Developing a Mobile Application for Online Courses at Becker Professional Education

Developing a Mobile Application for Online Review Courses at Becker Professional Education

Proposal This proposal will discuss the benefits of enhancing the now online training course into a mobile application, for Becker Professional Education. Currently, Becker uses a website portal for students to access their review materials. By developing a mobile application it would enhance the technology and allow students a more convenient way to review the courses not only online, but also through an application on their mobile device. The mobile application will not replace the online training through portal, but would enhance the students learning environment. Becker will not only see an increase in revenue by developing a mobile application for the software, it would also put the company of ahead of its competitors.
Discussion of Business Problem
The business problem that we need to solve is the slow product development. As of November 2012, Becker enhanced their review materials from standard textbook, and disc to online portal. Many of Becker competitors had already been using online training for their courses for some time now. This current online training does not give students the flexibility to use software on mobile devices. Currently the software can be download to work offline, however it is only available on PC computer, or Mac OS system. Students who wish to use the software on their mobile device have to be connected to internet in order to review their materials. This causes issues for those students who are on the go, and use their mobile device. If a student is not connected to internet they will not be able to access their software. This puts Becker behind with the current technology that is available today.

Managing Organizational Change

...Managing Organizational Change 1 Managing Organizational Change HRM 587 1 Managing Organizational Change Proposal For my topic, I will examine cultural changes within Ford Motors and Toyota from their inception to current day and their impact on company performance. Ford Motors was 2 established earlier than Toyota and was a driving force for innovation in the automotive industry. Post World War II Toyota built on Fords early concepts and took innovation and efficiency to new levels in the decades that followed. Henry Ford founded Ford Motors; early on they focused on process and developed the Ford System. “They took all the elements of a manufacturing system - - people, machines, tooling, and products - - and arranged them in a continuous system for manufacturing the Model T automobile.” (Strategos, 2012.) The Ford system focused on improving systems and processes to drive greater productivity and reduce errors. With the advent of labor unions and prosperity, conditions changed, but Ford failed to compensate for these changes. (Strategos, 2012.) Toyota later embraced Fords concepts and built upon them to create the Toyota Production System. Early on Ford focused on systems and process, the Toyota Production System expanded on those concepts by also focusing on people as a key resource. Taiichi Ohno was a key architect of the Toyota Production System and studied the Ford Production System early on. (Mann, D. 2005) I personally find this topic to be extremely...

The Effect of Change on Team Members

...The Effect of Change on Team Members Claude Lofton HRM 587 Week One Professor Romuald Stone May 10, 2015 I have decided to take the optional approach to the class project. I will be discussing the work schedule for the skilled team members at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas (TMMTX) in San Antonio Texas. This work schedule change was done to provide the company with more man hours to do maintenance on the equipment. I was involved in the change by providing feedback to the different options that were given to skill team members to vote on or give their version on how to increased man hours. And once the change was made I was working the new hours. The company had a minimum of hours that it thought were necessary to do maintenance on equipment (30,000 hours a year), it was not meeting those goals. Toyota thought process is that change to make a process work better for the company is something that should be always ongoing, so several ideas were brought up for discussion. At TMMTX when an idea for change is thought up it is goes through management and team members to get feedback of the proposal. None of the proposal or feedback that would change the proposal would increase the necessary man hours to do the work, so the suggestion from a team member that worked at DuPont suggested their work schedule. This schedule was looked at and passed through management and team members, than voted on and approved with a majority. The work schedule that skill...

Change Analysis

...Change Analysis Joseph Jackson HRM 587 September 14, 2014 Dr. John Anderson Change Analysis  Practitioners and writers like Lee Bolman, Terrence Deal, Gareth Morgan, and Mary Jo Hatch claim that the images that people hold of companies or organizations influence their interpretations of what they think is going on, what they think it has to happen and the way they think things ought to happen. The images can be seen as metaphors or frames that people hold in their minds. These images of change and of managing influence the ideas of people and what people think management of change is about. This paper discusses these images of managing change in relation to two organizations, the Microsoft Company and Apple Company. The facts from the week one proposal are that the drive for change for Microsoft Company is the rising level of competition that calls for a need to have differentiated and integrated products. When it was seen that only a few short years ago Microsoft had more money than Apple and less debt I am sure that shocked many people on the market. The information related to this is that the company has been able to develop integrated devices such as Windows phones and services like Bing. In order to have a range of products, the company acquired the mobile device sector of Nokia Corporation. On the side of the Apple Company, the drive for change is innovation and high tech pressures to be in a position to maintain its high levels of technology. As a result, the...

