Epidemic Paper

There are a lot of different things that are harmful to us, but stokes can happen to anyone at any age. Finding out how it is transmitted, how our body can protect us from these conditions, also the symptoms and duration of the condition. Talking about this condition is something I can relate to due to my mother, but it happens all over the world. There are many risk factors that make these conditions hard for the risk factors to be controlled. There are ways to change the factors that you can to improve your health and wellness. Strokes aren’t so much as transmitted but they can be passed down through history of the family. Strokes are a very big deal, if you are older you have a very higher risk at having strokes. Strokes are the fifth leading causes of deaths in the United States, mainly due to people not taking care of themselves and their health. Although, strokes are not a communicable disease but can be common if it runs in your family. Strokes are a mental thing and can be caused by a lot of things, a stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is blocked or when the vessel is ruptured causing the brain tissue to die. According to (CDC) the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that (“over 800,000 people have a stroke each year, and one American dies from a stroke every 4 minutes on average”). This is unbelievable I couldn’t believe how common strokes were in America. Things can always be changed to better prevent the risks of the conditions. How our body protects us from the disease is interesting though. Our body has so many different ways of fighting back on a lot of different conditions. Eating right and staying healthy is the first step towards preventing strokes, this will keep the body with nutrients. Things like eating a healthy diet, getting enough exercise, not smoking, and limiting alcohol use are all different ways of preventing strokes. Strokes are all in the head and they can occur at any moment. When the stroke occurs the blood vessels will be blocked and cells may began to die off, then main arteries began to fail. If people take care of themselves and get their health checked on people could be a bit more aware of the risks. If the body is healthy and you are feeling physically fit you will feel better about overcoming strokes, motivation also helps the mental aspect of these conditions. There are other things that can cause these risk factors to be increased. Things like stress, being overweight, not eating properly, smoking, these are all bad risk factors that can cause strokes. I would like to discuss the symptoms and the duration of strokes and there conditions. Symptoms are key to stopping strokes and preventing bad things from occurring. As stated by the (NIH) National Institute of Health( “Finding the symptoms of a stroke are straight forward things like, difficulty breathing, being unable to move, loss of consciousness, and also seizures”). These symptoms are very common and severe, sometimes it is shocking to witness. Strokes can be treated over time because not all strokes are deadly and don’t always cause death. This is why people are trying to stay healthy and help up with their health, strokes can occur at any moment. There really is no way of knowing how long a stroke can occur or when it will. This is why it is recommended that you keep up with your health and for people that are high risk should try to keep their stress to a minimum. People also recommend that people who have strokes should be under supervision and attended to and taken care of due to the risk they are in because of different conditions. This is why strokes are so deadly if they aren’t attended to and taken care of. The best thing people could do for themselves is take care of things that matter such as their health. I did not know how often strokes occur until researching and finding out a lot more on this topic. It has given me inspiration to do better on my health as they say it can occur at any age to anyone. Finding out how it is transmitted, how our body can protect us from these conditions, also the symptoms and duration of the condition, are keys to knowing how to prevent this condition and how to be more alert on your health.

...Economics Discussion how a Epidemic can affect a country's economy The countries involved in an epidemic will immediately suffer in a population crisis where the average age of mortality decreases. More children will be born dead or carrying the TB at a very early stage. Countries that were mentioned in the context are most of them developing countries for instance India, Indonesia and South Africa. Poor average education and high unemployment are huge percent numbers in these countries and a epidemic could cause even more problems with the labor in a country if adults are dying. Result of these problems will eventually lead to a non-consumed agricultural resources since the eventual transmission of knowledge will fail in shortage of both labor and competent people. 1967 United Kingdom Foot-and-Mouth Outbreak

