In the beginning of the article “Bad stress, good stress” the author Sasha Bonsor (from now on referred to as SB) illustrates one way of coping with stress by using an example of Piers Morgan and his aggressive approach while being put under pressure. SB deals with the implications stress can cause and how, nowadays, the word “stress” has become a frequently used and much-abused term in most peoples everyday-life compared to the past. This she emphasizes by showing a financial statistic on how radically the stress-factor has developed in the UK. In the article the stress term and the issues it entails are being defined - so is the different ways of coping with stress. The term “psychologically flexibility” plays a pivotal role in the text. If you are good a managing stress, you are capable of using your stress in a constructive manner, and therefore you possess a healthy “psychologically flexibility” whereas people with the opposite is bad at handling stress. In the end SB incudes different specialist in this field who seem to/have the same opinion as agree in the interpretation: “if you want to live long and healthy, don’t settle into routines”.

In the four text presented in assignment A. different elements and views concerning stress is being put up against each other. Work occurs to be an essential factor when it comes to dealing with stress in many cases; this is evident in text 1 “Mind & body this week: Danger: stress at work by” Eilish O’Reagan, where it states that peoples occupations has a great influence on how different the stages of stress are relating different professions. This text clarifies that in some jobs you aren’t as capable of showing emotions and true feeling as you might be in other jobs. They mention that a prison officer is expected to hold on to a lot of stress, but that the clerical staff involved is also under pressure. Generally people who works in public and interact with other people, tend to have a higher level of stress, because they are forced to remain professional at all circumstances. Researches also illustrate that if you are an ambitious persona, lives in the present moment and looks into the future instead of the past, you are in a lower group of risk. This text also focusses on what you can do to provide stress for example by saying “no”. In text 3 “Stress relief” it is the family whom are being put in the hot seat. Nowadays the nuclear family wonders so considerably about how the stress occurs that they don’t even realize that they are the creators of it. Families are important, but the values of it as slowly fainting in expensive vacations, work, school, daily routines and a constant need of filling up the weekends and holidays with social activities, the weekends which ones were supposed to be about relaxation in the bosom of the family. The parents are working harder, longer and more intense, to fulfill the stressful needs of the family, which might lead to a tense and family atmosphere. In this text a picture on the modern family is created and the context seem to be that families nowadays have forgotten the essence of what real family-time is, in a stressful everyday life where there isn’t enough time. In the last text “stress can be good for you… but not for long” the dangerous and more life damaging sides to stress are described. People who experience a life where they are forced to face tough realities, such as being a refugee from war, a spouse to a person suffering from a severe disease and people with mental scars, often suffer from longer lasting more traumatizing stress. This text, put up against the text “bad stress, good stress” which deals with the fact that small and maybe shallow amounts of stress can be good for one’s health, shows a perspective of the more crucifying consequences stress can be the manufacture of, how peoples immune system, cells and identity is in danger of being radically damaged by stress.
“If you want to live long and healthy, don’t settle into routines”
It isn’t possible for anyone to look at one case only, and draw conclusions. Humans are incomparable. But if you study some of the texts it makes sense that in a long time of period it isn’t healthy for you to settle your life into routines. The psychical flexibility is a good picture on how people cope with stress in considerably different ways and how it is good to face your fears. To some people an unstructured everyday life can be mentally frightening. When everything only appears to be an uphill struggle pressured and stressed people tend to close their eyes, which isn’t a solution.
How to manage stress as a student
“English paper- done! Math’s assignment…. Nearly done! 20 heavy pages in history class concerning WW1 for tomorrow - and I am still looking at the front page. Oh dear! are we having a biology test today? Suddenly I’ve got a headache and a weird feeling to my stomach!” Plus the examinations are in a few weeks….
We all know the feeling, us students, and sometimes all we feel like doing is putting off the morning alarm and homework just a few ages ahead. I will use the word stress carefully, but quite frankly, nowadays more and more youngsters/students is undergoing different stages of mental pressure which in a young age can seem overwhelming. Stress as a student is often caused by high expectations from ones surroundings; and certain students tend to feel lonely when sometimes all there is to life is a school responsibility pondering on their shoulders. Examinations are the “number 1 killers”. The easiest way of getting out of it could be quitting? And simply walk away from whatever is causing that unstoppable headache. But there shouldn’t be a need for that. You are not alone. Thousands of other students are, or have been in a similar position. It helps finding people you can talk to about it, people whom you can relate to and the other way around. The social factor plays a huge role in the young students every day, friends/family and our close ones are our greatest tool when it comes to dealing with difficulties in life, so why not use them when you are stressed? Try and take a time-out once in a while but never turn your back or close your eyes on the challenges your dealing with. And attempt on not facing it alone.
