Rape is an ongoing thing in many communities. After carefully looking at different articles this only one stayed in my head. 11-Year-Old Mexican Rape Victim Wants to Keep Baby, this was the heading in a newspaper. As I have read many victims that’s being rape are all ages and of different races. What is rape one might ask? Rape is when someone forces sex on someone else, unwanted sex. This type of crime happens to many people with children being at the topic of the list. According to the article, an 11-year-old girl in Mexico allegedly raped by her stepfather and now more than four months pregnant says she wants to have his baby despite pressure from women’s groups who want her to have an abortion, pro-life activists in the country say. They say attorneys for abortion-rights activists have shown up at the girl's home with plane tickets in hand in an attempt to whisk her away to get an abortion, but the child has said adamantly, “This is my baby. I’m having my baby. I will call my girl Alejandra.” Many rape victims are aware of the person that raped them, because a lot of the time it’s someone close to the family. In this case the girl was left alone in her step father presents too much and he took advantage of the situation and raped her, which was the lowest thing this scum bag could have ever done. In these cases the girl mom has no idea that her daughter is pregnant according to the article, the mother had a nervous breakdown and demanded her daughter tell her what happened, Mancera said. Finally, the girl said her stepfather had raped her. The mother flew into a fit of rage and went directly to the police to the report the rape, and the stepfather was arrested. He remains in jail, and jail is where he should stay; for a long period of time. The girl has been temporarily placed in a child services housing facility where counselors met with the girl and her mother to discuss their options,

There are ways to prevent rape, however when it’s someone in the family the ways are limited, because who thinks their immediate family would harm them are their children. While you never know if you will be a rape victim, there are ways to protect yourself against being attacked. Do not be distracted, especially by technology. Learn to trust your gut instincts. It could save you from being raped or worse. If you feel uneasy or unsure in anyway, it is in your best interest to get away and get help. Use common sense. Be aware of your surroundings at all time, Understand that your hairstyle could benefit an attacker. Ponytails are the number one style that rapists look for because they are easy to grab and you can be held with them.es. Parking lots and parking garages are two of the sites that are most often targeted by attempted rapists. Carry defensive items only if you know how to use them. Anything that could hurt Yell, shout and draw attention to you. Attackers usually have an idea of how the attack will happen. Disrupt that idea. Fight like heck and yell loudly and strongly. Rape has ruined many lives and at some point took lives.

Rape and Myths

...‘’Rape’’ a social problem that continues to occur daily and is seldom reported, the rape of a women and children is a violent and alarmingly common crime, often committed by men the victims know and trust A rapist can come from any race, social class or environment. For many years South Africa has been considered the rape capital of the world, some analysis’s tend to blame this scourge on our countries history of apartheid and violence. Over the years the precise definition of rape has varied and thus there is no single agreed definition of rape. In 2012, the FBI changed their definition from "The carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will." to "The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object or by oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim." The new South African law around rape came into effect in December 2007. This law is called the Sexual Offences and Related Matters Amendment Act, No. 32 of 2007 and considers that males too can be victims of rape. Rape is an act of Sexual Penetration of a victim, without their consent. Rape occurs when * Someone inserts their genital organs into the mouth, anus or genital organs of a victim * Any part of someone’s body, such as a finger, goes into the anus or genital organs of the victim * Any object, like a stick or a bottle is put into the anus or genital organs of the victim * The genital organs of an animal are put...

...my opinion is Rape. I feel rape is media biggest controversy. I’m from India and people still today in this day and age feel that women invite rape which has caused a big issue in India. Not too long ago in 2012 a 21 year of medical student was raped why only because she was roaming around at 8:30 pm at night. This rape case had caused the biggest controversy in the history of media news in India. Because everyone all over India was doing a candle stand for the victim. There were five guys that had raped the girl. She was going home with her guy friend at 8:30 after watching a movie they were not able to find a taxi so decided to go on a bus. They injured the guy so much and threw him out the bus and all the five guys raped and injured every part of her bone and insides so bad that within 23 hour she had gone through five surgeries. Recently one of the journalist interviewed the victims and they said the girl provoked them to rape her she is a girl she is not supposed to roam around at night time and shouldn’t be wearing short clothes. It’s actually very sad to see how people still think so down about women. Even though that women power the world now they are smarter than men and they are willing to do anything nowadays. They care of a child alone and raise them right. Young girls continue to be victims of incestuous assault in their homes; if a woman walks alone at night, she walks in endless fear; our judicial system continues to put a victim of rape through a humiliating...

