Capstone Proposal Summary Internet of Everything (IoE) and “Big Data” equates to competitive advantages to the modern business landscape. Numerous white papers are circulating on the Internet highlighting the business case supporting the IoE initiative. For instance, in a white paper conducted by Cisco Inc. on the Value Index of IoE in 2013 reported the following:
In February 2013, Cisco released a study predicting that $14.4 trillion of value (net profit) will be at stake globally over the next decade, driven by connecting the unconnected –people-to-people (P2P), machine-to-people (M2P), and machine-to-machine (M2M) - via the Internet of Everything (IoE).
Cisco defines the Internet of Everything as the networked connection of people, process, data, and things. The IoE creates new “capabilities, richer experiences, and unprecedented economic opportunity for businesses, individuals, and countries” (The Internet of Everything, Cisco, Inc. 2014). With such a lofty goal looming, and the monetary potential, many sources will support the notion of companies scrambling to achieve a computing networking infrastructure that supports the IoE paradigm. Envisioning the potentials, ABC Inc. does not want to experience losses common to companies that hold to that wait and see rationale which have plagued many IT service providers in the past. However,

Advanced Contrast Between Gprs and Cdma Data One Packet

...involves a complete upgrade of the network. The path to achieve this greatly differs between GSM and CDMA networks. This paper gives an advanced comparison between the GSM and CDMA networks in the path to deploying packet data with essential features of cost implications, time, infrastructure and compatibility in various handsets, speed and implementation methods. Detailed procedure of CDMA to 3G CDMA path is mentioned along with critical comparison with GSM path at each and every stage. 1. INTRODUCTION Wireless operators around the globe are launching or preparing to launch packet data services over mobile networks. Deploying packet data is a cost-effective way for mobile carriers to balance the network resources required to sufficiently meet the needs of the growing market for voice services and the potentially large mobile data market. The path to high-speed packet data differs greatly, however, between GSM and CDMA networks. GSM operators require a new data backbone, base station upgrades and new handsets to offer packet data services. Packet data in CDMA One networks is standard and was built into the IS-95 standard from its inception. All CDMA One handsets and base stations are packet data capable today, and the networks utilize standard Internet protocol (IP) based equipment. GSM is circuit- based, requiring a new packet data backbone and new handsets. In order to take advantage of higher speed packet data, the GSM and CDMA One upgrade paths include...

...servers and a more domain controllers it has allowed you to have a backup solution in place in case of server failure. All sites will send and receive messages through the Edge Transport Server this will help control the flow of messages coming and going from the internet. The edge transport server also plays a huge role in protecting the users from spam and viruses. Then from within the hospital, deployed inside of the Active Directory Forest the Hub Transport role much like a mail sorter will be handling all flow of messages from within the domain. Also this is where transport rules and journaling rules are applied and it makes sure all the right recipients receive their mail. All messages going back out through the internet to any recipient of one of the six locations will first have to be relayed by the hub transport server to the edge transport server. All messages being submitted to the transport hub server will be SMTP. Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is used to send messages over the internet or from server to server, by using Outlook users are able to receive these messages. Since a lot of the messages are being received and sent from different locations its best to use SMTP over TLS or best known as SSL. SSL uses what is known as cryptograph for transmitting private documents over the internet. Cryptograph is a key based system that uses two separate keys to encrypt the senders’ private...

The Toy Factory Network Design

...Executive Summary The Toy Company has requested an upgrade of their network system. The current system has over ten old Windows 95 Operating System desktops with MS Office 95 products. The office employees use the network to send e-mail, access the Internet, make the payroll, accounting, scheduling receiving and delivering, invoicing, human resources tasks, and an outdated inventory System. The manufacturing side of the operation has a legacy network managing a classic robotics system. Every part of this system is obsolete, and the vendors went out of business, eliminating the possibility of support. The only IT person at the manufacturing facility may be an expert on keeping this old system running, but they do not have any experience with new technology. Needless to say, the system is slow and when a problem arise the downtime can go on for hours and sometimes even days at a time. The Toy Factory management wants to address these issues through an upgrade to their system, but they are also looking to positively affect productivity and improve security of the network overall. The proposed network will require significant changes to The Toy Factory's systems. The current hardware is in dire need of an upgrade, which will be implemented with the new physical network architecture. The implementation of this new architecture will provide higher speeds, reliability, and easier maintenance of network (Dennis, 2009). The upgraded hardware will come with better software that will...

