Thesis:
First, are "feminization" and "juvenilization" best assessed by trends in the percentage of the poverty population that is female (or juvenile), by the absolute poverty rates of women and children, or by the relative risks of poverty for different groups (i.e., men versus women, adult versus children)? Second, what factors are implicated in the heightened poverty levels of women and children, and what factors seem to be correlated with changes overtime in their relative risks of poverty? Finally, and perhaps most importantly, what are the effects of poverty, particularly for those who grow up poor?

Thesis Statement

...The thesis statement that I have come up with for my “big idea” topic is: I believe we can better our economy by changing the way the government assists the citizens financially with programs such as food stamps, otherwise known as EBT. The government shapes society and the government needs to help society help themselves by making a few changes to the way it disburses our tax money. I think this thesis is going to be effective because it shows my main focus of the essay I will be writing, which is to change the way government assists families of low income. I want to stress the option of giving more money as school grants rather than giving it for food. Another option would also be limiting the options of foods that are okay to purchase with EBT. Right now, there are no limitation other than alcohol or pre-prepared foods. You can even purchase energy drinks at the moment. If people weren’t given everything for doing nothing, they may be more likely to further their education and get a better job to provide such luxuries as fatty foods or sweets and energy drinks. I see a major problem supporting this thesis with fallacy, mainly because I have such strong personal opinions. I am going to have to force myself to rely on straight facts and pure research to get my point across. For my research, I am going to stray away from any sort of blogs or websites put up as a riot against the government. I will do my best to find websites that are “.org” or .gov”. I think a good...

Thesis Statement

...How To Write a Thesis Statement What is a Thesis Statement? Almost all of us—even if we don’t do it consciously—look early in an essay for a one- or two-sentence condensation of the argument or analysis that is to follow. We refer to that condensation as a thesis statement. Why Should Your Essay Contain a Thesis Statement? to test your ideas by distilling them into a sentence or two to better organize and develop your argument to provide your reader with a “guide” to your argument In general, your thesis statement will accomplish these goals if you think of the thesis as the answer to the question your paper explores. How Can You Write a Good Thesis Statement? Here are some helpful hints to get you started. You can either scroll down or select a link to a specific topic. How to Generate a Thesis Statement if the Topic is Assigned How to Generate a Thesis Statement if the Topic is not Assigned How to Tell a Strong Thesis Statement from a Weak One How to Generate a Thesis Statement if the Topic is Assigned Almost all assignments, no matter how complicated, can be reduced to a single question. Your first step, then, is to distill the assignment into a specific question. For example, if your assignment is, “Write a report to the local school board explaining the potential benefits of using computers in a fourth-grade class,” turn the request into a question like, “What are the potential benefits of using computers in a fourth-grade class?” After you’ve chosen the...

Thesis Statement:

...An organization  is an entity comprising multiple people, such as an institution or an association, that has a collective goal and is linked to an external environment. An organization can be structured in many different ways, depending on its objectives. The structure of an organization will determine the modes in which it operates and performs. Two Basic Types of Organizations: For-Profit (Business) and Nonprofit. For-Profit (Business) Organizations: A for-profit organization exists primarily to generate a profit, that is, to take in more money than it spends. The owners can decide to keep all the profit themselves, or they can spend some or all of it on the business itself. Nonprofit Organizations A nonprofit organization exists to provide a particular service to the community. The word "nonprofit" refers to a type of business -- one which is organized under rules that forbid the distribution of profits to owners. "Profit" in this context is a relatively technical accounting term. Section 501 of the Internal Revenue Code lists several circumstances under which corporations are exempt from these taxes. Section 501(c)(3) -- the famous one -- describes corporations (1) serving charitable, religious, scientific or educational purposes (2) no part of the income of which "inures to the benefit of" anyone. Good Thesis Statement

...Have you ever had to write an essay in class or for an assignment? Most kids do, and most of them dislike it. But, writing essays is something that everyone goes through, and it’s a common writing practice. And, if you want to write a good essay, you have to use sensory details, and have a good thesis statement. Those aren’t the only two things you have to do to have a good essay, but in my opinion their the most important. These two things will make your paper great, and impress your teacher. Having a good thesis statement is a very important thing in an essay. Without it, people don't really know the point you're trying to make, or even why you wrote the paper. Thesis statement state what your essay is going to be about, your point or argument,...

Thesis Problem Statement

...Thesis Problem Statement Andrew J. Napierala Advisor: Mark Frascatore February 2000 Assistant Professor, Faculty of Economics and Finance The United States of America v. Microsoft Corporation Topic: My Honors Program thesis project will deal with “The United States of America v. Microsoft Corporation.” In this ongoing anti-trust case, the Justice Department and 19 States Attorneys' General are alleging that the company is guilty of monopolistic and anti-competitive trade practices that are detrimental to industry competitors and consumers. Microsoft contends that it has fostered innovation and competition and has not engaged in monopolistic practices. Over the course of this project, I will examine the historical and current applications of anti-trust law and utilize these laws to develop an analysis of the Microsoft case. Rationale: The history of Anti-Trust litigation in the United States features several groundbreaking cases that have contributed to our current competitive environment. Without a doubt, the ongoing Microsoft anti-trust trial is the most relevant and challenging exercise of anti-trust law in decades. I find the Microsoft anti-trust case to be an outstanding thesis topic for a variety of reasons. As a future law school student, I am intrigued by the complex applications of anti- trust law and the existing jurisprudence with regard to such cases. Most experts would agree that recent developments involving computing technology and Internet...