A Mattress to Represent the Masses

...Abhorring rape is central to many feminist ideals. This aggressive and violent action is perhaps one of the most vivid representations of male dominance over females. Rape is an act of aggression, a classified war crime, and an assertion of men’s dominance and power. Emma Sulkowicz, a Columbia University student, was raped by a peer and is now calling her school and community to awareness and action by carrying around the scene of the crime: a dorm mattress. Sulkowicz’s experience of rape, while not connected with an official or militarized war like that of the United States-Mexico border, is part of a larger call to arms by transnational feminists and human rights activists around the world who wish to end the brutality and expansive damage rape causes its victims. Columbia University is burdened, although not as heavily as Emma Sulkowicz, by the constant physical reminder of the rape on campus. Sulkowicz has transformed her experience and recovery into a work of art for her senior thesis project and, under the stipulations, cannot ask for help but is able accept aid from fellow students or spectators if it is offered. This mattress has brought the university community together in support of a fellow student during her recovery from a traumatic experience along with the raised awareness of the violence and damage of rape. The school body is also bonded by the general distaste of the manner in which the administration handled, or refused to handle, the incident. According to...

...Date Rape "Date rape", often referred to as acquaintance rape, is an assault or attempted assault usually committed by a new acquaintance involving sexual intercourse without mutual consent. The term date rape is widely used but can be misleading because the person who commits the crime might not be dating the victim. Rather, it could be an acquaintance or stranger. Drugs used by Attackers: Drug-facilitated date rape is the use of drugs to assist the attacker in a rape. The drug can be any substance that is physical or mind altering. Drug facilitated sexual assault (DFSA), which is considered an umbrella term for crimes such as drug-facilitated date rape, differs from many rapes in that it is not typically a crime of physical violence but rather of sexual hedonism and entitlement. Though flunitrazepam (Rohypnol) is often cited as a date rape drug because of its high potency, strong effects and the ability to cause strong amnesia during its duration of action, investigations into its actual use as a date rape drug have contradicted popular belief. According to research conducted by Michael Robertson from the San Diego Medical Examiner's office and Dr. Mahmoud El Sohly of El Sohly Laboratories, test results indicated that flunitrazepam was only used in around 1% of reported date rapes according to Robertson and 0.33% according to urine lab tests done by El Sohly. In fact, the benzodiazepines midazolam and temazepam were the two most common benzodiazepines utilized for...

Rape

...Rape & Rape Trauma Syndrome Dictionaries most commonly define rape as a sexual act committed by force especially on a woman. (The American Heritage College Dictionary. 1997 pg. 740) Until a few years ago it was limited to penial penetration of the vagina. Penal Code 261 defines rape as an act of sexual intercourse accomplished with a person not the spouse of the perpetrator without the lawful consent.(Roberson, 1998, p. 188) Penal Code 263 goes on to say that the fundamental wrong at which the law of rape is aimed is . . . the violation of a woman's will and sexuality. (Roberson, 1998, p. 190) All other sexual assaults are classified under varied names, yet the aftermath is usually the same. Rape is one of the cruelest forms of criminal violence. The victim suffers a profound injury. Rendered powerless by physical force, threats, or fear, after which being forced to submit to sexual acts, including vaginal penetration, oral copulation, sodomy, and penetration opening with a foreign object, the victim is left virtually alone. Rape is an intrusion into the most private and intimate parts of the body, as well as an assault on the core of the self. Despite whether the victim suffers any physical trauma, the psychological impact of a sexual assault is severe. Moreover, the painful, post-trauma symptoms that result from rape are long-lasting. Even those victims who appear to have recovered months or years later often find that an overwhelming sense of powerlessness and vulnerability...

Sexual Objectification Of Women

...in the modern world, which creates social constructs for women. This determines the way people perceive them and the way they perceive themselves. Media today tends to judge women based on the way they dress or their physical appearance (Breger 39). Furthermore, mainstream media portrays women as sexual objects, or entities, specifically when they are required to bring sexual pleasure to their male counterparts through the way they look or act. Such media, therefore, is implying that women’s sole purpose is to bring men sexual gratification (Wright and Tokunaga 956). This increases the sexual objectification of women, specifically in magazines, television, and social media platforms, demonstrating...