...HRM-587: Managing Organization Change Project Proposal Overview of Organizations Shataun Hailey September 14, 2015 In late 2008, Chrysler and General Motors announced to the world they were in danger of folding. At the time, our president, George W. Bush, agreed to a temporary bailout, but handed the auto companies' long-term future over to his successor, President-Elect Barack Obama. President Obama then lead a comprehensive bailout of the two companies that allowed them to stay in business but imposed numerous conditions that, it was intended, would secure their viability and allow the companies to eventually return to profitability. In an interview in the Detroit News (Shepard 2015), President Obama explained his decision this way: “There was clear-eyed recognition that we couldn't sustain business as usual. That's what made this successful. If it had been just about putting more money in without restructuring these companies, we would have seen perhaps some of the bleeding slowed but we wouldn't have cured the patient. The automobile industry was one of the most effected sectors during that recession. Chrysler and General Motors were pushed into bankruptcy and 276,000 jobs in the automobile and parts industry were destroyed. That equates to a whopping 36 percent of the total employment in the sector (CHU. T.H. & YINGZI, 2010). Not only were the jobs of all of GM and Chrysler's employees, but the jobs of people who worked for hundreds of suppliers, from stereo...

Images of Change

...Course Project Proposal The ideal of this project proposal is to compare and contrast General Motors and Ford which have undergone fairly substantial change in the recent past; and how they handled the pressure of change. Lapratt04@yahoo.com HRM-587-12043 Managing Organizational Change Professor Joseph Phillips Due September 7, 2014 Abstract Ford and GM experienced serious issues during the pre and post TARP causing them to restructure and change how they do business. Each of them reacted to these pressure differently. Ford Motor Company as one of the greatest automobile manufacturers of all time started under the leadership of Henry Ford in Detroit, Michigan. His first production was in 1903, the Model A, with an under the floor engine selling for $850. In the first season it sold 1,708 cars (HISTORY of Ford Motor Company, 2014). Whereas General Motors was founded in 1902 by William Durant, who saw that the automobile would one day replace the horse-drawn carriage. The company did not really catch on until 1908, and at first, it was just a Buick holding company. At the end of 1908, however, GM had acquired Oldsmobile, and in 1909, they bought Cadillac, Elmore, and Oakland. The early 1900s were a difficult time for auto manufacturers; the market crash of 1907 adversely affected a lot of small companies, which relied on the banks for credit. Durant saw the economic downturn as an opportunity; he bought smaller car makers, as well as companies that built auto accessories...

...The theory, research, and practice of Human Resource Management (HRM) has evolved considerably over the past century, and experienced a major transformation in form and function primarily within the past two decades. Driven by a number of significant internal and external environmental forces, HRM has progressed from a largely maintenance function, with little if any bottom line impact, to what many scholars and practitioners today regard as the source of sustained competitive advantage for organizations operating in a global economy. In this 25th anniversary Yearly Review issue, we conduct a less comprehensive and more focused review of the field of HRM. In doing so, we attempt to articulate some key concepts and issues that can be productively integrated with HRM to provide some interesting and important directions for future work, and consider ways to bridge the gap between the science and practice of HRM. © 1999 Elsevier Science Inc. Course Project

...Course Project Walt Disney and Netflix Michael Wilson Keller Graduate School of Management Managing Organizational Change HRM 587 Professor Swift Course Project Walt Disney and Netflix Course Project Proposal For my course project I choose Walt Disney and the Netflix companies. I choose these two companies because I believe they are both going through significant changes in the way they are offering forms of the entertainment they provide. How they respond to the external forces that are requiring them to change has been different based on their resources and the demand their customers have. One company has many years of providing entertainment to many generations who value their judgment delivering quality products through many different mediums. The other company is new to the entertainment providing industry and has changed how businesses in that industry think about what their customers need based on the changes in the new technology developed in the past few years. For Walt Disney the changes will be how to maintain a quality relationship with the generations of customers who have purchased their movies in different formats that are no longer adaptable in the newest technology. Can they convince the owners of the video tapes that ownership of their products in other formats is still the answer? For Netflix the changes include a system that goes against the need to own the products, but trust that they will provide the entertainment they want when and where...

...THE IMPACT OF COMPUTER-BASED ACCOUNTING SYSTEMS ON MALAYSIAN PUBLIC SECTOR AGENCIES BY WAN ZURIATI WAN ZAKARIA A thesis submitted to the School of Business and Law, Central Queensland University, Australia, for the fulfilment of the requirement of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) MAY 2014 ABSTRACT The positive and negative impacts of information technology (IT) have been continuously discussed and debated by researchers, practitioners and scholars for several years. In the public sector environment, IT can be a powerful tool for improving the delivery of government services with better collaboration among various governments. Therefore, the Malaysian Government, similar to many other governments, has planned and implemented a number of programmes to embrace the digital world by transforming itself to deliver information and services electronically. In public sector audit and accounting practices, the Malaysian Government has experienced local reform aimed at escalating transparency, streamlining accountability and improving overall financial management in line with international standards and practices. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of computer-based accounting systems (CBASs) on the effectiveness of performing accounting tasks by Malaysian public sector agencies (PSAs). This study focuses on the impact of performancebased outcomes at three levels: individual task, accounting-related task, and organisational level...
