Interpersonal Communication Essay

It was a sunny, warm Friday afternoon during the end of a normal day of Basic combat training. Farren, Jerald, Richard, and I had just got done having a wonderful dinner at the Chow hall A.K.A Cafeteria. As we sat around the den and conversed with each other, several of the other Battle buddies started to arrive because they had a duty to go to and wanted to leave together from the same area. Farren and I had never met these young men before so they introduced themselves to us one at a time. For the most part, they seemed nice and I got along with them very well. However, Farren’s interaction with one of them took a turn for the worst. It seemed apparent that Woodrow introduced himself to Farren because all his other friends had done so. After all, it only seemed right for him to fulfill those social expectations, especially since he’s the platoon leader and he didn’t want to look bad in front of all the other soldiers. At first, it appeared that they were building a healthy relationship with good communication as a foundation. I observed how much enjoyment both of them were getting from exchanging information about each other. Woodrow told her things such as the university he attended back home, his major, extracurricular activities, and what type of job he had. Farren revealed to him her daytime activities, goals, dreams, and the type of music she listened to. The apparent purpose for the interaction flourished into two individuals getting to know each other interpersonally in an effective The interaction between the two individuals started off very well. The elements of communication were handled in a proper manner during the infant stages of the conversation.
