This need for professional decorum extends to all students as you are preparing yourself to enter the professional world. Dance 103 is an experiential class. You must be in class, “experiencing” class, to get the material. You are allowed one absence for any reason (including religious, jury duty, medical, illness, family, etc.) The instructor must be notified in advance of any necessary anticipated absence via email goulets@uwm.edu. Each additional absence which is not made up, will decrease your grade. If you miss more than 3 classes for any reason you have failed the course and should drop the class. There are absolutely no “excused” absences after one. You may make up a total of 2 missed classes in one of my other sections. A class can only be made up within 2 weeks of when the absence occurred. Arriving to class late 2 times counts for 1 absence. Leaving class early will result in the equivalent of a late or absence, at the instructor’s discretion. Her work and philosophy has had a continuing impact on the growth and development of dance by consistently delivering a unique approach, independent of the traditional techniques of modern and the antitechnical works of the avant-garde. She used the strong technique gained by ballet training to bring forth broken pirouettes and contorted bodies. She used rhythmic music to create movement that disagreed with the natural flow of the music. This paper surveys the creative process behind Twyla Tharp’s piece Eight Jelly Rolls. It explores some of the activities used to mentally and physically prepare Tharp dancers for her work. Most importantly, it aims to not only bring light to the significance and importance of the process, but to identify how the authenticity of a choreographer’s piece can be lost if the creative development of the piece is somehow altered or entirely disregarded. As her first piece choreographed and married to music, Eight Jelly Rolls is a masterpiece, full of energy, laughter, and excitement. In this paper, I will focus on the transformation of hip –hop through theatre in the work of Robert Alexander, A Preface to the Alien Garden, and the work of Kamilla Forbes, A Rhyme Deferred. These playwrights reflect the evolution and different elements of the hip-hop culture. Outline of the experiment After reviewing an article relating to the effects of music tempo on cycle ergometer performance by Waterhouse, Hudson and Edwards (2009), you have been asked to design and undertake an experiment into the effects of music tempo on the selected cycling cadence of a group of undergraduate students. A group of male and female undergraduates were taken into a physiology laboratory (where normal safety and health checks were undertaken), and following an appropriate warm-up routine, were instructed to cycle, with no resistance, at whatever speed they chose to. A pre-recorded selection of dance music was played in the laboratory the music was all selected because the tempo of the originally recorded music, which was 120 beats per minute (BPM). However, the experimenter was able to manipulate the BPM of the tracks, to play to the people taking part in the experiment at 100, 110, 120 or 130 bpm. In the tenth minute of the cycling trial, the average cycling cadence (number of pedal revolutions) of each participant was recorded. ...Abstract Raves have historically referred to grass-roots organized, anti-establishment and unlicensed all night dance parties, featuring electronically-produced dance music (EDM), such as techno, house, trance and drum and bass. Since their late 1980s origins in the U.K., raves have gained widespread popularity and transformed dramatically. Consequently, their many cultural traits and behaviors have garnered much sociological interest, which mostly falls into two competing perspectives: cultural studies and public health. In this paper, we review what raves look like today compared to their high point in the 1990s. We then discuss how the cultural studies and public health perspectives define raves and have studied them over time, focusing on the “pet” sociological concepts each has sought to advance. Our analysis of these literatures reveals important differences in rave research by country and over time. We end by discussing the politics associated with the shift in rave research. ...from a family of music. Both his father and grandfather played the trumpet. He learned how to play the guitar at the very young age of 4. Some of the artists who inspired him were Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray. I am drawn to this artist for his style of blues and rock. His music makes me feel mellow and calm. Makes me want to be at a bar drinking a beer, smoking a cigarette and listen to him play live. The culture/environmental music that I can identify in this music are the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. Joe’s music is mostly guitar and drums. My Overall impression of the album is excellent. I only disliked 2 songs from the entire album. My favorite song from the album was song title “Reconsider baby” and my second was “When she dances”. Both are slower and mellow. The songs are very calming and easy to listen too. My least favorite song was “Faux Martini”. This song was my least favorite because it sounds too much like country and I’m not a country fan. Sounds very honky tonk and that’s not my style at all.