...The 1967 United Kingdom foot-and-mouth outbreak was a major outbreak of foot and mouth disease in the United Kingdom. The only centre of the disease, in contrast to the three concentrated areas in the 2001 crisis, was on the Wales border with Shropshire.[1] France and other EU countries were also affected by the crisis.[ Background There were three official inquires into the foot-and-mouth epidemics and the Government’s response in the fifty years prior to the 1967 outbreak. These occurred in 1922, 1923-1924, and 1953.[2] In the 1950s, there was a substantial outbreak across the United Kingdom. Of the thirteen years leading up to the 1967 outbreak, there were only two years that there was no reported outbreak.[2] During this period, foot-and-mouth was prevalent across Europe. Outbreak In October 1967, a farmer from Bryn Farm in the county of Shropshire, concerned by the health of one of their sows, sought veterinary advice and the animal was found to have contracted foot-and-mouth disease. Bryn Farm was immediately put into quarantine and general animal movement was banned. The virus rapidly spread to the nearby Ellis Farm. Two cows from the latter had already been sent to market, leaving the farmers in a vulnerable position.[3] In the following months, over 2,364 outbreaks were detected in the United Kingdom.[4] Ninety-four percent of the cases occurred in North-West Midlands and North Wales.[2] Reports The Minister for Agriculture, Frederick Peart, appointed a committee...

...The infectious agent I chose was Meningococcal meningitis “A bacteria of meningitis, a serious infection of the thin lining that surrounds the brain and spinal cord.” ( There was a recent outbreak reported in June of this year in Chicago. I wanted to pick this due to how close it is to my home, not enough to spread this close to me, still I was recently in Chicago and it was interesting to see how a place that big could have been infected so easily. “Meningococcal meningitis is caused by the bacteria Neisseria meningitidis (also known as meningococcus). Most cases of meningococcal meningitis occur in children and teens.” ( Because of the cases mostly occur in children and teens it will lead to a greater chance of it occurring in adulthood as well. Outbreaks occur when there are large amount of people in an area most commonly colleges, boarding schools, or even military bases. The infectious agent is transmitted easy enough that a single case or even two can result in an outbreak in a dense enough area. “Meningococcal disease is spread from person to person by exchanging respiratory and throat secretions (saliva or spit) during close (for example, coughing or kissing) or lengthy contact, especially if living in the same household. Thankfully, these bacteria are not as contagious as germs that cause the common cold or the flu. Childhood Obesity Epidemic Paper

...Obesity is considered to be a global epidemic that is linked to early mortality and severe morbidity rates (Ko et al., 2007). The prevalence of childhood obesity in the United States has increased a lot over the last thirty years. This causes a problem, since being obese may create other problems for these youths as adults, specifically diabetes and chronic illness. There are many causes for obesity: increased access to foods high in fats and sugars, larger portion sizes, increased calorie intake, and sedentary lifestyles (Sylvetsky et al., 2013). Obesity increases the risk of several chronic illnesses, some that can even be fatal diseases. Furthermore, obesity is currently one of the most avoidable causes of morbidity (Miles, Rapoport, Wardle,...

...writing. In fact, the three universities that I have attended in the past have all required me to use the APA style of writing. As I recall my high school years, the APA style of writing also seemed to be a favorite amongst my high school teachers. They all required that term papers be written in APA style as well. This type of writing actually does not differ much from the ones included in the text reading. The text mentioned the APA style of writing several times. In my opinion, it appears to be the most popular style of writing, especially amongst college students. Based on the results of the quizzes, my grammar skills were actually a little better than average. I actually had expected to do better, but I guess my grammar skills are not as good as I thought they were. In any event I feel very confident when it comes to spelling, as I have always been a great speller. Even in grade school, I was a good speller. I learned at a very young age to challenge myself when it comes to spelling. Challenging my-self in that area really paid off as I became older, as I’ve never had a problem with spelling. However, I feel that I need more help with run on sentences and with thought patterns. Though I proof read my paper several times, it’s hard for me to see that I have several run on sentences until after I get my grade back. In general, I feel that my writing is just mediocre. However, I also believe that when it comes to writing, I am my own worst critic. Reason being, I am never...
