Internal Hardware upgrade to meet IT solution

IFSM 310 SECTION
Winston Compton
16 April 2016

Background As a Senior IT Specialist & Systems Analyst, some of my responsibilities are to interpret customer demands through provided business requirements and provide service needed with the right specifications. Also Develop design specifications for major components of an IT solution. Finally, as a senior member I need to be able to coordinate with other entities to provide individual components of IT developmental efforts. As a senior member of Upton, Martin Ulysses, & Clapper (UMUC) financial analysis firm specializing in conducting independent economics and market assessment for banks, insurance companies, mortgage lender, and government regulatory agencies, I have been tasked to refreshed 35 personal computer desktops. The Senior Manager of Revolving Debt Analysis has laid out for me the attributes for the new PCs. The new PCs will need to be able to run complex calculations based on statistical models that uses large amounts of data.

Purpose of This Report The UMUC financial analysis firm is a medium sized firm utilized by many clients for market assessments, insurance queries, mortgage lenders, and other government regulatory agencies. In order to meet demands the firm is in dire need of an upgrade. The purpose of this report will identify the new components required to upgrade the 35 desktops to be able to perform the required IT solution attribute and meet customer demands.
Evaluation Methodology I first had to determine the attributes by looking at the table requirement provided. Then I had to understand the purpose of the attributes and how they will allow the daily activity of the firm. Once I understood this, I started doing research on the software and the requirements of the software. By knowing the requirement of the software I was able to move on to my next step identifying the components. I researched each component and their specifications through newegg.com. I made sure to read the capabilities of each component and read the reviews of the component. This was the meticulous part of this method, as you had to choose a component that will be able to run the software’s being demanded by the firm to perform the daily activities. Once I had identified my components I wanted to upgrade, I had to figure out a way in which these components related to the demands and how they will enable the software’s. I started thinking basic information, remembering the reading from chapter 3, 8 and referred back to the modules for the proper internal components of a system unit. Therefore, I chose 7 components to present that were needed to properly meet the Senior Managements request.
Report Summary In order to meet all the attributes we would need to upgrade 7 components of all 35 personal computers (PC). These components are the motherboard, RAM memory, internal hard drive, Video card, sound card, and display monitor. This upgrade will allow for a smooth and fast operation of all daily activity the firm will be performing. The motherboard will be GIGABYTE GA-X99-UD4P; this component will allow the other components to be upgraded to be able to run the demanded software. This is a package deal; it comes with a Intel Core i7 processor to process computations and data. The G.SKILLS Ripjaws, will provide 16GB of RAM memory, which will allow for smooth computation and help with lag issues. Mushkin Hard drive will allow for 1TB of data to be stored for each PC, which should meet the storage need to store all documents. The Saphire Radeon R9 video card will alleviate 8GB from the RAM memory and allow for smooth processing of videos and multi programs to be run all at once. The sound card, monitor and optical drive will allow a system unit to manage high quality audio, display clear pictures and videos and read and write to load software to a PC. All components are compatible and will cost $1000 dollars each PC to upgrade. Since a budget was not given these components chosen to provide high-end performance for the next 10 years.

WHITE PAPERSUCCESSFACTORS / WHITE PAPER HOW CHROS DELIVER BUSINESS IMPACT Achieving CIO Goals in the Cloud Introduction CIO’s jobs are changing. These days it’s not only about running IT efficiently, but also about supporting core business strategies and helping create strategic advantage by reducing cost and driving innovation. This means CIOs are under pressure to build infrastructure that can move and adapt at the same rapid pace as the rest of the business. They need to support geographical expansion, mergers, and product or service innovation while at the same time reducing costs. In other words, CIOs are being asked to do more for the business with fewer resources. Every year, the same cycle repeats: reduce total cost, move the cost structure from fixed to variable cost, and free up resources for innovation by reducing operating expenditures. Initially, companies adopted outsourcing and Cloud solutions primarily to reduce costs and preserve resources for strategic initiatives. More recently, however, Cloud applications have been used to support the strategic agility today’s businesses need. In addition, having one single code-base across all their customers allows modern Cloud application vendors to very quickly leverage innovations and distribute product improvements...

E-mail: cc1604@nova.edu Background Enterprise Resource Planning integrates internal and external management information across an entire organization, embracing finance/accounting, manufacturing, sales and service, customer relationship management, etc. ERP systems automate this activity with an integrated software application (Hossein, 2004). The ERP is “Web enabled”, meaning that they work using Web clients, making them accessible to all of the organization’s employees, clients, partners, and vendors from anytime and anyplace, thereby promoting the BU’s effectiveness (Motiwalla & Thompson, 2012). The fundamental advantage of ERP is that integrating the myriad processes by which businesses operate saves time and expense. Decisions can be made more quickly and with fewer errors. Data becomes visible across the organization (Vikki, 2010). The disadvantages comes from the tight budget organizations allocate to personnel training thus resulting inadequate use of ERP systems and poor testing and implementing of changes. The experience and skill of the personnel has a major influence on the efficiency of the ERP systems. (Mutt, Nick. N.d). There are several organizations that choose ERP as an option. They have to go through several stages to reach the successful and final stage, which will be finalizing the process of the implementation including stress testing and...

