Ben Jerry

...BEN & JERRY’S HOMEMADE ICE CREAMS ANALYSIS OF CASE What was Ben supposed to do? Why was he unable to do so? Ben was supposed to look at the BIG PICTURE. He wanted to benefit the lower class of employees. He used pay ratio 5:1 as a mean to do so and set the pay scales of senior employees below the industry average. He should have given senior executives some reasons to stay with the company by giving them salary packages close to the industry average, by financing their training/education/on-job-MBA, or by bringing an end to the 5 to 1 rule. He should have prevented the buyout of the company by satisfying all of his internal customers and preventing the profit reduction due to employee turnover at the senior level. He failed to do so because he was unable to realize that the growth of company is necessary for him to continue his philanthropy and support to the oppressed lower class in the US. He found it difficult to alter his values and to endanger his social image. What challenges do the managers face working with the CEO/owner of a company? The main problem faced by the managers working with the CEO/owner is that the owner sometimes dictates his vision and does not motivate the managers to embrace the vision through constant persuasion. He or She develops a vision by some personal experiences of creativity and inspiration and then enforces that vision from top to down. Sometimes, the CEO/owner does not allow the managers to improve, augment, or further......

...and sinking. However, a high number of bulkheads may restrict the use of spaces on board and make it hard for the crew to move between the divided spaces. So, watertight doors are fitted in between bulkheads which should be watertight. Doors can usually be closed from the bridge, or other control room, for the purpose of saving the ship, and can also be opened and closed locally, allowing personnel to pass through, as well as to escape in an emergency. Saving the ship has priority, so usually the bridge can take control of all doors to close them. There are many different regulations pertaining to the operation of these doors depending on the class, and type, of ship it is. However, there is no all encompassing safety regulation to prevent injury or death due to accidental door closure. The Canada Shipping act has some regulations pertaining to...

...Kathryn Constantino Mr. Contreras Eng. 9HP/P.6 19 November 2015 “The Undercover Parent” Essay Harlan Coben in the article “The Undercover Parent” (2008) suggests that parents should monitor their children closely online. Coben supports his suggestion by listing the many dangers on the internet. Coben suggests that parents should install spyware on their child’s internet in order to keep them safe. The author writes in an informal tone for parents. Indeed, parents should monitor children closely online by using spyware because they can see if their child is in danger and they can help prevent their child getting in danger. Parents should monitor their children online because they can see if their child is in any kind of danger. For example, Coben states in his article “The Undercover Parent”, “One friend of mine, using spyware to monitor his college bound, straight-A daughter, found out that not only was she using drugs but she was sleeping with her dealer…. He decided to come clean, to let her know how he had found out, to speak with her about the dangers inherent in her behavior” (Coben, Paragraph 13). The example shows how a father used spyware to find out if his daughter was in danger, which she was in, the father then had a conversation with his daughter to tell her that the things she was doing online was very dangerous. The father prevented his daughter from getting into even more danger on the internet by using spyware. Since the father talked to his daughter,......

...Risk 1 Time Time is a risk for this project on several levels. 173 employees this will be affected as well as their customers. The company has agreed that this is a good move, however, if the process of setting up the equipment, managing the security and providing training goes on too long, then it will start to negatively affect the company over-all. Currently there is concern if the technology will be delivered due to an unforeseen fire, this set back will be costly in time and work. Also, a second part of time being a risk is managing faulty or dying equipment. Home offices will take longer to assess and fix in the long run. IT staff will either have travel to employee’s homes, or employees will be held up having to come into the home office for repairs. The impact is serious due to the fact it would reduce the amount of work completed, uses valuable resources that are required on-site, or lead to cost of hiring a separate support staff for the telecommuters. Initial action is to move quickly in the areas that can be moved on quickly. Also, there are several team members who are done their parts, and several who are working on their parts alone. It is recommended that people be placed where there is a personnel shortage. This risk can also be prevented by managing the completion status of each item via milestone dates. The team member responsible is everyone on the project, with the PM as the lead. Strategies for preventing this risk is for......

Prevent Group Think

...Various Ways to Prevent Group-think * Foster open climate for discussion ① Seating Arrangement Seating arrangement is important in creating an open atmosphere for discussion. Most organizations are hierarchical so that it is usually hard for subordinates to express their ideas directly to their heads. If members of an organization seat in orderly manner by their positions, there should be an invisible wall, which prevents from expressing their ideas. Thus, the climate is rather formal. All people would become careful on what they are saying. As a solution, a round table would be appropriate for making an open climate. It will also help reduce the distance between the heads and subordinates. ② So-called ‘Dosirak Meeting’ It means that members of a group freely speak with each other while they are having launch. In this situation, the talk will begin with small talk. Naturally, the less formal climate will lead to a brisk discussion. ③ Small group meeting A group is further divided into smaller groups. In a small group meeting, people might feel less pressure. People might freely talk in a smaller group. However, one thing should be kept that members should be rotated regularly because the same smaller groups will also lead to group-think. ④ Using Intranet, SNS(Social Networking Service) By using an intranet, members can freely share their opinions on a bulletin board. Sometimes anonymity is allowed if needed. I think it may accelerate more......

Prevent Underage Drinking

...Prevent Underage Drinking 2/1/2012 General Orientation Dr. Graham 2/1/2012 Prevent Underage Drinking You go into a bar and ask for an alcoholic beverage, usually they ask if your 21, but this time you are handed your beverage and not asked for your ID. This is pretty much what goes on at college campuses. Underage drinking without much or any regulation has corresponded to many deaths and serious injuries to underage students. Teaching underage members of society how to drink in moderation, making stricter consequences for the drinkers who are underage and stricter consequences for the supplier should prevent underage drinking. Teaching underage members of society how to drink in moderation would be difficult but it would make underage drinking injuries disappear. In Europe, many of the people there are taught when they are very young how to drink in moderation by giving the kids alcohol moderately throughout the years they are growing up at home. This has caused the accidents and injuries in Europe to go down significantly. Though the drinking age in Europe is lower than America, they have a higher driving age, making it a whole lot harder to get into accidents. With Europe’s process of drinking laws it would make it so much easier to have as many deaths that involve underage drinking. “Alcohol statistics in Europe say that teens coming from homes that had no alcohol and were not taught how to drink responsibly had more issues with alcohol.” This shows the same......

Ways to Prevent Divorce

...other, on sacrifice, and on self-restraint. We place more value on individualism, on self-expression and self-realization, and on personal choice" (Galston 4). These changes occurred because people's principles have changed. We are more accepting of divorce today than we were years ago. Gray believes that many marriages in trouble can be saved and a successful marriage all depends on the husband and wife working together. He also says that sometimes love is easy and other times it needs effort. We shouldn't expect to always be loving and we need to be understanding when we don't know how to be loving (285-286). Couples need to be provided with the tools they need to keep their relationship strong. I think there are three ways we can prevent or lessen our chances of divorce. The first step occurs before marriage, the second during marriage, and the third at the beginning of divorce. Statistics and Facts It's pretty obvious that the divorce rate is very high and continuing to grow. According to "The Divorce Center", "In 1998 2.2 million couples were married and 1.1 million couples divorced. In 2000, 58 million couples were married yet separated". It's also proven in this research that 60% of all divorces happen to people between the ages of 25...
