Introduction Explain the issue you are examining and why it is significance

The issue we chose to examine is the possible connection between children with learning disabilities and juvenile crime. We feel researching the possible correlation between these two serious issues may help lead to more research of the topic and possibly prevention of juvenile crimes. Learning disabilities come in many forms the following are a few we have found through researching each of these disabilities has its own symptoms. * Dyslexia, * Dysgraphia * Dyscalculia * Dyspraxia (Sensory Integration Disorder) * Nonverbal Learning Disability * CAPD (Central Auditory Processing Disorder) * Visual Processing Disorder * ADD or ADHD (Attention Deficit Disorder) * Autism
(http://drlindasblog.com/list-of-learning-disabilities/)
Add to the symptoms of these disabilities, the circumstances of life that some children face such as poverty, single parent homes, some are in foster care or group homes because their families can’t care for them, all of these things can contribute to the stress of the lives of children with learning disabilities which can in turn lead them to commit crimes very early in life. According to research done by the “National Center for State Courts” * Between 30 and 50 percent of all "officially adjudicated juvenile delinquents" nationally are learning disabled (LD). * Young learning-disabled males appear before a judge more than twice as often as non-learning-disabled males. * Adolescents handicapped by learning disabilities are "at high risk for delinquency.”

Research Proposal, Part I

...Research Proposal, Part I Rodriquez Richmond Don Fairbee Courtney Westmoreland CJA/334 - RESEARCH METHODS IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE JOHN FERRANTE May 2, 2013 Introduction Correctional inmates engage in drug-related and sexual risk behaviors, and the transmission of HIV, hepatitis, and sexually transmitted diseases occurs in correctional facilities. However, there is uncertainty about the extent of transmission, and hyperbolic descriptions of its extent may further stigmatize inmates and elicit punitive responses. Whether infection was acquired within or outside correctional facilities, the prevalence of HIV and other infectious diseases is much higher among inmates than among those in the general community, and the burden of disease among inmates and releases is disproportionately heavy. A comprehensive response is needed, including voluntary counseling and testing on request that is linked to high-quality treatment, disease prevention education, substance abuse treatment, and discharge planning and transitional programs for releases. General area being studied Sexual activity among inmates is a complex phenomenon that occurs along a continuum, from the entirely consensual to the violently coerced. The New York Times detailed a gang-run system of sexual slavery in a Texas prison, where at least 1 gay inmate claimed he was bought and sold......

...Research Critique Part 1 Alisa Rogers Grand Canyon University Introduction to Nursing Research NRS 433V June Helbig July 28, 2013 Research Critique Part 1 Children are vulnerable in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and experience pain when not needed. The nurses and physicians lack of knowledge about how critical illness affects the signs and symptoms of children’s pain Problem Statement The clinical problem eluded that there is little known in the pediatric intensive care (PICU) settings of the nurses knowledge of pain in critically ill children. It is known that the knowledge of pain and quality of care given for pain alleviation is relevant. Not much is known regarding the nurses clinical learning patterns. Nurses used judgments in measuring pain in a variety of ways and it was found that their clinical judgments came from different levels of understanding and diverse aspects of pain. These assumptions lead to the aim of the study: to elucidate patterns in clinical knowledge development and unfold the role of the nurse as facilitator in relation to pain management in the PICU. (Mattsson, Forsner, Castren, Bolander Laksov, & Arman, 2012, p. 109) It is known that working in a PICU that nurses rely on each other and what they perceive as pain in a child may not be actual pain. Overtime clinical knowledge is developed with different encounters with patients and their families. The nurses need to focus more on their individual learning practices to...

...Research Critique Part 1 Jenna Franz Grand Canyon University Introduction to Nursing Research NRS-433V Mary O'Connell September 5, 2013 Research Critique Part 1 This paper will critique a qualitative research study published in the Journal of Medical Ethics in 2004, By Dr Helen Aveyard, about how nurses manage patients who refuse nursing care procedures. The article explains how nurses view informed consent as not being essential to nursing care procedures. Problem Statement The clinical problem being examined in the research study is the way in which nurses obtain consent prior to administering nursing care procedures, and the way nurses manage patients who refuse any nursing care procedures. By stating that nurses “do not regard obtaining consent as an absolute requirement” also stating that “consent is preferred but no considered essential” the significance is established and a clinical problem identified.(Aveyard, 2004, p. 346) The author identifies the need for further education of nurses on the need to obtain informed consent for nursing care procedures, and the need for more research of this topic. Purpose and Research Questions The study clearly identifies the aim of the study as “to examine the way in which nurses manage patients who refuse nursing care procedures.”(Aveyard, 2004, p. 346) The study identifies two main purposes for the research study as: 1- To examine how consent is obtained prior to nursing care procedures, 2- To explore the ways......

Understanding Business Research Terms and Concepts: Part 1

...Understanding Business Research Terms and Concepts: Part 1 RES/351 April 13, 2015 The methodology used in a business study depends on the type of business research being conducted. Business researchers utilize numerous approaches to obtain information and decipher data. Two popular approaches used in business research are the qualitative research approach and the quantitative research approach. Both of these approaches to business research can be beneficial or may cause inconclusive results because of unforeseen variables. Qualitative Approach The qualitative approach or interpretive research approach main purpose is to build a theory or gain an understanding of the issue that is researched (Cooper, 2014). Using the qualitative approach can require the researcher to have debt involved with the research process typically as a participant in the study (Cooper, 2014). The qualitative approach draws data are many sources such as; people, organizations and institutions, settings or environment, published text, objects, and events (Cooper, 2014). This approach has a small sample size (Cooper, 2014). This methodology has less planning; therefore, the results may vary (Cooper, 2014). Research studies using this method are not always consistent and may be modified during the study (Cooper, 2014). An advantage to the qualitative approach is the small sample sizes because of the small sizes; the time for data analysis can also be shortened (Cooper, 2014). According to......