... After meeting with Lisa and Ruben, I came up with several ideas for Club IT to become more successful throughout. I researched several project development methodology that could bring Club IT to a whole new level as far as business and information technology. I was also able to give Lisa some suggestions on how to keep Club IT's edge as high energy and high impact as possible through club and public resources such as network applications (University of Phoenix, 2012). I have also identified three business problems at Club IT and plan on fixing those problems as soon as possible with my suggestions. The project method methodology that I have decided to go with for the company is rapid application development. I chose this methodology because it can combine a number of tools and user requirements such as prototyping and joint application design to rapidly produce a high quality system (Rainer & Turban, 2009). This methodology is important because it allows the users in the company to be involved from the start as well as speed up systems development. Three business problems at Club IT are the website, computer hardware, and Internet. These three problems are huge for Club IT because these problems are slowing Club IT's business down. By upgrading and fixing these problems, Club IT could be better than ever. Club IT's website has been a problem because the website lacks the same excitement and advertisement as Club IT itself. It is important that the club make necessary...

Zara Case Study

...Zara Case Study 1. Case Summary The Zara case study is a case of the fundamental of whether or not to upgrade an IT system which already works, in this case a POS operating system that uses DOS, to more modern operating systems that includes more functionality to meet new demands. Zara is a chain fashion store around Europe, Middle East, Africa, and South America that was founded by Amancio Ortega, in 1975. The first store and main headquarters was found in La Cournia, Spain. Mr. Ortega believed and implemented his business model that: Retailing and manufacturing needed to be closely linked. This created the backbone for Zara’s everyday functionality to have all the stores communicate with the main distributors and distribution centers (DCs) which in turn communicated directly to the manufactures. As a result, supply was meet with demand with ease and little latency. This was all made possible through the use of technology and Zara’s IT department. Salgado Badas, the head of the IT, along with Bruno Sanchez Ocampo, were the main decision makers and brains behind the IT of Zara. For the past decade, Zara has implemented POS systems in each store that would have a direct connection via modem to the main headquarters in La Coruna. Managers on a daily basis transmit comprehensive sales information and other data back to La Coruna. In 2003, PDA’s were also used for ordering and also for tasks such as handling garment returns to DCs and transmitting...

Zara It for Fashion Case Study

...Executive Summary Zara has relied on Personal Digital Assistants (PDA’s) and Point of Sales (POS) terminal operating on Microsoft DOS which are not linked to the headquarters or other stores for its daily transactions. Although, the system has proved to be stable and reliable over time, it has become obsolete and cannot be supported by the providers. I recommend that the company invest on a new system like Windows, UNIX or Linux operating system which will enhance connectivity and flexibility in operations and information flow. Investing in a cutting edge technology though may be capital intensive initially; it will ultimately improve efficiencies across board and provide new learning opportunities for the entire workforce. Introduction Zara is a division of the Inditex group, a multinational clothing retailer and manufacturer with headquarters in La Coruna, Spain. Inditex operates in a `fast fashion` industry and in an environment where consumer demand was notoriously hard to forecast. The first Zara store was opened in 1975 near the factory. Today, Zara has over 650 stores spread across 50 countries around the world located in luxury shopping districts that attracts well-heeled customers. As part of an integrated group that includes, fabric, dye making and computer aided (CAD) cloth making factory, Zara contributes over 73.3% of the group’s sales in 2002 fiscal-year and the most profitable. Almost half of Inditex revenue is gotten in Spain while...

The mobile operating system is a software platform on top of which other programs called application programs can run on mobile devices. The Android operating system has grown from a small development project into the most frequently used mobile operating system that people use on a regular basis. It has had several stages in the development that has lead into the technology that powers many smart phones and tablets today. Android Inc. was founded in the United States in 2003 by Andy Rubin and Rich Minor of Palo Alto who then teamed up with Chris White and Nick Spears who work together to develop the software and associated technology to produce the most efficient Android operating system possible(itd_24 2012). While there have been many different versions of this technology, is important to realize that each version of operating system has helped to develop the most efficient operating system that is best for the consumer of that point in time. The android operating system has gone through a number of different names and versions before settling on the name android that is commonly known now. The previously known names of the android operating system consists of cupcake, donut, eclair, froyo, gingerbread, honeycomb, ice cream sandwich, and the...

...accurate inventories and perform store-store transfers. Another major con was that it was developed, maintained, and supported in house by a single resource. As the cons outweighed the pros, the team agreed that the upgrade was inevitable. We also concluded that the IT team would need to be structured prior to the POS upgrade so they could manage and support this massive initiative. As with any investment, a thorough analysis would need to be performed using key financial metrics (e.g. ROI, NPV, etc.). We also discussed how Zara’s business model aided in maintaining a competitive edge. Their business model focused on avoiding "classic" clothing lines that would always be in style 3-5 times the number of styles more than potential competitors. Zara also offered differentiation through their timeliness to get new styles to stores and the multitude of new designs offered throughout the year. In order to sustain this competitive advantage they would have to continue to innovate and protect the value chain. We also discussed how Zara's business model of holding low inventory in stock and making frequent changes made the company more vulnerable in the event of a glitch or failure in the process. We had some interesting ideas on how Zara could leverage social media and internet in order to survive in today's market place. To conclude, the team agreed that a more sophisticated technology would strengthen Zara’s competitive advantage as it would eliminate Zara’s current...
