IF TOMORROW COMES by Sidney Sheldon, ©1985 BOOK ONE Chapter 01 New Orleans THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20--- 11:00 P.M. She undressed slowly, dreamily, and when she was naked, she selected a bright red negligee to wear so that the blood would not show. Doris Whitney looked around the bedroom for the last time to make certain that the pleasant room, grown dear over the past thirty years, was neat and tidy. She opened the drawer of the bedside table and carefully removed the gun. It was shiny black, and terrifyingly cold. She placed it next to the telephone and dialed her daughter's number in Philadelphia. She listened to the echo of the distant ringing. And then there was a soft "Hello?" "Tracy... I just felt like hearing the sound of your voice, darling." "What a nice surprise, Mother." "I hope I didn't wake you up." "No. I was reading. Just getting ready to go to sleep. Charles and I were going out for dinner, but the weather's too nasty. It's snowing hard here. What's it doing there?" Dear God, we're talking about the weather, Doris Whitney

thought, when there's so much I want to tell her. And can't.

"Mother? Are you there?" Doris Whitney stared out the window. "It's raining." And she thought, How melodramatically appropriate. Like an Alfred Hitchcock movie. "What's that noise?" Tracy asked. Thunder. Too deeply wrapped in her thoughts, Doris had not been aware of it. New Orleans was having a storm. Continued rain, the weatherman had said. Sixty-six degrees in New Orleans. By evening the rain will be turning to thundershowers. Be sure to carry your umbrellas. She would not need an umbrella. "That's thunder, Tracy." She forced

But it’s a different world now. Markets and workforces are increasingly global and diverse. Change is so rapid that one leader can’t hope to keep abreast of all developments, much less be responsible for the innovation needed to keep ahead of them. Decision making is broadly distributed across an organization, and collaboration is required with numerous parties outside it. So it’s worth reexamining our image of the ideal business leader and how and where a person will acquire the attributes needed to become one. We may find that it’s through...

...early on. One of the biggest obstacles to overcome is procrastination. Procrastination is the problem of putting things off. We all seem to procrastinate on certain levels by making up excuses not to do something. The bad thing is that procrastination can be displayed in an every day lifestyle, which can effect us in achieving our goals. Procrastination can be the reason behind our failures Proverbs 10: 4 - 5 “Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth. He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.” This verse contrasts being lazy with hard work. We need to live our lives for God by not being lazy but by working hard to serve Him. An unproductive lifestyle comes from procrastination Procrastination can lead to a bad lifestyle. It can result in getting bad grades, not showing your best work, and being unproductive. It is important to avoid making excuses and as you head towards your goal, you should pray that God gives you the persistence to achieve it without getting lazy. Underlying problems can be revealed by procrastination If we continue putting things off it can mean we lack discipline, are poor time managers and sometimes are disobedient to God. Joshua 18:3 “So Joshua said to the Israelites: "How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you? “ People get discouraged because the task seems difficult, large...

Humanistic Theories

...Humanistic and Existential Personality Theories Paper Humanistic and Existential Personality Theories Paper Abraham Maslow introduced the holistic-dynamic theory, which suggests that a person’s actions are constantly being motivated directly by one need, or another (Feist, 2013). The holistic-dynamic theory also suggests that a person has the potential to grow towards what Maslow deemed self-actualization, or reaching full potential. In order to achieve this goal of self-actualization, you must first satisfy all of the other needs on a pyramid that Maslow created (Feist, 2013). The hierarchy of needs starts at the bottom with physiological needs, like hunger and sleep. In order for one to move to the next tier of the pyramid, they must obtain relative satisfaction in this level. If someone is constantly hungry, maybe because they are homeless, they will never move past the motivation for their next meal. The second tier is safety, third is love and belongingness, fourth is esteem, and the final tier is self-actualization (Feist, 2013). In the case of personality development, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs gives each individual something to strive towards. In the end, the goal is to be self-actualized; the best person you can possibly be. The hierarchy affects interpersonal relationships, as well, in that each level deals with how you deal with another person, or community. To achieve safety, you must be in a place you feel safe, with people that you are safe around...

Adverb

...speech (or word class) that is primarily used to modify averb, adjective, or other adverb. Adverbs can also modifyprepositional phrases, subordinate clauses, and completesentences. Adjective: adverbial. An adverb that modifies an adjective ("quite sad") or another adverb ("very carelessly") appears immediately in front of the word it modifies. An adverb that modifies a verb is generally more flexible: it may appear before or after the verb it modifies ("softly sang" or "sang softly"), or it may appear at the beginning of the sentence ("Softly she sang to the baby"). The position of the adverb may have an effect on the meaning of the sentence. Functions of an Adverb: Adverbs typically add information about time (rarely, frequently, tomorrow), manner (slowly, quickly, willingly), or place (here, there, everywhere) in addition to a wide range of other meanings. Forms of an Adverb: Many adverbs--especially adverbs of manner--are formed from adjectives by the addition of the ending-ly (easily, dependably). But many common adverbs (just, still, almost, not) do not end in -ly, and not all words that end in -ly (friendly, neighborly) are adverbs. See "Observations,"...