Understanding Thesis Statements

...A Thesis statement: • Tells the reader how you will interpret the significance of the subject matter under discussion. • • Is a road map for the paper; in other words, it tells the reader what to expect from the rest of the paper. • • Directly answers the question asked of you. A thesis is an interpretation of a question or subject, not the subject itself. The subject, or topic, of an essay might be World War II or Moby Dick; a thesis must then offer a way to understand the war or the novel. • • Makes a claim that others might dispute. • • Is usually a single sentence somewhere in your first paragraph that presents your argument to the reader. The rest of the paper, the body of the essay, gathers and organizes evidence that will persuade the reader of the logic of your interpretation. • • • It states the essay's subject -- the topic that you are discussing. • • It reflects the essay's purpose -- either to give your readers information or to persuade your readers to agree with you. • • It includes a focus -- your assertion that conveys your point of view. • • It uses specific language -- avoids vague words and generalizations. • • It may (but doesn't have to) state the major subdivisions of the essay's topic. Thesis Statement Analysis

...John Dufresne once said “The purpose of the first draft is not to get it right, but to get it written.” Surprisingly enough that is the primary difficulty I usually face when writing an essay. I focus too much on perfecting and planning out my essay. I spend hours deciding on my topic, writing the introduction paragraph and creating my thesis statement. In my opinion an author never gets a second chance to capture the attention of his or her reader. This is why I consider an effective introduction to be vital, it is a map that lays out what is going to be talked about in your paper. Ever since I was a child writing has always been very problematic for me. It takes a long time for me to transform my thoughts into words and put them on paper....

Thesis Statement on Breastfeeding

...Thesis statement: Research shows that breastfeeding is the best choice over formula because breastfeeding provides the infant with essential nutrients, helps with recovery from childbirth, and protects the infant against a number of chronic conditions. Annotated bibliography Baumgartel, K. L., & Spatz, D. L. (2013). WIC (The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children): Policy versus practice regarding breastfeeding. Nursing Outlook, 61(6). 10.1016/j.outlook.2013.05.010 This article addresses the discrepancy of policy versus practice in the government subsidized program WIC. This article shows how even though the program is meant to support at risk mothers in breastfeeding, the numbers prove that a majority of their budget is spent on formula expenses. Very little of the budget is actually allocated to breastfeeding initiatives. The American Academy of Nursing members create and execute policy related initiatives to reform the American Health system. The academy has more than 2,400 members and is the established leaders in practice and research. They are advocates in healthcare policy making in Washington DC. This source will be relevant to the research paper because it will provide examples of the lack of funding for education and for initiatives for breastfeeding awareness and support, especially for the at risk population. Thesis Statement and Outline

...3. How might factors such as diversity, attitude, learning, and work styles affect team building? The United States is known for its diversity in cultures. We all have learned to learn and accept others for who they are and what they contribute, without judging the color of their skin or beliefs. Diversity could be a benefit the team. We all come from different backgrounds and therefore have different ideas. But in the same way all these ideas could create conflicts because we all think so differently. This is where our attitude plays a role. In our diversity wheel, we all seem to have scored closely in the attitude category. Attitude is one of the most important factors in team work. We all need to learn to listen and try to understand each other. We must analyze everyone’s work and give good criticism instead of just rejecting someone’s work. Everyone has different methods of learning today. Some learn faster than others, this could definitely affect team building. We all have to be patient and help one another so we can all be on the same page. Some of us need extra help in understanding certain concepts, and in order to succeed as a team, we must all understand and help each other. Just like learning, we all have different work styles. People tend to work in different ways according to their life’s schedule. Some like to wait until the last minute because they work better under pressure, and team members must respect that. Others like to take their time and have an...

Thesis Statement For 10000 Hours

...Three paragraphs: 4, 8 and 14 are all used for a similar purpose. They all act as transition passages that both act as conclusion to the previous topic sentences and introduction to the next topic sentence. The other passages are longer because they are evidences that are used to support the topic sentence. For example, in paragraph 8, we can see how Gladwell slowly connects the previous topic sentences to his thesis statement: “In fact researchers have settled on what they believe is the magic number for true expertise 10,000 hours”. Because Gladwell starts this excerpt with a story as an introduction instead of with a thesis statement. He finds a need to create critical passages that not only can slowly lead the reader to the unfolding thesis statement “10000 hours rules” but also pose essential questions which can be used as topic sentence for the next story. ”Is the 10000 hour rule a general rule of success?”...
