My Philosophy of Education

My philosophy of education is a far cry from the ideas my parents or teachers have been trying to convey into my wide open conscientiousness throughout my short but - in spite of what my parents or some teachers think - quite apprehensive and sensitive life. It is really annoying to hear all the time the same phrases regarding education as something one has to do, is expected to do or, in some cases, is forced to do...this way or the the other, it has always sounded to me more as my parents or my teachers philosophy of education and not mine. How many times have we heard such things as: if don't study you are going to be nobody or look at him, he didn't go to school and now he is just a small potato...to tell you the truth, nothing has disouraged me more then such " glorification of education ". Does it mean if I don't get well educated my value as a human being will decrease? I wonder who sets the standards? Does anyone remember what Margaret Mead once said: " Children must be taught how to think, not what to think ".
As far as I can remember, the whole idea of education for me was surrounded with such words as: term papers, achievements, motivation, activities, tests, grade point average, best effort, etc, etc...my God and there was this little, poor student trying to lie, cheat, pretend or whatever alse it takes to get by all those educational " key words " - what a chalenge. I guess anyone who can get through all of these without any serious mental damages may consider himself already as a well educated person. Furthermore, passing a course doesn't necessarily mean that someone knows what that course was all about. In many cases, it was just a requirement made mainly to annoy students and keep the teachers away from watching TV or doing something useful.