Medical Care for an Aging Population

...When Tomorrow Start Without Me When tomorrow starts without me, And I’m not there to see; If the sun should rise and find your eyes, All filled with tears for me; I wish so much you wouldn’t cry the way you did today While thinking of the many things, We didn’t get to say. I know how much you love me, As much as I love you, And each time that you think of me, I know you will miss me too; But when tomorrow starts without me, Please try and understand, That an angel came and called my name, And took me by the hand, And said my place was ready, In Heaven, far above, And that I’d have to leave behind, All those I dearly love. But as I turned to walk away, A tear fell from my eye, For all my life, I’d always thought, I didn’t want to die. I had so much to live for, So much yet to do, It seemed almost impossible, That I was leaving you. I thought of all the yesterdays, The good ones and the bad, I thought of all the love we shared, And all the fun we had. If I could relive yesterday, Just even for awhile, I’d say good bye and kiss you And maybe see you smile. But then I fully realized, That this could never be, For emptiness and memories, Would take the place of me. And then I thought of worldly things, I might miss come tomorrow, I thought of you, And when I did, My heart was filled with sorrow. But when I walked through Heaven’s gates, I felt so much at home. When God looked down and smiled at me, From His great...

Can the Youth Make a Difference?

...that the youth of today is the driving force of tomorrow, Rizal even quoted that “The Youth is the hope of our future, but most of the adults nowadays call them the “lost generation”. Are today’s youth really a lost generation? Let’s face it, they may give them that label because it is true that young people are struggling in record numbers to find work, leave home, and start a family, according to a 2010 census figures recently released by the US Department of commerce United States Census Bureau. Today, I’d like to discuss the nature of the youth nowadays, the role of government in honing the youth of today, and if the youth can really make a difference. Today’s youth is a different generation to any of the youth generations that have gone before. Yes, there has always been a youth market, but the 21st century differs in both a neurological and emotional manner from previous youngsters. The radical shift has occurred most rapidly over the past decade, as technology continues to advance at an exceptional pace. These children live and exist in a digital dominion which they find as natural as the air they breathe. Well, it is true that young people are a crucial segment of our society; they are the basis for future development. Young people are social actors of change and can serve as a pressure group to lobby governments in defining their priorities. It has been clearly stressed that youth are not only the leaders of tomorrow, but the partners of today. Youth have some responsibilities...

Tehe!

...There's No Tomorrow As you open the door into Dance Like There's No Tomorrow, you will immediately see a cheerful, sprightly woman sitting at a maple oak desk full of neat, organized papers. Right in front of her, a bright green apple laptop sits, glowing. What hits you second is the lemony smell of air freshener, to mask the smell of the oak floor. She invites you to sign up with a shiny clipboard and yellow pencils. After you finish the tedious registration, you get to enter the studio! Your hand grabs the cold, slippery doorknob on the soundproof door and turns the knob. You get hit by a breeze of cold, fresh air coming from a grey fan hung in the back corner of the studio. Loud pop music from a stereo in the front of the room blasts out, and vibrates your eardrums. You find yourself enclosed by four walls of crystal, clear mirrors on every side of you and it mimics every move. Long, polished wooden bars wraps around two sides of the walls. A portable blue jug of ice water sits in the front of the room, covered with little beads of water. In the very back of the studio, there is a hidden door which blends into the walls because it also has mirrors on it. It contains apparel for dance, sweatpants, T-shirts, camis, dance shoes, and sweatshirts with Dance Like There's No Tomorrow on the very front of them. The shiny, glittering world of Dance is intriguing and popular for all ages. If you need to release your stress, want to have fun, or Dancing is just your dream, come to Dance...

Mañana Habit

...Mañana Habit - "Mamaya na lang" The Mañana Habit is something that we have learned from the Spaniards. The word "Mañana" means ‘tomorrow’ or ‘specified future time’ also known as “procrastination” in plain English, “mamaya na” in Filipino. How it Works: 1. You need to do something now.  2. But then you decide to do it later. 3. As a result of the delay, you end up not doing it. 4. Now, you tell yourself or somebody that you will do it tomorrow. 5. Tomorrow comes. The same cycle happens. A habit is a pattern of behavior that is acquired through frequent repetition. No amount of planning or preparation can change this. The only way to change a habit is to replace it with another habit. My father taught me these words when I was still young:  "Do it now"…"Don’t wait till tomorrow".  At that time, I didn’t see the value of that advice. It was too pushy or overbearing to hear. But then, later on I realized that it was a valuable habit that he was teaching me. Three Important Words to Remember – Do. It. Now. (1) Do.  Only action can beat procrastination. Drag your feet if you have to. Starting is the only challenging part. Jump start your way into it. (2) It.  Face whatever needs to be done. Don’t do anything else. There’s always an excuse that you can say. But don’t give in. (3) Now.  Not later or in the future. Don’t wait for the perfect time. Even if you don’t feel like doing it. You will appreciate what you did when you reap the...