Rape Culture

...Rape culture, hysteria, epidemic, or whatever the currently preferred terminology be, is a feminis t myth that refuses to extinguish itself. The effect of social awareness of rape and general sensitivity in our culture has shifted our society into an anti-male, anti-free speech, and anti-American entity. In modern day, alternately “third wave” feminism, members propose a concept of “a rape culture”, suggesting that sexual assault is celebrated and a cultural norm in this society. “Third wave feminism” doesn’t have an exact definition, but can be best described as modern day feminists that believe women are being oppressed in the western world by a patriarchy. These misandristic groups blame men for rape with little evidence to support their...

Rape Taboo

...stigma associated with sexual assault. It’s not uncommon for victims of sexual assault to be allocated a level of responsibility. Questions such as; “What were you wearing? Was it appropriate” “What did you say to them (the attacker)?” “How much had you had to drink?” can be asked in response to asexual assault report. We don’t apportion blame to victims of murder or robbery. Maybe an old world order exists where it is acceptable to blame a victim, creating a level of shame that somehow lessens the true reality of the crime. In a court of law, a prosecutor has the right to lay the victim’s past sexual history out on the table, like a couple of fun facts.  As such, by introducing evidence that the victim is, for example, sexually "promiscuous", this may cause the jury to believe the he/she was likely to have been consenting to the sexual encounter under examination in the trial as well. That is, the defense counsel falsely uses such "evidence" to construct consent where there otherwise was none. As a result, sexual assault victims have labeled the criminal trial process as akin to a "second rape", as their behaviour and sexual history, rather than the defendant's, is scrutinised throughout the trial. Why should it matter whether the victim was wearing jeans or a bikini, flirty or indifferent? Women aren’t “asking” to be raped by dressing and acting in provocative and promiscuous ways. Wearing a short skirt or a tight dress is not an invitation to touch. ·      This summer, I...

Summary: The Rape Of Nanking

Many soldiers went beyond rape to disembowel women, slice off their breasts, and nail them alive to walls. This event was so horrific that it is sometime referred to as the “forgotten Holocaust”. Beginning on December 13, 1937, Japan invaded China and the mass execution of soldiers and the slaughtering and raping of tens of thousands of civilians, whom peacefully surrendered, took place in contravention of all rules of warfare. This horrific event occurred due to the fact that for millenniums, the Japanese soldiers and civilians had a contempt feeling toward the Chinese and thought of them to be an inferior race of Asian people, much like the German policies against Jewish people in Europe. The Japanese soldiers...

Rape is a major problem that many of us Americans are facing today. (p.339) There are so many people today whose lives are changed forever because of being raped. We have to protect ourselves and loved ones from being one of those victims. There have been many ways to try and stop the victims from becoming victims, but it is still going on in today’s society. Some of the types of rape range from gang, serial, date, acquaintance, statutory, and marital. They differ in how, who, and when the victim is being raped. You Against Me Research Paper

...Rape is a traumatizing event in someone’s life that takes time and patience to get over. The victim may need a lot of help to cope with their rape. The books “Speak” by Laurie Halse Anderson and “You Against Me” by Jenny Downham are both examples of what occurs before and after a rape. They explain how someone would feel if it really did happen, and they explain the importance of providing an ear for the victim so they can cope with their situation. They are good examples because on shows it from the victim’s point of view and the other from a family member’s point of view, so you can get both people’s perspectives on the state that person is in. Rape and Baby Dumping

...Why does rape and sexual assault happen? There is a strong evidence that shows that an amount of men believe in their law that it is alright for a man to force their life partner to have sex, whether they want it or not. It is their belief to think that “forcing a person to have sex” is not wrong as they do not think that it is rape. There are some circumstances included when rape or sexual assault happens. First circumstance to rape is when they have had sex together before. They will have the urge to have sex again once they have done it once with the other companion. The other side would think that it is now okay to force them to have sex once they have done it before. Second circumstance is she has had sex with other person before. When this occurs, they will want revenge on the other life partner and thus it will lead to rape. Third is when she has let the other person touch them above their waist. By letting them touch above their waist, the men will be more attracted to the women and it will give them the thirst to touch it again. Thus, it will also lead to rape or sexual assault. Fourth is when she has let another person to touch her below the waist. He will also have the urge to feel below the waist again and it will make them want a new experience. It will then lead to rape or sexual assault. Lastly is when he has spent a lot of money on her. He will think that he owns the girl because of the things he has bought for her and he will take advantage and force her...
