For decades the public watched millions and millions of innocent humans being killed as a result of war. War is defined as an inhumane act to fulfill a leader’s selfish needs and goals. War never had an ultimate winner, both opposing sides had lost greatly and achieved minimally. Over the years many had argued that war is one aspect of the human’s life that cannot be avoided. Whereas others had argued that war could be easily avoided if the country had a good leader. This paper will outline good qualities of a good leader and take a stance on “war can be easily avoided with good leadership”, and how a leader can use other methods to grow their country economically and international without using violence and weapons.
When voting for a new leader, qualities of that individual must be closely examined as his character will affect the country’s condition in the future. According to the book Developing potential across a full range of leadership by Bruce J. Avolio and Bernand M.Bass , the top qualities of a good leader are :1. Determination; 2. Possessing extraordinary talent; 3.taking risks 4. Showing dedication 5.dealing with crisis using radical solution. These characteristics are the foundation of good leadership. Some leaders have possessed them stronger than others, and others may work to strength those characteristics to maintain stronger control over a certain situation.
One of the very predicaments of democracy is choosing the right leader. This is mentioned by Socrates in “the republic” by plato as he said that justice and injustice can be alike. In other words, some individuals may use their popularity in which they received by being productive (a just act) to their people. However, it becomes a predicament when those individuals use that just cause to produce injustice and that is being elected as leaders when others are more skillful at the job. For example, this is recently seen when celebrities use their popularity to run for certain government positions, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and his ruling of California. As a result of living in a democratic society, a good leader should be chosen by well informed and non-proud society. Society should not be loyal to parties, but only to their nation. This is very common in the United States, as people tend to vote for republicans or democrats because all their ancestors have been loyal to such groups. Most Americans don’t realize that these two major parties are backed by lobbyist groups. For example, part of the effort to bring the war against Iraq is dick cheney and his loyalty to black water (a private military contractor) which is ran by a hard line Christian who believes in apocalyptic/biblical prophecies. One must ask the reason for such wars to erupt, and from there we can prevent them. In the modern age, lobbyist must be weakened, and presidents must have stronger attachment with their own people. Wars can be prevented by the combination of: a strong leadership with stronger attachment to citizens of the state; and weakening the grip of lobbyist groups.
The media is a new factor that has emerged recently to play a role in creating propaganda for certain groups. Just until recently, the media has become a victim of a monopolized lobbying, and is a huge factor in misinforming citizens of good and bad leaders. Fox news is an important station as it has reportedly been financing certain elements of the Republican Party such as “the tea party movement”. Most of their news tends to be criticized by other news stations as leaning towards the far right. MSNBC on the other hand is leaning towards the left (democrats). Each station has their own agenda in establishing a self interest party. Journalism is not meant to bring the viewpoint of the journalist or the news anchors such as: Bill O’rielly, or Glen Beck. Such media plays a huge role in starting wars. For example, when George Bush began his war against Iraq under the impression that Saddam Hussein has nuclear weapons. The main problem here is the media played a key role in advertising such stand. This began a huge blind support for the war against Iraq, without realizing the lies behind such war. Responsible governments don’t lie to their own people, and honesty is part of leadership. During the Vietnam War, 57,000 good men died for the sake of a lie in which the US government initially said that it was as a result of the gulf of tungsten incident. As a result, honesty is a key point in ending wars, and not only should the leader be following it, but also government personnel’s and citizens of the state (voting for the right individual).
As mentioned previously in the introduction good leadership will minimize the chances of going to war. Instead of going to war or have some sort of negative relation with other countries, a leader can concentrate on his own country by developing it in every aspect, such as Working on developing and expanding their economical issues. While looking back at the United States in the past years, the US has gone into two major wars in the past 10 years: once with Iraq and second with Afghanistan. The idea might have been going to war will boost the economy, but instead the result was a dramatic failure in the economy as the funds for both war were too much for country’s economy to handle. As a result, ten years later the United States is still recovering from the economical depression it was put under, and its economy is still weak. The large sums of funds that were used towards the war had destroyed the American market, putting the country in more debt, the government had no plan to back up their economical failure, and as a result companies and banks had shut down, and thousands of citizens lost their jobs. Thus, the purpose of the American war was to gain more access to oil and natural resource, which would have had naturally stimulate the economy. However, the result of the war was the opposite of what was planned. The wars got out of control and more hatred was produced in the Middle East towards the US. The final results of the wars were chaotic cities and more political disruptions.
Good leadership means concentrating on the country’s well being. A good leader would care about flourishing their country out of its own resources, and concentrate on international relations. For example, the first step to good leadership is having good international relations. Peace treaties, frequent foreign visits and providing aid to other countries are a few of the many steps to good international relations. For example, when country A is in need and its on good terms with Country B, it will get all the aid it needs. Also, if a country A is in good relations with Country B, country B will never consider attacking and starting a war with country A. Therefore peace treaties and good international relations become very beneficial in times of need and it also plays as a self-defense system.
Also, if a good leader wished to increase economical flow into his country, they can start exporting and importing goods. Thus building the need of natural resources globally, and strengthening the relations in the world market with other countries. Thus, a war would never be an option to get access to more resources or gain political power. It is important to mention that war doesn’t necessarily occur from strong nations, but it can be the result of injustice caused by superpowers to make victimized nations rise up against it. A leader must have internal consciousness to ask if his own country is causing injustice to others. However, in a huge capitalistic society, this tends to be unrealistic, as economy is used for the advantage of the wealthiest. Take Haiti for instance, before 1990’s it was a nation that thrived from the rice and cement industry that was produced locally. The number of unemployed individual was very low compared to now. However, after the 1990’s US and other western companies began what the UN calls “dumping” rice and cement to the small nation at a staggering cheaper price than the local produce. This occurred after Haiti signed the free trade agreement, where tariffs on foreign goods were dropped. This caused many local farmers to go out of business, producing a huge number of homeless and underprivileged populations. Recently, many farmers are uniting with large number of citizens to fight against foreign goods. This has caused an economical injustice to the people of Haiti. Normally, when people feel oppressed, eventually they will rise up, just like the same idea that the Americans rose up against the British due to increase of taxes.
USA’s politics in the past 10 years has been an important controversial topic within international politics. Comparing George Bush leadership Vs. Obama’s leadership is very interesting and it clearly portraits good examples of good leadership. For example, during the leadership of Bush, USA went into two wars in hope of increasing economical flow and gain more access to natural oils. However, the fund for the military and money spent on the war had brought down the country’s economy to the ground and enter economical depression. Bush and his plan to go to war had put the USA in huge debts and had shut off many opportunities. On the other hand, ever since Obama took over the leadership he has been working very closely on flourishing USA’s economy once again. By increasing taxes and providing more jobs he has been slowly brining the USA back on its feet to become once again one of the strongest countries economically and politically.

