There were many sides of the cause of the Starving Times. Some say that the English starved themselves, due to their lack of knowledge and Powhatan and his tribe stole their food. Others say that Powhatan generously gave them food. It started when Captain Smith departed out (stated in Document D) Due to the cruelty of Powhatan, 440 of the 500 people who left, died. This event can be related America’s Got Talent Semi-finalist, Kechi, experienced a devastating plane crash in 2005 killing 107 of 109 passengers along with leaving her with 3rd-degree burns. Also, according to the Document D, it was stated that they were also starved because of poor planning, laziness, and a lack of a good government, not because the land was bad like most people
