. It was only few years ago that she first laid her eyes on him at her father's house, meeting his gaze that weighed up her beauty and priced it before offering the dowry. She had noted his eyes ranging over her as she presented him with the coffee in the Japanese cups that were kept safely locked away in the cupboard for important guests. Her mother had herself laid them out on the silver-plated...

As You Like It

...As You Like It presents an ideal world, just as The Merchant of Venice did. The Forest of Arden has as much romance, as many delightful lovers, more laughter and Joy. Lamb, Charles and Mary. Like A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Merchant of Venice, it is built by means of two worlds: the world ruled by Duke Frederick and the world of the Forest of Arden. Lamb, Charles and Mary. The effect is not the "separate but equal" envelope structure of A Midsummer Night Dream, nor the interlocking and necessary alternation of The Merchant of Venice; instead, Frederick's world first seems dominant and then dissolves and disappears into the world of Arden. Lamb, Charles and Mary. Its life seems to be in the play not so much for itself as to help us understand and read its successor. There is a set of contrasts between the two worlds of this play, but the contrasts are describable not in terms of opposition of power, as in A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Merchant of Venice, but in terms of attitudes of the dominant characters, as in Much Ado About Nothing, and in terms of differences in the settings and of changes in behavior for those characters who are part of both worlds. Lamb, Charles and Mary. These contrasts are easy to describe because Shakespeare points the way clearly, making each world an extreme. Our approach will be to examine the qualities of Frederick's world, then to examine the qualities of Arden, and finally out of this contrast to see how the characters behave in...

American Beauty

...Here are some roles I'd like to analyse~ The mother, Carolyne or sth: She chased after material wealth and believed that "success needs successful images", which led her to try all she can to approach the dream defination of success in her heart. In her logic, her husband was a total failure, wandering around, daydreaming all the time, putting all the financial burdens of the family on her own. She thought she "refuse to be the victim" after listening to those "inspiring radio programs" so she decided to kill her husband. That American marine officer : all he remembered was "structure" and "discipline", he suppressed his homosexual instinct just to maintain his image of a good officer. He tried to take all his family under control. He recieved a rejection when he misunderstandingly took Lester as a gay, trying to show love to him. So he killed him, with one of his handsome guns. Jannie: She thought her father sucked. "He suppose to be a role model", but not some stupid old man who only knew to stare at her girlfriend. She wanted to kill her father. I saw another version of the translation of this film --美丽有罪 I think it's more than obvious that everyone wants to kill Lester...is he representing the Beauty? I hardly think so. Afterall he lacked attention on his family, he was hostile and mean to his wife, he wanted to fuck his daughter's girlfriend and that became the priority of his entire life and reven made him get physical training. ...drive. Achiever describes a constant need for achievement. You feel as if every day starts at zero. By the end of the day you must achieve something tangible in order to feel good about yourself. And by “every day” you mean every single day — workdays, weekends, vacations. No matter how much you may feel you deserve a day of rest, if the day passes without some form of achievement, no matter how small, you will feel dissatisfied. You have an internal fire burning inside you. It pushes you to do more, to achieve more. After each accomplishment is reached, the fire dwindles for a moment, but very soon it rekindles itself, forcing you toward the next accomplishment. Your relentless need for achievement might not be logical. It might not even be focused. But it will always be with you. As an Achiever you must learn to live with this whisper of discontent. It does have its benefits. It brings you the energy you need to work long hours without burning out. It is the jolt you can always count on to get you started on new tasks, new challenges. It is the power supply that causes you to set the pace and define the levels of productivity for your work group. It is the theme that keeps you moving. Activator “When can we start?” This is a recurring question in your life. You are impatient for action.