Breitner2 1Accenture GmbH Campus Kronberg 1, 61476 Kronberg ina.friedrich@accenture.com 2Institut 1 für Wirtschaftsinformatik, Leibniz-Universität Hannover Königsworther Platz 1, 30167 Hannover {sprenger|breitner @iwi.uni-hannover.de} Introduction Customer Relationship Management (CRM)1 has been discussed in the literature since the nineties. IT evaluation on the other hand dates back to the eighties starting with a more contemporary approach (Farbey et al. 1999, p. 191). As reported by earlier works, the success rate of CRM implementation projects is up to today still not satisfactory (Becker et al. 2009; Finnegan and Currie 2009). Reasons for failing the expectations of involved parties are diverse, but can be summarized under the three dimensions: people, process and technology (Figure 1). Due to the described quality problems and the speed of evaluation results becoming outdated, new CRM solutions or updated versions of established products continuously enter the market. CRM solutions range from simple address and activity management applications to integrated software packages linking front office and back office functions (Chen and Popovich 2003, p. 673). Hence, there exists a multitude of different characterizations for CRM. For the context of this paper a definition by Goldenberg (2000) is used, who describes CRM as a cross-functional...

...fashion and was able to keep records up to date. Good Health Medical Services has grown over the years from seeing an average of twenty patients a week to over two hundred patients a week. The staff has also grown and now has over ten specialty physicians that range from Pediatrics to Oncology. The record keeping staff has grown as well going from one person to three people. There have been several cases of misfiled information or lost or missing files and the directors want to lessen some of these factors, save money and move into the current technology world of Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Purpose/ Business Need: The directors feel that there are several benefits to be had by moving from paper files to electronic files. The benefits of EMR are less paper files, savings on paper, less maintenance to the files and manpower being put into looking for the files. Plus, many times a patient can be seen by more than one physician at the facility. If the file is electronic that can assist the physician in updating files. With today’s technology the physicians can update files from cellular phone or other mobile device. There is less time spent on manually...

Finally this paper is wrapped up with a look at how TQM development methods should be introduced and the different ways in which is benefits both the employee and customer. Keywords: tqm, total quality management, software total quality management, tqm software methodologies Total Quality Management in the Software World According to Dale, Dewhurst, and Martínez-Lorente (1998), Total quality management is now being applied by a considerable number of companies and the topic itself is now a popular subject of many books and papers. While total quality management began to be used in the mid 1980’s (Dale et. al., 1998) it wasn’t until the late 1980’s it became a part of quality related language and even later still until it was put to use in the world of software and I.T. (information technology). This paper will examine the following total quality management topics: 1. What is the background and history of total quality management? 2. What value does TQM add to software quality? 3. What,...

Patient Flow Metrics

...Patient Flow Metrics Paper Southern New Hampshire University HCM - 500 INTRODUCTION Emergency Rooms and the waiting rooms associated to these emergency rooms are subject to many conversations of inefficiency. Dealing with these inefficiencies are two massive challenges that are facing the healthcare industry today. The wait times and dissatisfactions associated with going to a emergency room, definitely need to be curbed and addressed. Even when the system has patient flow that is simplified with pre determined appointments, and served by a single doctor there are various factors that are related to inefficiency. This flow does get a lot more complication with walk ins 24 hours a day in an emergency room setting. There are also no single doctor that serve the patient and there are no pre determined processing times. Doctors generally are rotated, while at work are constantly interrupted due to the nature of the emergency, and related to to other medical consultation. EHR (Electronic Health Records) are being installed and implemented in a number of hospitals and healthcare units, to achieve the goal of improving the quality and decreasing the costs.National benchmarking for quality in the ED setting places significant focus on timeliness, safety and efficiency standards, most directly reported as overall length of stay (LOS), door to doctor times and left without being seen, using them as proxies for quality measures that are difficult to collect, such as time to analgesia...

...success factors in ERP system implementation K. Curko1, D. Stepanic2, M. Varga3 Abstract— In order to successfully implement an ERP system it is necessary to properly balance critical success factors. By researching what the critical success factors in ERP implementation are, why they are critical, and to what extent they are relevant to users, consultants and suppliers, this paper seeks to identify critical success factors in ERP implementation and to understand the impact of each factor on the success of ERP system introduction. This paper lists ten critical success factors (CSF) providing two points of view: strategic and tactical. These are: top management support, a business plan and vision, top management support, change management program, project management, implementation strategies, project team, business process modeling and minimal customizations, monitoring and performance evaluation, software development, testing and troubleshooting, legacy systems. Keywords— ERP implementation, critical success factors, IT project, management I. INTRODUCTION Complex IT projects, such as developing and especially implementing ERP systems often fail. Many studies indicate a small success rate in terms of exceeding the time limit, budget and poor functionality of the new system. Successful ERP projects bring great benefits to the company, but can also be devastating to organizations that fail to deliver. The aim of this paper is to further investigate the...

Implementing the Balanced Scorecard in Greece: a Software Firm's Experience

... long range planning www.lrpjournal.com Implementing the Balanced Scorecard in Greece: a Software 5 Firm’s Experience Alexandros Papalexandris, George Ioannou à and Gregory P. Prastacos The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is a relatively new approach to strategic management and performance measurement and control, which has generated substantial interest in the academic and industrial communities. This paper presents the experience from the implementation of a specific BSC model at a large software development company in Greece. The study illustrates and evaluates the main obstacles and shortcomings, as well as the critical success factors that characterise such BSC projects, while offering managerial insights and guidelines for similar implementations. Q 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. Introduction The shortcomings of traditional management control and performance measurement motivated the development of the Balanced Scorecard (BSC), a management system incorporating all quantitative and abstract measures of true importance to an enterprise.1 The two key elements of the BSC are: (a) Clustering of similar types of measures into groups (perspectives); (b) Limiting the measures and linking their values to improve clarity, allow for transparent communication throughout the organisation, and effectively manage change. 5 An earlier and compact version of this paper was presented at the IEEE International Engineering Management Conference, St John’s College, Cambridge...