In School Punishment

...Kid should not get spanked for Educational purposes. In this easy I will explain the pro/cons about spanking your children for punishment. I will comment about reasons yes and no for educational, self-esteem, and views at life. Your child’s education is effected by the way he/she are treated in the home. If he/she makes a mistake and bums a test at school. He/she knows when they get home they are going to get beat on the but. There for they won’t want to go home leading to the runaways. On the other hand when the kids get a couple smacks on the hand (but) it makes them realize “oh.. I’m not supposed to be doing that.” They also know “if I don’t do that again, I won’t get in trouble” the next time it comes around and they will study harder. Self-esteem is not only effected by peer pressure, or bully’s at school but with parents hitting them every time they tell a little white lie kids believe they shouldn’t get punished for “nothing”. For some spanking means hitting the kid anywhere on the body as long as you get the message through to the kid. What may be “Ok you hit me, big deal” one kid might say, be a terror of pain for one other. What I’m telling you is that one kid might think that they are used to the hitting so the punishment becomes ineffective. For others they can’t stand getting their parents mad at...

The Worst Discipline

...The worst and painful discipline ever is spanking, but it is one also of the most debatable discipline methods and one of the oldest disciplinary actions throughout many decades. Spanking is a method of punishment in which an adult inflicts pain upon a child in response to their unsatisfactory behavior. At times, children forget to practice good behavior skills or they disobey their parent’s rules and commands, which results in being disciplined. As a frustrated parent continues to repeat commands and try’s to reason with the child it increases their frustration levels quite often. Most parents try their best to teach their child to understand what acceptable behavior is and what is unacceptable. When children are constantly disobedient, acting out at school or in public places, it makes the parent look bad and feel bad. At times, an anxious child likes to stick things in his or her pockets that do not belong to him or her or the child do not like to share things, when the time is appropriate. When out of control a child tends to talk back often trying to push the parent’s limits. After being loud, out of control and defiant continuously after being warned about a problem or punished in a less severe way repeatedly before actually being spanked, If the child still does not want to be obedient after the necessary steps have been taken then they should receive a more severe discipline such as a spanking. The process of spanking is a very agonizing and tormenting process. The...

