1. What are the different forms of social media that exist today? Provide examples of different social media and their primary purposes. The different social media that exist in today’s world. For example, photo sharing, blogging, social bookmarking, wiki, social networking and video sharing and this is just a few. The reason for photo sharing lets a person sharing photos with family, friends, and other public; Blogging let people talk online about any topic freely. Social bookmarking give people the opportunity to share their favorite content online. Wiki site make it were people to work together all over the world. Social networking is a kind of community for people on the internet such as Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace. Video sharing is kind of like photo sharing such as YouTube.

2. What are the greatest benefits of social media for individuals and society? Social media is a large beneficial to a person and society for several reasons. One of the largest benefits to people in social media is the ability to stay in touch with family and friends. The people do not have to be in the same place, town, state they can be mile and mile always. Other good reason of society media is advertise items across the world to help people to products their merchandise to other around the world. Society media help companies to access to millions of customers. Social media is very beneficial to both individual and the society.

3. What are the greatest problems of social media for individuals and society? Social media is a source of several problems between people and collective society. For example social media can and will cause many of problems and drama. Another large harm of social media is the ability for people to spread bad news about a person or people, and spreading bad info about a company. The chances for scams are burglary on the rise because of social networking sites. This kind of issues can lead to suspicion and people do not want to socialize with other new people. This makes large problems in our social media for society and individual.

4. How have modern social media sites affected commerce? Include positive and negative examples in your answer. Social media websites have affected commerce in both positive and negative and positive ways. I would see the most positive way as also the most negative. Take the example of internet advertising. It is most positive when the advertisements cater to your direct needs based off of the things you search for, however when people, and children find sites that they should not, those are the type of advertisements they will receive. The other negative aspect that is time to this is that I feel personal privacy is being breeched for the same of commerce.

5. How has the Internet changed the way many Americans consume information? Explain the importance and value of the availability of information on the Internet.

You have Facebook, twitter, Oovoo, Skype, Google, yahoo, Bing, and many many more. The internet has changed the way many Americans consume information because now we have a lot of the answers right at our fingertips and in less than three seconds. We have Facebook to communicate with friends and family and get the latest gossip information, twitter is to get the latest information on celebrities, Oovoo and Skype is to meet new people and to stay in touch with friends and family, Google and yahoo is to find information on anything that your mind desires from clothes and fashion all the way to news information.

6. How might you determine if information found online is trustworthy? Describe credibility issues with information found on the Internet. There are many ways to notice or see if a site is trustworthy and or credible. We all know the sacred website that is forbidden to use, Wikipedia; you can use this source to maybe get the idea of what you are looking for but we all know not to fully get information from this site because it can be changed at any time by anybody. It is good to look for sites that end in .edu, .gov because you know that these sites are government owned and credible and also look for sites that do not have advertisements on the page. After looking at these sites then you will be able to notice what is trustworthy or not.

7. In what ways have politicians used the Internet in campaigning and in staying in touch with constituents? What is the overall effect of the Internet on politics? The one way the politicians used the internet in their campaign is to see what politicians is in the lead and another way is to spread and advertise their ads across the world for votes. This will help the politicians stay in touch with constitutions. The overall effect that the internet plays on politics is to help make the politicians to spread their campaigns, to make millions of people vote for them, and to help the people know more about the voting process. The bad things about the internet are the spreading and editing of pages that are not true about the candidates.

8. Newspapers, once available only in print, have evolved into 24-hour multimedia operations. In addition to newspapers, briefly describe the evolution of movies, television, Internet, books and magazines, and media companies throughout the last century. The evolution of movies, television, internet, books, magazines, and media has changed and evolved so much since so long ago that it is amazing! Television and movies went from black and white all the way to computer animatronics and green screens and talking animals. Magazines provide more information and more points of view. To be honest I love books and I do not think that they have changed much; maybe they have gotten better as in more up to date stories but they are still great and never needed to change as much but the entertainment is a lot better.

9. What is media convergence? Provide an example of media convergence and explain the media elements that are being combined. Explain how the combination of media elements in your example may be useful and to whom. Media Convergence- phenomenon involving the interlocking of computing and information technology companies, telecommunications networks, and content providers from the publishing worlds of newspapers, magazines, music, radio, television, films, and entertainment software. Media convergence brings together the “three Cs”—computing, communications, and content. Converged communication provides tons of tools for storytelling and it allows consumers to select the levels of interactivity. The audience can now control when and how they are able to access and relate to all sorts of information

10. How has media convergence changed American culture? Entertainment has brought many benefits and challenges to American culture. Television has been around since the 1950’s and has pretty much been the main source of entertainment and information. Television has helped create the future culture on magazines and for many books because some movies are so good they remake special editions of books so the readers can feel the experience that the viewers feel. People gather together to watch movies and especially the super bowl at parties, get togethers, and most people like to go to bars to watch television. The list of entertainment goes on and on and it is being transported to our houses everyday changing lives and the way we all live and react to life as we know it.

11. Explain how music and culture influence one another. Provide an example of a song or album that affected culture. Provide examples of songs with cultural references. There are many cultures that use music as a symbol to contact spirits and use them as ritual dances. Many cultures have different dances like Latin is originated from the Latin culture. An example of a song that has a cultural reference is Michael Jackson’s song, “We are the world.” And another song Michael Jackson’s song, “They don’t really care about us.” There are many cultural songs that if only people would listen the world would actually be a better place.

12. A big part of how pop music affects culture involves how it is distributed. Briefly describe how pop music and music distribution has changed over the last century. Pop music and music distribution has changed so much over the last century. It went from bad to worst. It was ok when pop pretty much only talked about love and small gangs but now it has changed into sex, drugs, money and when I say that I mean it has really capitalized the meaning of these things because back then it was talked about but not used as vulgar as it is today. Music has made its turn for the worst and my opinion it will only get worst from now till the future.
