The aims of this report are to reveal my achievement, difference experiences, and other events at my organisation during the nine month work placement. One of the famous hotels in central London which has been an extremely interesting history since 1907 is Strand Palace Hotel. It is easy to access around London popular places such as Trafalgar Square, Convert Garden, Charing Cross, London Eyes and so on. For tourists and foreigners, it is the perfect and easy going address and for international companies and business people, it can save their time, make them comfortable due to their incredible customer service in city area. I am a breakfast Food and Beverage assistant in Strand Palace Hotel. My responsibilities are directly report to our supervisor about complaint or special events, train new staffs on serving customer with going to extra mile, preparing coffee and tea for the guest, to be sure all of the equipment in the restaurant are proper storage and security of monies, reset the table for Lunch and dinner, participate in monthly training.
My experience
Hostess position Firstly, I got a promotion as a hostess position at the hotel’ Curvery restaurant in breakfast session. After promotion, I have more responsibilities to check the customers’ keys cards to make sure full English breakfast inclusive or not. If not, we have to charge in their room or ask them pay by card or cash. Seating the customer is not that much easy between 6:30 to 10:30 at breakfast because we have normally 700 to 800 customers every day. Although Strand Palace Hotel has not only Curvery restaurant which is serving breakfast but also Johnson restaurant as well; everyday we face long queue problem. On the other hand, customers are waiting for having buffet in morning time that is not nice but we can’t manage it until now. From that experience, I have learnt that to get customers’ satisfactions is not that much easier even though we always try the best.
Lunch experience That day was my first time lunch time working experience in Curvery restaurant. Even though, my supervisor explained to me everything about menu, set menu, soup of the day and chef special main course, I was so excited and worry because lunch is more focus on customer service than breakfast buffet style. The customers give their comment on comment cards or online feedback about our service. If you got guests’ good feedback, you will win a smart card winner award for that month. The price will be one night stay at hotel with free lunch plus £20 vouchers and it forces staffs to concentrate on their duty and responsibility effectively.
Meeting with General Manager
As highly labour turnover in Strand Palace hotel, general manager announced to every departments to speak with all staffs (no manager, no supervisor). The meeting set for food and beverage department on 23/05/20011. In that meeting, the GM said that all staff could speak out what their problems, what they need, their dissatisfaction, any difficulties within their department such as not enough equipment, working shift problems and so on. From my point of view, this meeting got an approval of internal customers’ motivation. After two days later of meeting, there were some changes between every department such as extra equipment which we do need and fixed the flexible working hours. One of the good news for the staff was they has raised the salary for food and beverage assistant from £7.25 to £7.50 on 6/06/2011. The final result was some people have changed their mind of moving to other jobs.

Instuctional Strategies and Learning Materials

...Materials The training program for Dan McGuinness Irish Pub will be carried out by The manager, Brad O’Sullivan, and head server, Tony Ainsley. Both have had many years of experience in the restaurant and bar field, and will bring that experience to the table for the duration of the course. The company believes the best way to handle the training, is to treat everyone who participates as if they are brand new to the business. The company understands this may cause some of the more experienced participants to become frustrated, but the company believes everyone should start at the beginning and learn together. Instructional Strategies The management at Dan McGuinness believes it is important for the course to be informative, instructional, and just as important, fun. Much of the groundwork in the classes will be familiar to many of the more experienced personnel, however the company believes any member of staff coming into the business for the first time will benefit from the more experienced personnel. The first strategy to be put in place will be to set up learning teams; each team will include an experienced person as team leader. During the course of the program, there will be situational roll playing; this will be overseen by the experienced personnel because they will most likely have had experience in dealing with most situations the server, or bartender will have to deal with. The two main instructors, Mr. O’Sullivan, and Mr Ainsley, will teach their respective area...

Comparison Between Lockheed and Boeing

...Experiential Exercise: For this exercise, I chose to compare the websites of Boeing and Lockheed Martin. Two prominent companies in the aerospace and aviation industry, which is, and will most likely always be, the primary industry I'm employed in. Both companies' websites successfully convey information in a simplified and descriptive manner. With Lockheed Martin, there are navigational links for different levels of employment and experience levels, such as ex-military personnel transitioning into the civilian careers, new college graduates, interns, and experienced professionals. This simplifies the job search into a 'one-click' method in which interested applicants can view the opportunities that are available to their respective experience levels, as well as any further instructions for applying. Boeing, while also having links to different employment levels, seems more focused on communicating information about the company's ethics, history, and products. This field is based on staying on top of new technology and producing goods of exceptional quality, which means there is a . However, at some levels of both companies, there is a cost-leadership strategy in producing goods for the lowest cost and having employees more efficient than the other. Therefore, it appears that both companies are using a combination strategy, and doing so successfully. There seems to be an encouraged strong desire for entry level applicants with both companies, however, there...

In drawing out the commonalities of their experiences, we have begun to shed light on the terrain. Her tragic and untimely death showed us that workplace harassment can no longer be easily dismissed as a trivial problem. Definition Essay: The Value Of College Education

...Imagine an elderly person with glasses perched on their nose, rocking in an old chair on their front porch. Generally, in stories this person helps guide the main character to make the right decision. Although this is stereotypical and conventional wisdom, does a person automatically assume that they have all the answers in life? Or do you think that the person who learns from work experience does? Or the person who has the highest degree? In Webster's Dictionary it states that wisdom is accumulated philosophical or scientific learning: knowledge. So, does the person with the highest degree, skilled trades career, or someone who has experienced through age truly have wisdom? Let’s start with college education. By 2020 65% of all jobs will...