Diciplining Your Child

...We were all kids once and we all know that we liked to push the limits to see what we can get away with. If you are over a certain age chances are you were spanked as a child. Maybe you were disciplined with a swat of the hand or maybe even a belt, switch, or hairbrush. These days, a lot of people might consider that abuse. But few of us really know what the law actually says about spanking or just disciplining your child in general. The main purpose of this report is to address an area of confusion is that most of us as parents, and even the public, are not educated on the laws when it comes to disciplining your children. I am here to argue that as a parent, once educated on the law, you can discipline your child as you should; and not fear being charged with child abuse. You will also be able to shut your kid’s traps if they threatened to call the authorities on you. Most of the kids that attempt this only get this from other kids that only know part of the law and again their parents aren’t educated on it, they are just plain scared. There is a child discipline law in every state. The laws in every state pretty much say the same thing. As a matter of fact some of them are almost worded the same. In this instance I will tell you what the Texas state law says. This was taken from the website, “kidjacked.com/legal/spanking law.asp#texas” “Abuse does not include reasonable discipline by a parent/guardian/managing or possessory conservator...

...Kimberly Tucker, Chris Salt, Ashley Solomon Case 7: Mattel: Overcoming Marketing and Manufacturing Challenges 11/01/2010 Marketing Management 6800 Section 004 The Problem: The problem surrounding Mattel Inc., one of the world’s largest toy companies, is their mismanagement of international subcontractors and vendors and the production of certain toys (the manufacturing process), as well as their inability to adapt their marketing strategy or product to the constantly changing “demographic and socioeconomic trends” (Ferrell, et. all 466). This is supported by Mattel’s legal battle with Carter Bryant and MGA, their forced recall of certain toys that were manufactured overseas, and the increasing rate at which traditional toys are becoming less appealing to today’s young audience. Essentially, Mattel’s mismanagement and oversight lead to violations in terms of ethical and social responsibilities and safety standards. Issues Relevant to the Problem: Mattel’s problem of mismanagement can be divided into several issues that need to be considered: legal issues, international supply chain issues, and an increase in technology-based toys. In regards to legal issues, Mattel has been involved in prolonged litigation with Carter Bryant and MGA over a breach of an employment contract and copyright infringement. Due to Mattel’s poor management of its overseas manufacturers, in which unauthorized subcontractors and third-party suppliers were hired and unsafe materials used, several...

I was born in Cua Viet, a small town in Vietnam. I am the 5th child among the 5 children of my parent. I grew up and spent almost my whole life in my country. Now, I am the second year student in Business Accounting- the 2 year program. I have been through many life-changing situations in past 3 years. Descriptive Hate for Work

...Freddy Rodriguez Prof. Chamberlain English 063 16 Oct, 2012 My Hate for Work We all deal with some sort of issue that makes our work experience negative. In my case its cooking at a restaurant where all you hear is kids screaming uncontrollably from the control point window in the grill, the fog coming from both the fryer and grill, and last, but not least the “pushing and shoving” from the grill team when we’re pulling off a thousand dollar hour. If you haven’t guessed yet, its Friendly’s “Where ice cream makes the meal”... and my hate for people. I’m just kidding, but I don’t like rude people; like if I’m nice to you why can’t you return the nice gesture? Anyways (back on track) its crazy how many sounds you hear, things you see and objects you feel within a five hour shift that actually feels like two because of working through a rush period. Children children children, I hate them. Hate is a strong word? Trust me I KNOW! I cannot fathom the loud screaming that sounds like metal to metal screeching; all because mommy won’t them get ice cream. The sad part is that I work in the grill and its sort of tucked away in the back. Imagining the intensity of the screaming? Quite horrible isn’t it? As if the loud grinding gears of their voices isn’t enough, I have the pleasure of watching them run around like its free game day at chuck e cheese or something. The only part I enjoy of them running around like maniacs is seeing the huge bright shiny smile on their faces, it makes...

