Lilly Ledbetter Case Summary

...The case of Ms. Kate is in violation of the EPA. “The Equal Pay Act (EPA) prohibits sex-based wage discrimination between men and women in the same establishment who perform jobs that require substantially equal skill, effort, and responsibility under similar working condition” (“EQUAL PAY ACT OF 1963 AND LILLY LEDBETTER FAIR PAY ACT OF 2009,” n.d). The issue I see is one male was hired in at $10,000 more salary than Ms. Kate; even though Ms. Kate does not have a PhD she has six years of experience in this line of work and also has her “Master’s in Social Work (MSW), a terminal degree that, as a credential, has far more external marketability than the degrees possessed by the two new hires” (Thorne, Ferrell, & Ferrell, 2011). Her job duties require more than what the other two men that have a higher degree....

...Marketing Strategy Report A new product for happiness Definition of happiness Happiness is the degree, to which an individual judges the overall quality of his own life as a whole favorably, and it is generally considered to be an ultimate goal in life; virtually everybody wants to be happy. Happiness depends on many things, including income, labor market status, job characteristics, health, leisure, family, social relationships, security, liberty, moral values, and many others (Ahn et al.2004). To provide more concrete and vivid definitions, the author interviewed 15 potential consumers. Among them, 6 interviewees illustrate the similar definition, which is to do what you want with somebody you love. Other definitions provided are being together with family members, wishes to come true and so on. From the simple survey, it can be concluded that happiness plays a significant role in our lives, and it can be obtained or enhanced with the companion of people they love or care, for instance, family members or lovers. New product The product I design is the customized service of travel planner called Travel of Happiness. As known, travelling is one of the best ways to spend quality time with lovers and family members to improve their relationships. Family members will communicate and interact with each other more often with the help of the chance that eliminates the interruption of work or study. Secmat Hr Consulting

... PowerPoint Slides Company Type and Ownership “SECMAT HR Consulting” will be established as a General Partnership company based in Washington D.C, originally by 6 partners of SECMAT team. About General Partnership In business, when you hear the word partnership, it generally refers to a general partnership. In a general partnership, there are two or more partners. Each is liable for any debts or judgments taken on by the business. There is no limited liability, which means all the partners’ assets can be taken in a lawsuit or be targeted to settle debts should the partnership become insolvent. Any partner can be sued for the full amount of business debts. Another attribute of the general partnership is that every partner has so-called “agency powers,” which means any partner can bind the entire business to a contract or business deal. The benefits of the general partnership are structure and control. Unless by other agreement, profits are shared equally amongst the partners. In most cases, there is a contract of some sort which outlines how profits and losses will be divided. In a general partnership, each partner has an equal right to participate in the management and control of the business. The partners have the option of deciding disagreements by majority rule or by developing a voting or other dispute resolution system. Some partnerships provide for certain electees to manage the partnership like a company board. However, many do...

Job Fair Paper

...Job Fair Brochure Rhonda Holt Bus210 Axia College of University of Phoenix The structure of my company is a sole-proprietorship. I am the only owner of the business. One reason that I chose my business to be a sole-proprietorship is because it is the simplest form of business (Chapter 2, p.57, ¶4). Another reason is that I do not want to be liable for anyone else’s money that they have put into the company. By being the only owner, I take all financial risks. Because of this choice, one impact could be if someone sued me, the person would be suing me, not my business. By this, I mean that my “I will not have the benefit of having my personal assets protected separately from those of the business” (Edwards, 2005). Another impact would be that the money I earn would be mine; I will not have to share it with other owners. My business model of my small business is that I make gift baskets of all kind for others to enjoy; I make baskets for all occasions for customers of all ages. I am making a product for other people’s enjoyment in the hopes of making a profit. I will also be selling teddy bears, roses with gold tips and the actual basket for those who want to make their own baskets; also some jewelry for some custom made baskets. I selected this element because I am a for-profit organization, which means that I am in business to make a profit. The impact of this would be that if I run my business correctly, I would make a decent profit, and then be able to open...

Wal-Mart

...HEALTH BENEFITS Business Case 4 Human Resource Management Foundation – HRM 500 1. How well do you think Wal-Mart’s earlier, more limited health benefits supported the company’s overall business strategy? I feel Wal-Mart’s earlier, limited health benefits did not support the company’s overall business strategy because, in order for employees to want to work for a specific employer, employees must feel they are making a difference in his/her position. Employees must also feel that the organization is meeting some of their important needs. Employees place value in job satisfaction for example, employee earnings and benefits. ‘A job is the primary source of income and financial security for most people” (Noe. 2009, p.294). An employee expects a fair salary for the work he/she performs. If the employee feels his/her pay is not equal or comparable to others, who are doing the same job, can cause the employee to feel a sense of unfairness and dissatisfaction. An employee who feels the organization supports their individual needs are more motivated in displaying positive behaviors and working relationships. When an employee feels good about his/her employer it shows in his/her performance. Employees are more engaged in their position when the organization presents a pleasant working environment and opportunities for growth. One of Wal-Mart’s expectations of their employees is to provide superior customer service. Employees who are satisfied with their job and the organization...

Gender Inequity

...others (Wienberger, 2016). The aim of this report is to analyse and address the issue of under-representation of women in a workplace and gender pay inequity. This report will identify the issue and why it has occurred, talk about related management functions and environmental factors and offer two recommendations. Discussion Why it occurs? There are many reasons why this issue could occur in a firm. One reason is a glass-ceiling effect. It means an invisible barrier for women preventing them from reaching higher positions in an organisation. There are 3 things closely related to this effect: gender wage gap (when men and women are doing the same job for different wages), gender/job segregation (when men and women are working in different industries while women are usually assigned to low-market value jobs) and barrier in promotion process (men are more likely to get promoted then women) (Yazdanifard & Zainal Abidin, 2016). Other factors that have influence are the manager, organisation itself and the external environment. Manager as a person can not only...
