...2014/2015 CIPD Certificate in Human Resources Practice Unit 3 – 3RAI Recording, Analysing and Using HR Information Diane Kubok Organisations need to collect data as a point of reference to be able to retrieve information whenever it is needed. There is also need for data as a legal requirement. Two examples of data collected:- Attendance – recording staff absences is essential to an organisation to identify true absences i.e. illness against identifying those who may choose to take time off for other reasons, i.e. dissatisfaction with role, dissatisfaction with management, lack of motivation and accountability. Many organisations use the Bradford Score to calculate frequent short term absences in order to monitor cost and reasoning behind each absence and identify those who may benefit from Occupational Health support. Medical Tests – many organisations may have a requirement for medical tests to be performed for compliance with health and safety, i.e. skin tests, eye site, and general fitness, for the roles including lifting and carrying, along with white finger tests for those using vibrations tools. Methods for storing record and the benefits:- Computerised HR information systems: Advantages – large data base capable of holding a large amount of information that can be separated by sections for easy analysis and retrieval. Information can easily be retrieved and reviewed in entirety or by section. Disadvantages are limited to protection of information...

Jobs Everyday Case Study

...JOBS EVERYDAY – THE RECRUITMENT EXPERTS THE CASE NARRATIVE It is Monday morning (March 5th 2012) – a beautiful sunny day in Bangalore. Sangeetha Kriplani stares at the meeting minutes from last Friday’s meeting, and sighs with anxiety. All senior staff from Jobs Everyday (JE) was gathered to be addressed by the CEO Praveen Joshi who was quite upset after the annual service review. “How come we are the last to know about some openings”, “Why is it that we take too much time to process the applications”, “No wonder the better candidates don’t wait to hear back from us!”, “I want to see different ... oh yes MUCH different results by the next review – Let’s hope we still exist by then!!!” etc. were some words that have been echoing in Sangeetha’s mind throughout the whole weekend. Sangeetha is the new Manager of the Business Analysis and Improvement team at Jobs Everyday, and has 6 Business Analysts (BA) working under her, all who have been at Jobs Everyday for years. She has been there for only 3 weeks and has felt that the other Business Analysts often show a cold shoulder to her... Sangeetha is passionate about processes, but has difficulty to get her Business Analysts colleagues to see the value of ‘process’ thinking. After one of her debriefs last Monday - she overheard at the lunch room one BA saying to the other “What is it with ‘Process-Sangeetha ?! ’... Just half an hour from now, Sangeetha has a second meeting with the senior management at Jobs Everyday, and...

Social Media and Recruitment

...brightest talent it is apparent that the use of social media in recruitment is becoming increasingly common (Levinson, 2010). However, despite the use of social media by organisations today, little is known about the influence of this choice of media on applicant attraction (Davison, Marasit & Bing, 2011). The current study addressed this gap in literature by assessing the impact of social media use via every several facet facets of the recruitment communications process, including those associated with the message receiver, the message sender and media related factors. The impact of social media on organisational attraction was assessed using two distinct methods. In Study 1, an explicit measure of attraction found that individual attitudes and use of social media were associated with attraction to organisations that recruit via this medium. Conversely, utilising ‘mock-up’ recruitment advertisements and an implicit measure of attraction in Study 2, these individual factors were not significant. While overall this study did not record a significant difference in attraction when recruiting on social media when compared to a generic website, it confirmed the importance of a number of factors previously associated with attraction and established a relationship between social media and several of these attributes. It is argued that the use of social media may be most influential in the later stages of recruitment, with it important that applicant privacy concerns and perceptions...