Most Influential Person

...Narrowing down to on person who had had an impact on my life is a difficult task, and one that requires a lot of thought. There have been many, but as I travel back through my memories, one person stands out above the rest, my mother. Whether in the classroom or at home, that one individual continuously shines. She knows how to help me when a problem arises, she is there to pick me up when I fall, and she is there as my biggest supporter when all is going well. She always seems to know when to push me or when to just step back and allow me to learn life lessons. One example of her driving me to do my best is a time that I had an extremely tough exam in Chemistry. This was a must pass test and to make it worse, it was over a chapter where I struggled. I came close to giving up and failing the test, but somehow my mom knew I was fighting this battle. She came to me and explained how giving up would interfere with my dream of going to college. It might not keep me out of college, but it would set my standards lower than they needed to be. My mom did not force me to study, but instead, she allowed me to make a decision that would effect me right then and possibly in the future. My mom has made a huge impact in my life in such a positive way. She has pushed me to where I am now. Through her example and our many talks, I have learned that hard work and perserverance can and will take you a long way in this world. I did pass that...

It means that there are not many details in the sentence, but that the sentence introduces an overall idea that you want to discuss later in the paragraph. For example, suppose that you want to write a paragraph about the natural landmarks of your hometown. The first part of your paragraph might look like this: My hometown is famous for several amazing natural features. First, it is noted for the Wheaton River, which is very wide and beautiful. Also, on the other side of the town is Wheaton Hill, which is unusual because it is very steep. (Notice how the first sentence begins with "My hometown..." a few spaces to the right of the paragraph edge. This is an indentation. All paragraphs in English MUST begin with an indentation.) Yes, I’ve been dreaming to become one someday and I am trying to give my very best for this not to become an unclear vision. As I’ve said on my recent posts, I love to go somewhere, I love to experience different culture, and I want to meet new and different people. There are some times in my life when I face mirror, stand classically and gracefully and try to imitate flight attendants posture and speaking. I used to act like there are passengers and I am orienting them with safety procedures inside the plane. To train to become a flight attendant costs so much, that’s why my parents wasn’t able to send me to those schools practicing this course. But I’ve got this what they called life’s principle. Julia's Tribute

...For those of you that don't know me my name is Brittany. I work at The Willows at Citation where I took care of Julia. For the short 3 months and 11 days that I knew Julia. I've learned something that no book could possibly ever teach me. On our Journey together I was constantly being moved and touched in ways that I often cannot describe. To live with Alzheimer's and still laugh, love and find joy is nothing short of amazing. I never got that chance to meet Julia when she was full of life and energy. Instead God blessed me with Julia on May 6th of this year. God had also blessed me with the ability to really connect with Julia. I spent many nights by her bedside, I've spent many hours listening, I've shared many tears with her daughter's and I've experienced many lifelong connections. Julia taught me the importance of living in the moment and finding joy in the small things. No two minutes were alike. Things were constantly changing and it put us on the wildest roller coaster ride imaginable. I must say it took a while and I'm sure I'm speaking for a few others when I say this but I came to realize that in order to survive, you must live in the moment and appreciate each and every good thing that happens, no matter how small. My Life to Save

...Prologue I leaned over the toilet for the fourth time this morning spilling whatever was left in my stomach. I dry heaved for the next five minutes trying to rid whatever was giving me this ill feeling. Once I finished I wiped the sweat off my forehead and laid back against my cold tub. It felt good against my warm skin. I removed my sweat drenched shirt and just laid against the tile floor. I have never experience such pain and nausea in my life. I didn’t want to think about the many possibilities that could be wrong with me. "Ki you alright?" asked my eight year old brother behind my bathroom door. "Yes boo just go get me a bottle of water." I could hear him scurrying off down the stairs to the kitchen. I tried my best to stand up but I just felt too weak. All of a sudden my body grew very tired and I couldn’t get my body to move. I heard my door open and a scream. "Mom, Dad hurry!" yelled my brother Jasone. I didn’t understand why he was screaming until I followed his horrified eyes down to my floor and there was blood everywhere. I slowly reached up to touch my nose and I felt the blood all over my hands and I knew something was definitely wrong. My brother rushed over to me and held my head in his lap as he cried. I tried to reach up and touch him but it all hurt too much. "Lord please I’m not ready to die." I said to myself. "Mom!!" my brother cried out again. That was where I wanted to be; or was it where I would be after I knocked the door? I sighed and walked to the side where there was a wooden bench by the beautiful garden. I could see that the woman in the family loved the garden. The smell of white lilies reminded me of the florist down the road on Sixteenth Street. I sat on the sturdy looking wooden bench, trying to figure out what I would say if someone was to open the door.
