The video I watched was a lecture given by Carol Barnes about aging of the brain. The video was part of a special lecture for the Arizona University. There are many mysteries of the brain. This can date back all the way through history. One example is the Egyptian God Thoth. He was in charge of governing memory and wisdom. Aristotle believed new impressions remain in young age and the surface of the brain as we age is no longer. This makes me wonder if people in history were questioning the longevity of the brain why has it taken so long to understand the concept now?
The idea can be very scientific but the common conception is when we are over 50 years we become senescent, which leads to being senile, and having dementia. Today we can contribute this idea to genetics, environment, and life style. The idea of diseases such as Alzheimer’s is based on a change in brain pathology. As we age there is change taking place in memory and learning, which does not mean you are senile or have a cognitive disease. There are many influences someone puts on themselves that can contribute to the decline in brain health. This includes smoking, using too much alcohol, and…show more content… In micro countries like Morocco the average age is 90! What is the great secret of these countries? Is there really a secret? Neurons are the elements in our brain that hold memories. Neurons do not divide. How is it some people can still have sharp minds and others do not The idea could be contributed to unknown forces of nature. One example was a women named Besse Cooper who at the time of this video was 114. She outlived her husband. Her secrets are she minded her own business and didn’t eat junk food. The world’s oldest documented person is Jeanne Louise Calment. She was 122. She drank wine every day and smoked until she was in her 90’s. She said she didn’t have any secrets but she and Besse still had high cognitive function at their
