Oil Industry

...the world’s leading nations such as the US, Canada, Brazil are in the research of developing their oil production. Other countries such as China, are focused on purchasing interest in foreign reserves and use their expertise to import the oil to their country. There are many new technologies such as 3D seismic, hydraulically fracturing and directional drilling. These new technologies have opened up new levels of oil discovery increasing its production all around the world, also these technologies is making the production of oil in America much more important than others in the world. Also, there is a greater focus than ever before on the impact of energy production and consumption, in this case oil. Some nations like the UK and the US have very ambitious goals in which they are looking to begin the construction of new nuclear plants that are safer than the older models this will bring a more cost-effective oil. To accomplish this the oil companies have to invest a huge amount of money so they require a large amount of government subsidies and loans to encourage the investment. This has been difficult because the governments have struggle with large deficits and debts so their willingness to back new projects has been difficult in the last years. Despite all of this the supply of oil has been steady. Better science, technology and engineering are being applied to exploration, production and conservation of oil. Mature economics like the US and leading nations in Europe are being...

Cj Topic Questions

...The theme of this book is individual-rights verses public-order, specifically; the rights guaranteed by the constitution to criminal suspects and law abiding citizens need to be upheld and defended. On the public-order side of things, the needs of communities to be protected from unlawful and/or harmful behavior must be recognized as well. These two sides have opposing groups: individual-rights advocates and public-order advocates. Individual-rights advocates focus on just that. They make sure the rights of citizens and suspects are both upheld (like the right to a speedy trial and bail). Public-order advocates are there to make sure that the public (communities) are also protected from unacceptable behavior... Describe the American experience with crime during the last half century. What noteworthy criminal incidents or activities can you identify during that time, and what social and economic conditions might have produced them? The American experience with crime during the last half century has been especially influential in shaping the criminal justice system of today. Although crime waves have come and gone, some events during the past century stand out as especially significant, including a spurt of widespread organized criminal activity associated with the Prohibition years of the early twentieth century; the substantial increase in “traditional” crimes during the 1960s and 1970s; the threat to the American way of life represented by illicit drugs around the same time;...

American Baby Boomer

...Rajashree Gopinath 25/02/2013 Principles of marketing Prof John O’Malley THE AMERICAN BABY BOOMER More babies were born in 1946 than ever before in the United States of America. Statistics indicate that 3.4 million people were born, which is 20 percent more than in 1945. This was the beginning of the so-called “baby boom.” In 1947, another 3.8 million babies were born and more than 4 million were born every year from 1954 until 1964. By then, there were 76.4 million “baby boomers” in the United States. They made up almost 40 percent of the nation’s population. So by definition baby boomers are the large number of people born worldwide between 1946 and 1964. History The Great depression and the World War II had just ended. This was the time when two of the most dreadful events of the world took its break. People who had postponed marriage during the Great depression and World War II had begun to consider starting a family. According to statistics between 1940- 1945, only 8% of women opted out of having babies. They started doing so because they began to think that the future holds comfort and prosperity. In a way they were rite. The then “American dream” was met by the passing of the GI bill on June 1944. Due to this, loans for homes and farms were made available to GIs at low interest rates, and low or no down payment was provided, which meant that it was cheaper to buy houses in suburban areas than to rent an apartment in the city. Hence people began...

Broken Union

...Rycraft HUMN 303H Professor McCarthy February 20, 2015 A Broken Union The American Dream is the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. Many say that they have now made that dream a reality. In the early 50’s this wasn’t the case, we still had that dream but many obstacles to get through to achieve that dream. During this time America will be put through strain and heartache to prosper and become the country that many look toward for freedom. The 50’s were a time where we had to take a step back and reanalyze because of the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War. These two major events that happened in America may have shaped us in the wrong way. During this time in America, we were divided as a whole. It wasn’t one country but two, not by where you lived but rather by your skin color. If you were born with the wrong skin color you would be penalized for this. “Although African Americans’ subjugation holds a special place in U.S. history, they were by no means the only important group facing severe marginalization during the 1950s and since. Native Americans as well as Latinos and Latinas were subject to systematic racial discrimination, dispossession of property, and hate crimes.” (Super, 2014) America was a dark place if you weren’t white and that held us back as a nation. To end racial segregation and discrimination against black Americans, the African-American Civil...

Social Imagination

...viewpoint gives us a much fairer and unbiased way to make a decision that is fair. Removing our past prejudices and mores we have grown up with can give us a total different way of looking at the world. One of the greatest issues today affecting many countries but seemingly most evident right now in the United States is same sex marriage. It has been in the forefront lately of every political race from small communities to the entire 50 states. I use as my article, the current issue of Time Magazine, July 8th, page 15, The Peoples Court On Race and Gay Marriage. There probably has not been an issue in history that has spurned such passionate arguments for and against same sex marriage since the race issues of the 50’s and 60’s. There are so many reasons people can use as for and against argument. It could be ones own person religious beliefs that hold us against this. Whether interpretation is correct, many Christians believe that homosexuality goes against the teachings of the bible. This is of course based on ones feeling of what the bible says as no where is it actually stated in the bible that homosexuality is wrong. It could be the mores or beliefs of our individual family even if they were not religious based but personal opinions of our parents and passed onto us whether verbally or subconsciously. It’s amazing how much children can pick up even if not verbalized. The constitutionalists avidly argue Same Sex Marriage must be passed to make us...

Reagan' S Second Inaugural Address

...as Senator Mathias told us, the 50th time that we the people have celebrated this historic occasion. When the first President, George Washington, placed his hand upon the Bible, he stood less than a single day's journey by horseback from raw, untamed wilderness. There were 4 million Americans in a union of 13 States. Today we are 60 times as many in a union of 50 States. We have lighted the world with our inventions, gone to the aid of mankind wherever in the world there was a cry for help, journeyed to the Moon and safely returned. So much has changed. And yet we stand together as we did two centuries ago. When I took this oath four years ago, I did so in a time of economic stress. Voices were raised saying we had to look to our past for the greatness and glory. But we, the present-day Americans, are not given to looking backward. In this blessed land, there is always a better tomorrow. Four years ago, I spoke to you of a new beginning and we have accomplished that. But in another sense, our new beginning is a continuation of that beginning created two centuries ago when, for the first time in history, government, the people said, was not our master, it is our servant. [ ... ] We believed then and now: There are no limits to growth and human progress when men and women are free to follow their dreams. And we were right to believe that. Tax rates have been reduced, inflation cut dramatically, and more people are employed than ever before in our history. We are creating a nation...
