Twenty six years after the world wide web was created, many people have allowed the online world to influence their own decisions. These people might argue that teenagers especially allow themselves to be impacted by social media. This claim is true because teenagers are influenced by behavior around them. For example, teenagers who see pictures of people under the influence of drugs tend to seek and experiment with drugs themselves. Teens tend to feel that if others their age do something, then they should do that too. Because teens on social media are more exposed to what others are doing, social media can become addictive to adolescents and can cause depression and mental issues.

As the millennial generation is growing, multiple teenagers and young adolescents …show more content…
For instance people around can maintain contact with each other, daily news can be provided from media sites such as Facebook and Twitter and even provide entertainment such as movies and videogames. As convincing as these social media facts back up the argument about why social media can be beneficial to people. The online world does provide these opportunities, but when it becomes more addictive than cigarettes, drugs and alcohol (Fox news, 2012) the millennial generation should become concerned because the future generation of teenagers and humans in general should not be influenced by social media the way we are today. Instead of maintaining contact through social media why not do interactive and physical activities with friends, and instead of finding news through social media who says the newspaper is not an option or even news on TV furthermore entertainment should not be through social media and phones but rather sports or passions and interests. all these chances and opportunities due to constantly being on social media and the online

Media

...Research Essay Effects Of Media On Teenagers In the last 10 to 15 years, the influence of media has grown exponentially with the advancement of technology. Starting from 1990s, the majority of our population did not have cable, teenagers back then relied more on news papers, magazines as internet was considered a luxury for the ordinary population at that time. With the passage of time, trends changed. Technological advancements and an economic boom have lead to increases in the standard of living. Teenagers have been exposed to media like never before. Cable networks and internet that were once luxuries have now become necessities. Media has a great influence in the development of a teenager’s personality and character. “The media is the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power. Because they control the minds of the masses,” said the American black militant leader Malcolm X (qtd. in Krishna). The power or influence of media can easily alter or change a teenager’s opinion. This means that media can depict an ordinary thing so negatively that it may compel people to believe or act in quite the opposite way. So it is necessary to analyze the effects of media on teenagers because of the influence it has on them. Media can be both helpful and harmful to teenagers. But the negative effects of Media on teenagers clearly outweigh the positive ones which is becoming a great worry for the...

The anonymity of this technology has made it easier for girls to participate in cyber bullying and sexting. Cyber bullying is very hard to stop since the anonymity of social media and texting makes it very hard to identify the bullies. Girls are also finding it easy to send sexual images and messages to boys using their cell phones, iPods or computers. What they fail to realize is that these messages can be easily shared with many people, and then the girls are humiliated. There have even been occasions where girls have ended their lives because they were so harassed they couldn’t see any other solution. Essay About Social Media

...Impact of Social Media on Society In today’s society, one can not go for long periods of time without finding a way to entertain themselves. Many adolescents are using social media to communicate with one another, varying from across the room to across the world. Social media has become so predominant, that it is now available almost in every technological device. Although it may be a convenient way of communication and keeping in touch with long distance friends, there are many negative impacts of social media, especially on the young generation. Not only is social media slowly taking over many adults’ spare time, but it is also affecting children of all ages. When a baby is crying, adults will usually hand them a cell phone to get them to be quiet, right? This is where all the problems start. Social media is causing many problems to our society’s health including obesity, in social skills required for many jobs, and in the mentalities of the younger children. One of the greatest negative impacts of social networking is causing a rapid increase in the average weight of adolescents, which can be a serious problem in the future. As teenagers sit in front of a computer all day or lay in bed with a cellphone in their hands leads to less time being physically active, causing them to gain weight. Recent Advances in Technology Are Ruining the English Language

...advancement in technology affects almost every aspect of today’s society. The English language is a prime example of this. Linguists from different universities have begun noticing changes in the modern English language; most of the alterations tend to be significant. The English language has been negatively affected by the rise of the Internet, smartphones and social media. To begin with, the Internet has had a significant impact on the teenagers’ lifestyle. This in turn has brought about a dramatic change in the level of English used. Firstly, adolescents in schools have recently created new acronyms to be used on the Internet such as in discussion boards or blogs. Examples of acronyms contain: ‘FYI’ (which stands for ‘for your information’), ‘TMI’ (which stands for ‘too much information’), ‘BRB’ (which stands for be right back) and ‘TTYL’ (which stands for ‘talk to you later’). As a result, these new acronyms have caused students’ English proficiency to deteriorate. The spread of the recently created acronyms have been incorporated into students’ writings which therefore gives the teachers a harder time of ‘reiterating’ the importance of being able to distinguish between the ‘social networking language’ and ‘academic writing’ This means that the students might later suffer in university when it comes to writing a professional report in their field of interest. In the meantime, the effect of adolescents using up-to-date smartphones has given more evidence to linguists on how the...

Cell Phones Negatively Impact Society and Social Interactions

...negatively impact society and social interactions The cell phone is a revolutionary technology gadget that has transformed how people communicate in the society. Cell phones have closed the gap of time and place to allow people to communicate at anytime from any place. Contemporary society has become more reliant on technology with the gadget of preference as the cell phone. Cell phones have created the perception of a more social society as people are more connected in modern society than they were three decades ago. The increased number and availability of cell phones have subsequently increased the volume of social interactions as people are able to socialize through multiple cell phone applications. However, the increased numbers of social interactions through cell phones have diminished the quality of interactions in society. Etiquette skills have deteriorated, family members no longer have time for each other, people have become oblivious to their surroundings, and a majority of cell phone owners have become addicts. Therefore, this paper will argue how cell phones have negatively impacted society and social interactions. Cell phones have allowed for the convenience of communication and interactions from any place and at any time. As a result, contemporary society has developed a culture of instant gratification that is fueled by the convenience of the cell phone. People will answer calls, return text messages and engage in social media interactions regardless of...

The Media Manipulating

...negative repercussions. For instance, in her essay, “What’s the Matter with Kids Today?” Amy Goldwasser claims that young people are strong critical thinkers when it comes to the manipulation between the media and them. On the contrary, Naomi Rockler-Gladen’s essay “Me Against the Media” states that young people are being easily manipulated by tons of consumer advertising from the media. At the same time I believe Goldwasser’s claim that we are strong critical thinkers, I also believe that the manipulation keeps progressing through people’s lives. We as human beings have the choice to let the media manipulate us however, we also have the choice to stop the manipulation. Not only has the media used television to manipulate us, it has also used the Internet. The Internet is much more powerful than television due to all the social networks on there. Literally, it seems like many people have forgotten the fun of being outdoors because they are too occupied being on the Internet or television. According to Goldwasser, “we’re talking about 33 million Americans who are fluent in texting, e-mailing, blogging, IM’ing and constantly amending their profiles on social network sites…” (237). Although, she did not specify the age group of the 33 million Americans we all know that it is teenagers who fulfill the description in all the...

...Explain the major factors or historical foundation that contributed to making the selected social issue important for sociological consideration Human sexuality is defines as an area of research and study that focuses on all aspects of humans as sexual beings.
